With football, baseball, and basketball, you don't have to join a special league. You can just go to high school and college and make it from there.

So yes, it costs maybe $30 at Ross to literally play soccer in a field. But if someone seriously wants to play pro soccer in America they're going to lay thousands of dollars from age 7-8 through age 15-16

I agree with your sentiment, but it's a nuanced situation. Not everyone has great access to football development. However, access to football isn't exactly drawn across socioeconomic barriers. If you are a poor kid in Texas, you'll have access to outstanding football training and development. If you're a poor kid in Boston or NYC metro area...maybe not. And if you're a rich kid in those areas...still maybe not.

I agree that pay-to-play is a horrible model for kids. I'm not defending the people responsible for that model, but I'm sure it also permissively exists because of the top-down void of premier clubs. Major European clubs are making enormous money off their top tier teams. The model with youth soccer is to mine talent, not money. MLS isn't exactly overflowing with $$$ at the top. I'm sure creates a void at the lower levels, filled by fragmented coaches and clubs seeking to retrieve their financial pound of flesh out of a national dynamic that has more appetite for soccer in 6-12 year olds than it does for 20-30 year olds. TLDR: right now there's more money to be made in youth soccer than pro soccer in the US. And it's structured accordingly.

I get that he doesnt get INTs. Thats for fans to overrate. Non-casuals, football guys, should recognize how good Mitchell is. 6th is ridiculous. Even Mina Kimes said top 3, and it sounds like she put him at 2 instead of Stingley.

I want INTs. I focused on trying to find draft prospects this year who would help out with that. I value it. But I recognize how good Mitchell is anyway. And on the flip side of that coin, I always thought Asante Samuel was overrated, basically because of his INTs.

Nah, they did them a favor by not waiting until tomorrow at 7pm. Anaheim was poking around to see what four 1st rounders might get them in trades and found out not a darn thing close to Carlsson or a top pair right handed defenseman.
