EMB Blog: 2026 Camps and Preseason

Finished up at Chiefs Training Camp today...

Mahomey looked good. But I'm not sure his legs are there yet. Not much burst and he was actually checking his leg at times reaching for it. Thick brace hiding under uniform. Don't see 100% confidence in the knee yet. Sure, he's being really careful. Did throw on the run some and was accurate for the most part. Kenneth Walker stood out. Especially in the passing game. Didn't see Worthy or Rice today. TK looked solid and still has some juice. Think Chiefs will be lucky to be a Wild Card team this year and will be losing a lot of tight games. I will always hope for that rubber match between Hurts and Mahomes to settle the score. On another note, Mahomes looked bigger in person.

If they really like Bell or Lampkin this year, they're not going to draft one early because then you end up with a first round pick sitting on the bench. Even if they become Mailata's replacement it'll be at least 3 years.

Besides, picking in the late first there aren't going to be any sure fire tackle prospects without giving up a ton to move up

Lampkin is basically irrelevant. Yesterday was the first time they tried him at G and who knows if it was just to be a body. I really can’t see a guy his size ever playing G in the NFL. It sounds almost absurd.

Another thing to factor in is this might also be Steens last year. I guess he could sign a short term deal for cheap but I wouldn’t be surprised if he walked either. Add in Dickerson and whatever he’s going through, a first round T/G would not be surprising at all.

I think they like Bell. I don't think it's "We believe without a doubt this is our RT of the future" kind of love. I think they are adding to the OL room just as they are adding to the WR room with AJ gone. They'll keep adding talent.

I just learned Lampkin isnt even 6ft tall. How is he even considered for an OL position? With all the talk around him i assumed he was a legitimate prospect but there probably hasn't been a sub 6ft OL since like the 80s. Feel like they're wasting a roster spot there.

I can see OG, I do not see OT if they really like Bell, which it seems like they might based on him getting reps with the 1s

Of course they're not going to know without a doubt one week into training camp. But he's already getting reps with the 1s in place of lane, if (when) lane misses time it looks like he might be next man up. If he looks good there or at practice during the season, I don't see them spending a first on an unknown.

Lane’s age, health, his kids growing up, and it sounds like his parents declining health, are all factors for him ending his stellar NFL career after this season.

One more Lombardi, Lane!!

Tbh if he didn’t have the injuries he had last year, and would’ve played the whole season I kind of wonder if he would’ve retired after last year. I don’t think he wanted to go out that way, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if he would’ve retired.

I hope Lampkin makes the team. I don't think he has any chance as a guard, but I think he does as a center. He was really good in college. He has looked really good with the Rams(it's why the Eagles poached him) and has looked good with the Eagles. If he was 6'2 instead of 5'11 I think the guy would've been drafted in round 3 or 4 in 2025. But maybe he's just one of those guys that produces regardless of size. I'd like them to keep him around. But I wonder if lack of versatility might factor in. I think he has more upside as a center than Majors though.

I believe Jeff Saturday was under 6 ft. Lampkin is only about an inch shorter than him. Additionally Lampkin has uncommonly long arms for a guy with his height. So while his wingspan is below average it’s not as freakishly below that you might imagine.

The thing about Lampkin is that he is a joy to watch. His balance, his technique, his aggressiveness, his understanding of angles and leverage. He was an absolute sensation in Rams camp last year and their fans were devastated when the Eagles poached him. They had just watched him kick ass in the preseason and were convinced they had a gem on their hands. I’ve had a sort of man crush on him since they claimed him and I spent some time watching him.

I understand that there does come a time when too small really IS too small. But I’m not convinced Lampkin is at that threshold. He’s probably the guy I’m most interested in watching this preseason.

More Kay Adams discussion please.

Back to topic: I really like the 2027 Safety class. Grab one in RD1 or RD2.

KJ Bolden in RD1 would be amazing if he falls a la Quinyon. Add to the Philly Dawgs.

They should be working him at center exclusively then, I dont believe jurgens is going to make it through the season. I get they love versatility but if jurgens gets hurt again this season they need to tell him to retire or something cause we cant do this song and dance every year with him and dickerson.

He is in no way going to be handed the job. They will address it like they do other positions they value very highly... by putting a lot of high quality resources into it. Expect OT round 1.

Nah.

Smith is like 150 and they motioned him in and out of the backfield a lot the past few years. Not sure this is saying much.

Over/under 8 games that Lane Johnson suits up this season?

Easy over. He's only played fewer than 8 games twice in his career and one of those (2016) was because of his suspension

It’s my favourite HOF speech since Charles Hayley worked blue at his induction.

First bit of concept art/storyboard building for my 2026 Eagles Hype Video.

I think if Lane retires after this year, Bell will get the 2027 as a trial run for the starting position. Then in 2028 when we have 2 first rounders they’ll take an OT high if they don’t like what they see.

If we want a first round pick in 2027 it will be someone they think can play OG as well, because that’s where our real weakness is. Dickerson is likely to retire soon and Steen is a free agent, so they could play the rookie at RG if Steen walks with the idea that if Bell flops he can kick outside to RT.

Stadium does look pretty cool. A lot of respect to Buffalo for building an outdoor stadium.

7 QBs in the First Round would be good news for the Eagles.

1) Not if Hurts looks like garbage in this modern offense.

2) My point was at least 4 or 5 of these 7 QB prospects will fizzle out during the season. It always happens.

Far too early to feel that about Bell at this stage. He'll play in preseason and if the past is a guide he'll get some snaps during the season as well.
