Greenard and all time bad move considering the draft assets given up for him and then the contract on top of it.

So he can't stay healthy and we put a lot of resources into him. Awesome

I think starters should play in preseason

All this PR spin is because Hurts already acquired part ownership of the Eagles. Of course he’s not going to bash his own business

But the national media thinks Jalen is going to sue the Eagles...

I always got the sense that the culture in the organization is extremely family oriented with Jeff and Howie. And I think Sirianni fits that mold as well as we have seen his kids at press conferences.

The Howie to Lane Johnson quote keeps getting brought up, and I dont know when exactly that was but it wouldn't shock me if business was conducted differently in the Chip Kelly era.

If Greenard ever gets healthy which is a big if, he should be used as intended which is to rush the passer and set the edge not drop into coverage on 40% of the pass plays.

We have to see ultimately how this plays out but if things don't improve this would be worse than the Huff signing as that was just a FA move and didn't involve giving up two 3rd round picks.

Will be a fun watch. He has a lot of Wentz in him. :)

I feel like this is Vic's last year regardless.

People will figure things out the hard way very, very soon if that's the case. People forget very quickly that a 'respected' defensive coordinator is Jim Schwartz, and he was so respected he ran sticks defense, which everyone despised. Grass isn't always Eagles greener on the other side.

By the way, good luck to that potential new coach if he doesn't reach the SB by year 2, after the Eagles got to SB year 2 in two consecutive staff groups, not to mention going back in another 2 years...

Fanbase will eat him alive.

No offense I take Jim Schwartz. When they gave him talent, he maximized it. 2017 he did a really good job outside of that Super Bowl game. They dealt with some injuries at corner that year and frankly their corners weren’t nearly as good as what they eagles now have. Furthermore, in 2018 they had a bunch of injuries. They had guys off the street. They brought in who wound up being competent players to the point that that defense by the end of the year was at least playing at a high enough level that they had chances in both of the playoff games. Against offenses that were good that year.

Like the fact of the matter is Jim Schwartz had a solid defense with the Browns. The Browns offense was so bad like ours now it skewed the defense. But analytically they still held up really well. Nothing wrong with Jim Schwartz. I love fangio and prefer him but Schwartz is also fine if Fangio retires.

Schwartz had no secondary with us. If the pass rush couldn't make it in time then the secondary got abused. But we had a great Dline with Schwartz

It would be interesting to see him with the new secondary we have but he wants to be a HC. Otherwise he would still be a DC

Greenard is approaching Bryce Huff status pretty quickly

This was all 4D chess by Lurie. He tried to kill Hurts knowing that Hurts would then become part owner, which is what Lurie always wanted because he's broke.

Question for @vikas83 believe he’s said in the past they really can’t.

They can't. Dead money is related to bonuses already paid to a player that haven't fully hit the salary cap. A simple example - Jalen received an option bonus of $50.285mm this year. Call it $50mm even to make the math easy. That $50mm will be amortized over 5 years, so the cap hits are $10mm each year from 2026-2030. Now, if we move off him after this year, that $40 million that hasn't hit the cap yet (because only $10 million of the $50 million was charged to the cap in 2026) must be accelerated onto the cap either all in 2027 (if before June 1) or split between 2027 and 2028 (if after June 1).

Through the end of 2026, we will have paid Jalen ~$157.3 million in cash on this contract but only have taken $73.6 million in cap charges, so there is $83.7 million in dead money that will be accelerated onto the cap in 2027 or 2027/2028. His 2027 cap number for being on the team is ~$42.1 million, so the net impact on 2027 for a pre June 1 trade is a $41.6 million hit (Spotrac is a couple million higher, likely due to incentives and workout bonuses). If we CUT him, then we owe him another $22mm for his guaranteed 2027 salary, so the dead money is ~$106 million.

Jalen can't do anything to change the dead cap hit from trading him since that money has already been paid. I guess he could theoretically give money back (not sure if this possible), but it's more likely I have a growth spurt at 47 and become 6 feet tall.

Greenard should be IR’d, then if possible cut his arse ASAP. @vikas83 can we make this $$$ happen??

I’d bring back Gym Sticks Shorts as DC in a milli second, once Vic retires.

So you think people would rage about sticks defense less, or that we could do worse than him?

A much better question in my opinion is how he'd work with the linebackers honestly.

Howie has been drunk since the Superbowl. I can't comprehend how the rug was pulled under us so fast. It's like 2024 was some fluke.

Or 2017? Or even 2022 where they went to the Super Bowl and got hosed? Or the fact that they have been one of the winningest organizations in 2000's with victories, playoff appearances and playoff victories? No GM is perfect, hindsight is indeed 20/20 and honestly, we were due for a clunker.

frankly, the sticks defense only got talked about because Cory Graham didn’t do his Fing job against the Titans. Otherwise people wouldn’t ****ed as much.

Furthermore, people were more upset that he played his corners about 7 to 10 yards off every single play. But the reality was that was more about their corners. Because Jalen Mills was not a great corner and couldn’t make up speed. Same thing with her Douglas. Ronald Darby could, but Ronald Darby was always hurt or he would get beat when they try to have them up.

The difference now is they actually legitimately have corners that he can play up. Which is gonna help the pass rush. But really if your pass rush is really good and you have Mitchell, DeJean, and they find somebody like woolen next year then he can play his corners up. Which is gonna make that defense much better than what we saw probably at any time in his last tenure here.

Just saying, at least Jim Schwartz knows how to adjust to the personnel that he has and get more out of less. I’m not really sure I could say the same thing about the offense over the last 2 years.

I’m sure people will see what Saleh said and applaud him for standing up for a player. The guy went to his car to get a gun after an argument. Who k owes what would have happened if a teammate didn’t talk him down. I’m sorry, but this is just over the top defense.

Pretty sure we'd need to change the defense personnel again if we go back to Schwartz though

And how does the insurance possibly factor in? Can that be used to pay down the dead cap?

Absolutely not - even cutting him this offseason as a post June 1 is damn near impossible. $43.5mm in total dead money. $29.4mm in 2027 which is a net hit over $18mm.

Would have to be a trade.

The sticks defense was spectacularly successful, and the only reason so many people complained about it is because they were dumb. However, I did agree with the argument that it was sometimes used at stupid times. Like, 3rd and 20, 10 yards gets the team in FG range, but we are in Sticks defense happy to stop them at 18 yards... still give up points. Should have stuck with a real defense there maybe....

That would create a cap credit if it applies. My best guess is ~$15mm for 2027 that just increases overall cap space.

Jordan Davis probably loses a ton of value with a scheme change.

I hated it when he had them 10 yards off

I have no idea how he can defend his character when he went to his car to get a gun. Crazy.
