All we need is a defensive player to say for who and for what?

I was half way out this offseason with him and wanted no part of that crazy ass extension. After this episode of quitting on the field and now quitting on the fans and possibly the coaching. Fully out now. This is not being sensitive either. He has a track record. And I'm gonna believe that there's more coming. Like AJ. There's always drama and headaches. And excuses. Potential only takes you so far. Nip this in the bud and hope someone pays up for him in a nice package.

Next season.

I know that is tongue in cheek, but it's just odd to me that he's a non participant in a walkthrough for the second straight week yet has not been IR'd. That tells me he could be back in a week or two?

Remember, the walk through injury report is an estimation of what would have happened if they practiced. He could have been part of the walkthrough and still be listed as non-participant. The team is notoriously conservative with the estimations. The real info will be does he do anything today or tomorrow.

And now we have real info:

Other than our elite WRs being saddled with Jalen Hurts for much of, if not their whole careers so far, I can't think of a player who has had a more frustrating lack of opportunities to really show out for his entire career than Tanner McKee. He has a long term starting role as the backup here now and still can't play with starters even though its not some week 18 garbage game.

I will probably get roasted into oblivion for this take but I have typed it up and deleted it three times already. This isn't meant to poke at PHI, it's just what a respectful fan of a rival thinks of a very good organization and team.

I understand the frustration, anger, disappointment all of you have. PHI has been on top or near it for the last 20+ years, minus a couple bad seasons. This is just a really bad year (injuries, aging vets) The team has been affected off the field as much as it has on the field. Leadership has taken a significant hit over the last year and a half. Hurts and Lane this year, Kelce last year.

I get that there are folks wanting to trade the DT position based on what JC has put on tape (on and off the field) the last few weeks, however replacing that level of talent with an impact DT in the draft is a very difficult thing to do. This years class does have 3 DTs ranked in the top 20 of the overall board but getting immediate impact from a rookie DT is rare. Help on the edge to get pressure will help the DTs (and the secondary, DAL has the same issue). PHI has bigger needs than replacing a DT that can still be great.

I think things overall this year would look a lot different with a no nonsense, defensive minded HC. JC is young and a bit of wildcard, not a horrible thing, sometimes that can feed and develop the personality of a defense. Thats what was going on in '24. A HC that will get in JCs a$$ and hold him accountable in a constructive way along with some help on the edge is what is needed, not a trade. Who is the team leader on the defensive side of the ball? Someone all the players respect and can take criticism and correction (as well as praise) from? That kind of guy can also help get the best out of JC and the rest of the defense.

A lot of the problems can be fixed with the right leadership, the FO has it, the coaching and player leadership needs more to help right the ship. This team is not without talent. Is it as deep as it has been like in '22 or '24? No, but it isn't that far off. Not to mention PHI has some guys that simply haven't been asked to do a lot because the starters in front of them have been so good for so long they haven't had to. Use the remainder of the year to evaluate who really can start here and play at a high level. The right leadership, accountability, a few solid roster moves and better than average drafts in '27 & '28 and PHI is back to being the bully on the block. PHI has SEVENTEEN draft picks including 3 #1s and 3 #2s to use to get what they need.

PHI is in a better position than several other teams that fail every year because of FO decisions, Howie isn't going to get everything right, but he is still one of the best in the league...this season could be a blessing in disguise. A complete fire sale is not needed.

DAL has their warts, coaching and FO mainly, I still have more faith that PHI can recover before DAL sniffs a NFCCG.

The disappointing part to this team, and really an indictment on Nick, is that they ultimately showed they were only front runners. It’s easy to be happy when you’re 10-0/11-2 but they hit a little adversity and completely folded in the tents. The same thing happened in 2023. Guys like Carter and DeJean are talking like they’re completely rattled because they never lost like this in college or high school. There was a path to fight this year, stick close to around a .500 record, and see what happens later in the season. But the season is over before Halloween because no one in that locker room on the player or coach side could hang tough and fight through adversity.

The other thing people are failing to realize besides Q, no one took the next step. So maybe the talent isn't what we thought in many areas. And we've lost a ton of it as well. People assumed Hunt, Smith, Coop, Davis, Carter and recently Makuba and Campbell were all sure things. No progress with any of those guys since 2024 season. That could have been their best. And Ringo and Brown didn't pan out. There's flash in the pans in the NFL that never return to that same greatness. I think they have some talent. But certainly not enough. Also, need to factor in overall defensive IQ. We lost a lot of that in Dean, BG, Blank, Sweaty and Slay. People assumed that the baton would just smoothly be passed and the same standard would be upheld. Not so fast. And Fangio was some master mind that could make anything work. Peeps caught up.

If Barkley can't go on Sunday, we'd only have Blue and Mitchell at RB. I can't recall us ever going into a game with only 2 RBs.

Howie's stealth tanking and maybe keeping certain guys out before any further injuries can occur. No one is getting rushed back any time soon. Gives me hope that his mindset is right for this very important trade deadline here.

Tbh i never thought smith was coming back til after the bye. Makes sense. He misses the 3 games prior to it then gets the bye as well. Essentially they shave a game off when he can return by not IR’ing him. Barkley feels like he’s probably on the same course of not playing the next two and gets the bye. See where he’s at. Imo really should go on IR. He needs more time considering he missed 2 games and 2 plays in got hurt compensating for the injury.

Holding them back keeps his options open for trade. They can't get further injured and can help new team in the near term. He has given up on this season. It's super clear to me.

Selling players they expect to leave in free agency anyway is fine. Get those picks.

Ojomo, Woolen, Steen and Goedert are the 4 most obvious ones that (hopefully) have some value. Then guys like Ebiketie, Epenesa, Hollywood, Moore, Big Fred, etc. where you'd likely take anything if offered.

Hate watch update:

Who wants to trade Carter?

I'd be willing to trade Davis if possible. His cardio must suck

That may have been their hopes for Barkley prior to last week. I don’t know how youre a team that’s trying to win this year and you saw what happened after 2 plays into that Dallas game want to give up the compensation it would cost to acquire him, knowing that he could be injured all year and might have that same problem.

Send Dom out to find Dalvin Cook at this point.

The Titans gave Simmons a $105m contract extension this past offseason, with $60m guaranteed. Then traded him same year. I guess it's possible.

@vikas83 @LeanMeanGM @paco how does that work with the cap, we keep thinking guys with recent contract extensions are untradeable due to cap/dead money/etc.

It all depends on structure and if they trade him so soon after it’s mostly signing bonus related. Spotrac and OTC already updated so I don’t know exact details but the Titans are going to have dead cap of $14.1M this year and around $21M in dead cap next year

I have hope when I see what happened with Jurgens. Not exactly the same case. But he's had serious back issues and playing bad for a year and a half. I can't rule out anything. They have to get the reports and feel like he can heal in a few weeks and not come back too soon next time. What grade of tear is it? I guess we don't know that kind of info. I'll say this, if a team believes he can be ready in 3-4 weeks and help them in late November/Early December and the playoffs. And they want to keep him after that time it may he worth the risk. Not saying we are gonna get a fortune for him. But better than many of the other guys they have. His pedigree and a recent Superbowl champion is a nice lure.

I saw DeVonta Smith didn't participate in the walkthrough yesterday. Do we have any idea when he will be back?

He’s not there today either so no, not really
