EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Yikes you guys are negative. I still have them winning the division.

The Eagles are exactly where I figured they’d be. Absolutely any rational person could have seen this coming…and I bet Howie did.

We all knew Lane wouldn’t finish the year and that Jurgens and Dickerson were walking dead. All the other injuries coalesced in one game in which no one pencilled in as a win in the first place. And they’ll all be back soon enough.

The Jurgens trade was an unexpected opportunity, not the beginning of a fire sale. Of course, arm chair GMs around the nfl are already speculating about picking the Eagles dry…so this move will make Howie’s phone ring…and he’ll listen. But they aren’t looking to quit on the season yet.

And the offense? Anyone who didn’t see this coming was insane. The notion that the subtraction of a professional offensive coordinator, underwhelming as he may be, and a malcontent pro bowl wr would magically make the offense better was honestly infantile.

Everyone knew the OL would be rough, the playmakers would be sparse, and Hurts is a poor fit for a timing, quick read offense that doesn’t lead on a dominant rush attack.

All of this doesn’t mean the eagles suck. It just means the idiot fans are in a panic because the Eagles aren’t the foremost juggernaut in the nfl like you were told to believe.

They still have the worst division in the nfl with teams that will choke down the stretch.

I can see it now…

Eagles get: Joe Burrow

Bengals get: Hurts, 2028 1st, and 2028 2nd

I don’t think either happen, but I think Lamar Jackson would be more realistic if you’re going down that route. I thought it was interesting how Howie said he and EDC (Baltimore GM) talk somewhat often and have a good relationship after the Jurgens trade.

So trade a guy who has won a SB for a guy who hasn't with two of the best WRs in the league, gets hurt, and is about to be 30? Wasn't there also speculation he was debating retirement?

Speaking of guys who can't win big games

Things aren't as symmetric since the season moved to 17 games. I used to post quarter mark stats and projected stats. But all of our references for good/bad season are still generally lodged in there as 16 games. So here are some quarter mark stats and projections for a 16 game season:

Hurts: 713yrds / 7 TD / 3 INT / 105 rushing yrds 87.4 rtg....projects to --> 2852 / 28 / 12 / 420 rushing yds

Devonta Smith: 19/234/12.4/1 --> 76/936/12.4/4

Wicks: 12/197/16.4/1 --> 48/788/16.4/4

Goedert: 5/81/16.2/2 --> 20/324/16.2/8 (projecting to 8 GP)

Barkley: 181/5.1/0 --> 724/5.1/0

Lemon: 10/65/6.5/0 --> 40/260/6.5/0 (pretty much the worst YPC we've seen, would be less yards than Reagor as a rookie, more than JJAW, most comparable to Greg Ward in his first year on the roster)

You know Sirianni is chomping at the bit to do this.

Lamar can stay in B'More FOREVER.

I'm a uniform nerd, those Broncos uni's are SICK. Just frickin' awesome.

He already has his hand in things. That's why they look so bad.

😂

Wicks was added to the injury report with a hamstring. Must have done it in practice today

I was going to reply to the post before this, then I realized it was RTK. I'm just curious then, because Foles said the offense on tape has a lot more going for it now, is this actually a compliment? Or do you not really take what Foles said seriously?

I don't know more than Foles, but there is a common look to the offense before and after Nick is involved going back to Shane

No Barkley, wicks or Devonta Sunday. Yikes lol

There is no earthly way the bengals make that trade unless burrow demands out.

I jokingly said bring me burrow but there's no feasible way to do that cap wise because hurts is stuck here.

That said, if there was a way to bring burrow here we're winning another super bowl. Anyone saying he's never won anything doesn't care to do any critical thinking, the guy has the worst defense in the league by a mile. He averages like 27 ppg in the playoff while the defense gives up like 29. Getting rid of jurgens and Dickerson makes the line better as well which is another cinci failure

Bengals actually have a better ranked defense than the Eagles.

I really wish howie hadn't wasted those picks in the greenard trade. Big shocker, a dude who was hurt all the time in Minnesota has been hurt since he got here. Then they gave him an extension before he even did anything. Awful, awful move

I think in the modern league, most offenses have some version of shotgun oriented design. I think what matters more is the route concepts and blocking schemes rather than general formation, in terms of showing how an offense is designed. If the concepts are different, it's not the same offense, regardless of what the formations look like. It's not like the old days where the WCO looks entirely different than other schemes types, so much so that you can spot it a mile away. Many offenses are blends now, with a lot of details of difference in the concepts and how they're used.

That's also why Patullo was so much worse than some of the other OCs.

There's a couple of armchair film guys disagreeing with a Superbowl winning QB saying where he'd throw it you say? Tell me more.

That sounds snarkier than the spirit it's meant but if an NFL QB tells me he can make that throw into that window, then I believe him over "Big Dave bunch of numbers NFL film breakdown".

Yeah cause unless you were a career backup that won a SB you’re not allowed to have an opinion. Bill Belichick the famously elite athlete. Some of the best scouts are some of the least athletic people on Earth. Some of the worst scouts are the best. Michael Jordan might be the worst talent evaluator of all time.

I love Foles but if it were that easy he would still be playing. Guess he forgot to know exactly what was going to happen and immediately where to throw the ball during his journeyman days.
