I own a Jags player in a Dynasty league and I don't think they are at the Bears level yet. Running game is a step down and the pass catchers are very good but not great. Scheme wise, doing a lot of good things but its not a game I'd think before kick off that we'll get rolled badly here, Could of course happen as they are good, but I wouldn't be doom mongering too badly.

The Bears’ OL is significantly better than the Jags’, which is fairly pedestrian. That’s the biggest difference.

I remember when Hurts use to use his legs to extend drives and pick up first downs - is that a factor even more now because we didn't up his contract?

If you watch that Nick Foles podcast analysis where they're going through the play where we went with a 3 receiver bunch and Foles points out Hurts could've easily hit any one of the three receivers if he'd just look in the right spot and get the ball out on time, it's infuriating to watch because you can see what the play was designed to do and the routes worked, and instead Hurts bails out the other side. He's not a late round rookie, it shouldn't be this hard, you've got 3 receivers left and not only do you not throw the ball, you bail out back and to the right... back and to the right.

Case Keenum is a journeyman bum and he carved us up 2 weeks ago just by getting the ball out on time to hit receivers in stride, nobody has ever given Case Keenum a $50mill a year contract.

It seems that Peters, Kelce, and Johnson are seen as future HOFers. So I did some light research. Only three times in the modern era has a team had three HOF OL playing at the same time:

1) Lombardi's Packers - Forrest Gregg, Jerry Kramer, and Jim Ringo

2) Madden's Raiders - Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto, and Bob Brown

3) 1977 LA Rams - Tom Mack, Winton Hill, and Jackie Slater. (To be clear, it was Hill's last season and only played three games. Also, Slater was still a backup. Neither was a starter, so it should be dismissed.)

So the OL dominance we've witness for half a generation has been extremely unique.

Editorial note...Folks here credit much of Sirianni's success to the talent on his roster. John Madden inherited a team that went 12-2 the previous season. He had 11 HOFers play for him over his ten-years. There were 44 first- or second-team All-Pro seasons played under him. He only went to the one Super Bowl he won. Tom Flores won two Super Bowls in the five seasons that followed Madden.

Yup, did see that, I think the open receiver in the middle was Wicks? That segment by Foles shows what Hurts has left out on the field in the passing game......but go back to all the 3rd downs from Sunday, 8 of the 12 third downs were either 3rd & 7 or LESS

Since when has Hurts not been able to escape the pocket and pick up the first down with his legs?

Yes the passing misses are horrible but being a very mobile QB and not using your legs to pick up those much needed first downs - seems like lack of effort.........

Maybe you need help with reading comprehension. Also, plenty of ex players have been pointing out how starters not playing in the preseason has lead to more soft tissue injuries, and the first 4 weeks being ugly football, as those games are really preseason for the starters. I know some Eagles fans are idiots (it's safe to say you might be), but jfc, this isn't hard to grasp 🤣

idk man, the Eagles are top 5 with fewest missed games by starters since 2021. Seems starters sitting out preseason games isn't the issue with injuries. There's been coaches (Mike LaFleur) on record stating they have data models that show joint practices equate to preseason games in terms of mitigating injury risk.

I wonder what we could get for Hurts?

I think most Eagles fans would be surprised how little value Hurts would carry across the NFL. I suspect his value on the open market would be similar to the value Nick Foles had. All the national media I listen to see Hurts as a product of the roster around him. I think very few GMs view him as coachable in the context of his ability to run any offensive scheme required. Hurts is not a plug-and-play acquisition. By the start of the 2028 season, he'll be 30 years-old; a dual threat QB who relies on his mobility is a rapidly depreciating asset.

The Ravens built an offensive scheme around Lamar Jackson, and I think the majority view is any team acquiring Hurts would need to do the same.

Regardless of how the season continues or ends, it would be encouraging to see some younger players step up to be leaders. Through the first 4 games, that is one hole I see in this team. Only a couple of guys come to mind that are leaders that players listen to and that's Baun/Barkley/Dickerson. Last year Nakobe was the voice on the defense, this year it seems absent......it would be nice to see players like DeJean or Carter take on that role. And hopefully more on offense will follow.

Maybe we just don't see it more pre-game because of broadcast coverage but I miss the days of seeing the leaders breaking it down and getting the team fired up, and then seeing that carry out on the field.

I watched that and think Foles was way off there. There was a chance to hit Wicks but he came open a little late. (You could tell Wicks was pissed because he threw his arms in the air afterwords) It’s easy to say in slow motion. There’s a couple breakdowns online disagreeing with it too. Especially the part when he says to throw it to Lemon. The DB is just sitting there waiting for a pick 6.

This is not to say Hurts can’t be frustrating but that particular breakdown I thought was a little sus.

I love the Jurgens trade and I don't understand the national commentary on it thinking he was still the same player from 2024. I don't think this signifies an end or them throwing the towel in. I think it signifies getting value for a guy who has been dreadful for on and off 20 games now. I know they're getting thrown to the fire, but I'm looking forward to seeing how Lampkin and Bell can hold up. Kendall has done a really nice job since taking over at center. This line had to get younger eventually, so better now than next season. Let's see what they have.

There are a number of problems right now so it will be interesting to see when they're addressed little by little how much it helps, if at all.

OL: consistency and injury has been a problem. We already saw that Kendall isn't a liability and having someone healthy and capable is better than injured and allowing defenders through so much. I don't know what to make of Lampkin yet but last year we saw the problems with Dickerson and Jurgens injuries being a liability. Talented, smart players but if your body can't do it, that just doesn't work. So it may still take time to improve week to week, but if it reduces the amount of times a defender is in Hurts face immediately unblocked, over time that can help.

The rest of the injured guys on offense matter, having that many starters out would hurt any offense. Yes, the other players have to step up and the other starters have to accommodate. The QB and coaches have to plan and figure out how to make it work. But having your starting WR1, TE1, RB1, RB2 all hurt plus the O line issues is a lot for any team. Having guys back healthy helps.

Mannion and the new scheme: we said there would be growing pains, and it might take 4-6 weeks to really see what the new offense is. There's been a lot of debate about it, whether they're changing things to mesh with past concepts because of Hurts or Siri or whatever. But the injuries and inconsistency of personnel doesn't help Mannion as a first time play caller. This is just his 3rd year of coaching in the NFL at all. And first year as OC. It may take him a whole year to really grow into the role. It's got to be hard when so many personnel changes.

It's been a wild week and now they're flying to London. The schedule gets a little easier coming up and if guys are back healthy that will help. Siri still has to do better in game management. Hurts still has a lot to improve in making reads, handling the blitz and finding open receivers, throwing with more anticipation. The offense has to find rhythm in the 2nd half, they have to convert on 3rd down. There's a lot to improve. A lot to evaluate week to week.

He's done that during atleast two games this season. I remember the Washington game he had a huge run for a first on like 3rd and 16, and I'm pretty sure he had one against the titans. I don't mind less runs from him because I don't want to see concussions or having defenders tee off on him - we all saw the hit last week, lol.

I was merely pointing out that the division stinks too. There's a really good chance that the NFCE champ wins again with a losing record, like 2020.

I don’t think any NFC East team has ever won the division with a losing record bud? I think it’s only ever happened once and that was the Panthers.

Stunts are really popular this year. I suspect with Willie playing next to Jordan it’s like rounding a corner and running into a bollard.

Windows over the middle close fast, it's where a lack of timing is very unforgiving. Nick Foles knows the routes, and where the defenders are ahead of the breaks - so he's anticipating that the WR will be wide open for a beat, if they do their job.

Wicks and Lemon aren't going to body guys up or run away from them, but they can get open for these windows. It's a kind of green to red light transition that Jalen is going to need to get comfortable with in this scheme and with this personnel to be successful.

2020 Washington won the NFCE with a 7-9 record.

Its time to Free Willie! I know there is a lot of hype on Lampkin but I really do think this guy is going to be an upgrade. His technique is awesome, moves well and I think the size thing is overrated. If him, Kendall and Bell can step up, it will be a big jolt to this offense that is on life support.

Greenard is looking a bit bust like.

If Lumpkin can avoid the quick beats, and Kuper actually slides the protection to the correct side (probably towards Bell most of the time) that should make a material difference.

Of course they close fast 🤣 that’s why Foles was a career backup. It’s easier said than done. There’s plays to criticize Hurts on. That’s a pretty iffy one.

Avant had a couple posted that I thought were good critiques of Hurts but Jason also pointed out a couple times receivers ran the wrong routes and Hurts threw the ball where they were supposed to be.

Stuff happens.

I don't think we would be surprised because we aren't oblivious to the criticism, we just think some of it is unfair. Also, the league has shown countless times that they'll give certain guys opportunities based on "potential" while completely ignoring the results. They also make excuses when other QBs don't get it done.

Lastly, most teams tailor their offensive scheme around the strengths of their QB. There's a reason the Bengals have been the least rushing team in the league for a minute. The Chiefs' run game was also neglected because they had Mahomes and figured he'd make up for it, but 3 straight seasons of him looking average made them realize he needs help there. Remember when Josh Allen had a turnover problem and they adjusted the offense and his play so he'd stop playing hero ball as much? Jalen would just need a good run game and good OL, which honestly, every QB needs.
