September 10Sep 10 Shocker! Back to talking about Hurts all day every day in here. Pathetic. At least, we had a short respite with AJ last nite.Paying around $50M a year or more to a Top 15 QB in the league is the current cost of doing business. A stiff like Stroud will probably get $50M or more soon. Of course, I wouldn't pay that, for his measly accomplishments. So Hurts is now the 13th highest paid QB in the league. With Hurts there is a championship track record and he gives you championship potential right off the bat. What more could I ask for as a fan? People still act like this is all some fluke. Like to know, what recent draft pick or trade commodity would be able to offer that potential currently? We already explored DeShawn Watson and Russell Wilson. Let's not forget Tanner Brady and Carson Strong. LOL. Some never learn. There is an immense dearth of talent at the QB position. Because of that, they will get paid gross amounts of mulah. Again, the cost of doing business. I've said this many times in here. Howie will figure out the money situation and will know what to do to build a roster and manage an ever increasing salary cap with the best of them. People get too caught up in that salary and is he worth it, etc. Remember when Hurts first got that huge contract and was top dog, everyone lost their shidd about future roster construction etc.People love to hypothesize, but he is simply hard to replace. So just deal with these imperfections and be happy. Never saw party of a fan base whine about someone so incessantly, who won you a Superbowl and should have won 2. I understood the Wentz whining. This I don't.My question is would any other QB have won you anymore than that one superbowl he won, given the rosters he's had? Did he underachieve here on the whole, where he left some meat on the bone? He outplayed the goat twice, when there was a worthy roster. I don't think anything has been sacrificed at all here, having him as your starting QB, regarding winning championships. Which is all that matters.
September 10Sep 10 Just draft any other QB and the results won't only be the same but better because, just because.

I'd also argue he's an elite game manager which imo is an underrated and even used as a QB slur at times. But he makes good decisions with the ball. Knows when to push it. Knows when to bail and throw it away. It's important and part of reason why uber rarely talented QBs like Jameis Winston wash out.So yeah like you said, it's ok to point out the flaws and still recognize he's got a skill set that can win. Both can be true. Not only can both be true … flaws and winning attributes are always present in successful QBs.

Ball placement. Timing. Ability to read a defense. Game Management. Probably most important Pocket presence. Mobility. Leadership/unflappability. Also in there but maybe graded a smidge lower.

September 10Sep 10 Eagles worked out a punter today Luke Elzinga. Wonder if Mann pulled something in practice.

And they always rear their head in high volume then the coaches are pushing something besides the offense we’ve become accustomed to the last 3 years….ball control, lots of running, not much over the middle, and selective deep balls along the sidelines. When they do that, Hurts never turns it over. When they push past that, he turns it over a ton.The turnover numbers this year will be very telling.Agreed 100%. And I fully expect the winner in Hurts to make the necessary adaptations in his performance to succeed in the new system. The "failures” you correctly point out are when he was asked to go off script. What I expect from this year is a consistently different standard game in-game-out script, which will provide Hurts to again be "on script” consistently … just with a different script.
September 10Sep 10 Why can't Elliott pull something?! Guy is hanging around like a stubborn cockaroach.

I have to proofread my posts to avoid sounding like a blithering idiot. Often a fail.Anyway, it’s a team game. If the defense is clicking and the run game is going, as you suggest, only an idiot would give it away with reckless passing.

The Defensive team as a unit was the "most valuable.”The defense as a whole was really the MVP but they don't give it to an entire unit. Mike also continues to want to downplay Hurts' performance.Sweat had 2.5 sacks and 6 tackles. Milton Williams had 2 sacks and 4 tackles. DeJean had a pick 6, Baun an INT. The D line all were great, Mahomes didn't have a chance all day. They usually give it to the QB when there's not another standout. Hurts went 17/22, 221 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, passer rating 119.7 plus 11 rushes for 72 yards and a TD. It made sense especially given the dagger play. Tom Brady won MVP in 2020 when the Bucs defense also dominated the Chiefs and held them to 9 points. Brady went 21/29 for 201 yards, 3 TD, 1 sack, passer rating 125.8. Rushed 4 times for a loss of -2 yards and had a fumble. No one argues the defense should have won the MVP that day.

The Bucs just paid Baker Mayfield $55M AAV per season; I'm not sure I'd have wanted to sign off on that as a Bucs fan. Hurts will expect a bigger payday than that. The Eagles have won with Hurts; not in spite of him and not because of him. I think he was the Eagles best player in the Super Bowl they lost, and I think he wasn't in the top 5 Eagles best players when they won. He was essentially voted MVP because voters couldn't decide which defensive player deserved it most. The bigger question IMO is whether Hurts is replaceable. A guy who played like Hurts did in SB 57 and SB 59 is a lot better than having McNabb throw 3 INT in Super Bowl 39 or Jaworski throwing 3 INT in Super Bowl 15. How easily can the Eagles find another Nick Foles or Jalen Hurts who will play large in the biggest games?I'm a believer the next Eagles franchise QB will be found in the draft rather than free agency or trade. I'm not sure when that will be; this season will tell a lot. I'm content to give Hurts this season without pounding the table too hard for a replacement, but I wouldn't be in favor of a contract extension without a) a career year (regular season production) from Hurts or b) at least an NFCCG run.We saw what happens when you turn over the QB position last night. 13-10 and ugly to boot.

Was it a month? That's kind of my point. Anyone else can do what Howie does, they just don't know want to. Or they have massive ego's like Jerruh who get in their own way of building a better roster. It was about a month but that's besides the point. It was a mega contract and at one point the highest in the league but Howie still built a well run team around him despite that.

September 10Sep 10 I still don’t know who to root for tonight. I hate the 49ers and Seahawks more than I do the Rams, but the Rams slobbering this off-season makes me want to hate them just as much.
