EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

I think a lot of fans are stuck in the mindset of 20 years ago when there were a lot of great QBs. They want a QB that has laser accurate passing, picks apart a defense and makes minimal mistakes while throwing for over 4,000 yards and elevating the offense. The league just isn't that way anymore.

Some of the other QBs they say they want over Hurts make a lot of mistakes too but have more pass yards. Or they perform well in the regular season but choke in the playoffs. Then guys will pick apart Hurts playoffs and downplay it to just 2 good games. Hurts is a winner. He's a dual threat (the run game was lacking last year though) who has intangibles like leadership and clutch play.

The state of college football and QBs coming into the NFL is not giving the type of QBs these fans want. So they're stuck in a decades old mindset of drafting a QB with a top 5 pick and him having success instantly and being a better option than Hurts.

But look at the list of QBs taken in the first 3 rounds of the draft since after they drafted Hurts (the 2020 class of course had Burrow, Herbert and Love and Tua as well). A lot of these guys have been benched or moved to other teams as well.

2021

• Round 1 — Trevor Lawrence

• Round 1 — Zach Wilson

• Round 1 — Trey Lance

• Round 1 — Justin Fields

• Round 1 — Mac Jones

• Round 2 — Kyle Trask

• Round 3 — Kellen Mond

• Round 3 — Davis Mills

2022

• Round 1 — Kenny Pickett

• Round 3 — Desmond Ridder

• Round 3 — Malik Willis

• Round 3 — Matt Corral

2023

• Round 1 — Bryce Young

• Round 1 — C.J. Stroud

• Round 1 — Anthony Richardson

• Round 2 — Will Levis

• Round 3 — Hendon Hooker

2024

• Round 1 — Caleb Williams

• Round 1 — Jayden Daniels

• Round 1 — Drake Maye

• Round 1 — Michael Penix Jr.

• Round 1 — J.J. McCarthy

• Round 1 — Bo Nix

2025

• Round 1 — Cam Ward

• Round 1 — Jaxon Dart

• Round 2 — Tyler Shough

• Round 3 — Jalen Milroe

• Round 3 — Dillon Gabriel

Be careful what you wish for.

The issue with some of the QBs listed is they were taken far too highly for their overall talent/experience level - Anthony Richardson's lack of passing in College was an indicator he'd flame out as he has. The issue the NFL has is the pressure to take a QB early creates an environment where evaluating vs other positions is ignored or some players like Kyle Trask that should be picked a lot lower than they were, arrn't. Draft cost elasticity of demand -as thing for OTs.

That then creates pressure on the team (the Colts) to try and get a very raw player ready now vs letting them develop, which then perpetuates the College QBs aren't developing narrative. Or reqaully pressures a team to maximise a limited talent like Trask because of the sunk cost in them. No easy way around it, and I don't see teams reining in the QBs in the top 10 thing any time soon. The best hope is your evaluation and your staff being able to develop the player.

Hurts' biggest issue is consistency. He's shown he can play well (especially in the 2 super bowls) but why can't he do it during the regular season? I stand by my assessment that he's Eli Manning. Borderline average during the regular season but good enough to get wins, and can sometimes play great in the playoffs.

It's good enough for me unless he asks for more money. He doesn't deserve mkre money, the rest of the team does. $50m a year is more than enough for what he provides

So it's Brown's fault that a guy landed on his ankle? That's dumb.

A.J. Brown was a great Eagle. Best WR we've ever had.

None of us really knows about the relationship issues that resulted in the problems that we all watched. None of us can rightly blame.

I don't miss Brown's drama. I do wish we still had his production. Until they prove otherwise, I suspect that our WR groups is less strong without him.

Saquon was my first pick in our FF league (first year doing it in a while)...I picked 9 in a 12 team PPR league. Hoping and predicting the offense throws to Saquon a lot more than we have been.

Are any of you going to submit season record predictions, or Week One game score predictions?

He's getting an extension if we get to the playoffs again. Whether the offense struggles or not

Eli Manning was a turnover machine, only made the playoffs 6 total times in hia career out of 14 years as the starter, never won more than 12 games in a season, and only had double digit wins in a season 5 times in his career.

You are going to be one highly disappointed individual, when he signs his next mega contract. Unless he absolutely craps the 🛌 this year, which I don't anticipate. People better prepare for several more years of Jalen Hurts. He ain't going nowhere.

You want fantasy football stats, or wins?

Last year the hitches and verts kept the reads simple but became increasingly stale - this year I'm hoping for a primary read and a checkdown that's gives the opposing defense more to think about. Baby steps.

Pointing out consistency with Hurts isn’t wrong though. Yes, the team wins…sometime he wins. It is a bit overblown though with QB play around the league trending down. He’s not as bad as some make it seem, though it’s ok to admit he has moments where it looks like he’s never played the position before for long stretches.

Hopefully this new O rejuvenates things, I don’t want to have to watch the Eagles search for another QB again. They got lucky with him.

Seeing the timing throws will be exciting. Also spreading the ball around would be great

That guy continues to claim Hurts has only played 2 good games his entire career and ignores anything good he's done. He's had some high performing regular season games, played well in the playoffs in more than just the Super Bowls. He is one of the types that just wants an impressive passing stat sheet every game despite the man winning games.

People overreacted to Maye's play last year against an incredibly easy schedule. I think they're also overreacting a bit to 2 bad performances against a very good Seahawks team. He's young. Struggling against great defenses while missing your top target as a guy still on his rookie contact is kinda part of the process.

Time will tell. Here's hoping they at the very least suck next year.

Maye looked really good last night.... as a RB. Kinda like Hurts. 🤪

Yup...I am going to be paying close attention to spread schemes to isolate players in space, as well as the evidence of sequencing which was sorely missed last year. It won't happen overnight but I expect to see progress as everyone gets more comfortable in the transition.

It was the 3rd quarter right? I was expecting them to throw more to AJ early on but 4 targets and 3 receptions with 26yds was super low to me
