He's getting an extension if we get to the playoffs again. Whether the offense struggles or not

It would be stupid to give him a mega contract if he sucks this year. He's been average literally every year except 2022

I agree but I think being the QB on a team that's been to the playoffs and superbowl and won it will push him over to a mega contract

There are game managers that get mega contract. Cousins has been getting crazy money from personal stats. I imagine Hurts will get crazy money based on team stats

Some of you really don't deserve Jalen Hurts as QB. You deserve a lifetime of Cleveland Browns QBs

Some of us deserve better.

Game managers get big contracts but then their teams cant pay anyone else, so then that style of play is a detriment. Theyre only effective on contracts that don't cripple the ability to build a super roster around them. If they want to continue at $50m, it's still an insane amount for a game manager but with the cap going up it would put him right where he should be paid

We don't deserve a QB who won a Super Bowl on the back of a 2000 yard rusher and a lights out defense the day it counted most?

This is hilarious...

Such a different tone and strategy from the last moron they had that popped off before the NFCCG in '24 😂

I'm guessing Dan Quinn didn't want that smoke again and prepped his guy this time!

I like Jalen Hurts. As far as QBs go I think we could do a lot worse. I think he has a lot of positive qualities. He says all the right things, I think he is a great leader and pushes his teammates to be better, and he has some positive qualities to his game on the field as well. But that being said, I also can identify the negatives to his game. I think it would be irresponsible to just hand him another big contract if he still continues to struggle in the offense these next two season. Especially considering we have 2 first round picks in 2028. If Jalen plays well, great. Extend him and use those picks to stock up young talent. If he struggles that could be the perfect time to strike and grab our QB of the future. Time will tell what we should do

Sounds like ATL could be a trade partner for a QB....Tua hurt and Cooper Rush taking all the reps today

McDaniels called a worse game last night than Patullo did all of last season. The Seahawks knew what they were going to do. They were all over the receivers. Maye was under pressure most of the game. I don't think they were caught off guard by a single play. McDaniels had no adjustments. He has a mobile QB and he didn't move the pocket or have some designed QB runs. He didn't even pander to AJ with some designed throws to him. MacDonald was light years ahead of him. Seattle's offense did not look much better but that was with Lock and a new OC.

The biggest problem I saw during the game was the fact that NE could not run the ball effectively. Stephenson averaged 2.8 a carry, they couldn't even convert on short distances. I went back and looked at the box score, 31 runs vs 31 passes. It's nice to be 50/50 run/pass to keep the defense honest but when the QB has 47 out of the 109 yards rushing (scrambles, no designed QB runs as you said) you have to make adjustments, and they never did.

Even worse, in spite of the lack of adjustments, and two previous INTs in the 4th quarter, they were in a position to take the lead or tie at a minimum (thankfully no OT last night). The lack of situational awareness is just baffling, especially after throwing INTs on the two previous drives. Maye was being flushed out of the pocket all game though, it came down to their inability to handle the front 7 and blitzes that just kept coming, SEA blitzed 28% of the snaps they had. Three 4th q drives three INTs. I thought I was watching Dak, although Dak would have thrown his INTs in the first quarter and would have been down by 4 TDs.

If they could have established even a little bit more of a running game and converted a couple of the short conversions they probably win the game. Is the SEA defense that great, or is NE inability to block the front 7 and pick up blitzes the problem? I believe it's more on the NE OC and blocking/blitz repsonsibilities. The QB has to have a play they can check into when they are getting 7 or 8 on the LOS. Thats on the OC for not having something prepared, moving a back or TE to the A gap obviously didn't work. If NE can't figure out how to run the ball more effectively it's going to be a very long season for them...especially for Maye.

On the flip side paying big money to even elite QBs will hinder the team in another way. Either you can't field an Oline that'll protect him or you can't get him weapons or you can't build a defense and always have to deal with shootouts

QB contracts overall are just getting way too much

Too much to ask for an offense that dkesnt rely on having a top 3 defense or 2k yard rusher to win games?

Run game and defense used to be what Philly fans craved.

I've agreed over the years we want more out of the pass game. They did well in 2022 with it, in 2023 Hurts numbers were actually better than 2022 (his runner up MVP year) except in interceptions and the defense was ranked 30th. He actually did well in 2021 despite being a first year starter with Smitty as a rookie plus garbage at WR with Sanders at RB and defense bottom half of the league.

As I've said, he's got flaws (so do most QBs) and he isn't a top passer. So expecting big passing stats is futile. We'll see how the new system goes this year.

Hurts demonstrates that it's possible to be a top QB without being a top passer. Don't assume that those of us who point out the weaknesses in his passing want to see him gone from the team.

Disagree with this. Hurts was at one point the highest paid player in the NFL. Howie did just fine building a team around him. Just because some teams don't want to doesn't mean they can't.

I thought Howie does contracts differently from the rest of the league?

IIRC he wasn't the highest paid for long. Was it a month?

I think there's value in turning over the QB position and freeing up about $45-50M to keep the rest of the roster really strong. The Bucs just paid Baker Mayfield $55M AAV per season; I'm not sure I'd have wanted to sign off on that as a Bucs fan. Hurts will expect a bigger payday than that. The Eagles have won with Hurts; not in spite of him and not because of him. I think he was the Eagles best player in the Super Bowl they lost, and I think he wasn't in the top 5 Eagles best players when they won. He was essentially voted MVP because voters couldn't decide which defensive player deserved it most.

The bigger question IMO is whether Hurts is replaceable. A guy who played like Hurts did in SB 57 and SB 59 is a lot better than having McNabb throw 3 INT in Super Bowl 39 or Jaworski throwing 3 INT in Super Bowl 15. How easily can the Eagles find another Nick Foles or Jalen Hurts who will play large in the biggest games?

I'm a believer the next Eagles franchise QB will be found in the draft rather than free agency or trade. I'm not sure when that will be; this season will tell a lot. I'm content to give Hurts this season without pounding the table too hard for a replacement, but I wouldn't be in favor of a contract extension without a) a career year (regular season production) from Hurts or b) at least an NFCCG run.

Hurts has great mobility and a great deep ball which everyone knows. I'd also argue he's an elite game manager which imo is an underrated and even used as a QB slur at times. But he makes good decisions with the ball. Knows when to push it. Knows when to bail and throw it away. It's important and part of reason why uber rarely talented QBs like Jameis Winston wash out.

So yeah like you said, it's ok to point out the flaws and still recognize he's got a skill set that can win. Both can be true.

I'm curious how well Baker does without Evans

IMO the position should get capped. I wouldn't care if there were multiple players at the top either

Sweat should have been MVP

I think they'd need to focus on building a team to reach the SB before thinking who can perform in the game. There are some elite QBs with problems on their teams that block them from reaching the game even though they get blamed for it. Oline, defense, and weapons. Hurts has had all

I don't assume that, and I also point out weaknesses in his passing. The guy I'm replying to continues over the last year to insist Hurts has ONLY played 2 good games in his entire career and downplays everything else he's done.

Hurts turnovers have come in bunches. And they always rear their head in high volume then the coaches are pushing something besides the offense we’ve become accustomed to the last 3 years….ball control, lots of running, not much over the middle, and selective deep balls along the sidelines. When they do that, Hurts never turns it over. When they push past that, he turns it over a ton.

The turnover numbers this year will be very telling.

Question to everyone … If you were putting together a QB grading scale, what criteria would that scale include, and what respective weight would you you assign to each criteria?

Said another way, what do you believe the ideal QB is supposed to do, other than passing?
