I don't know. Would a new Head Coach want to come into a situation with a mediocre(to be kind)incumbent QB who only plays well in 'his' system? Hurts is on record saying last year's offense is the one he wanted to run. I suspect a good incoming HC is going to want a pretty clean sweep.

Link?

It needs to keep hitting rock bottom, every week, for any significant changes to be made.

Pray for a 5-12 season.

Draft Capital!

I’m just praying for nobody else to get hurt, especially Hurts

If they are going to fire Sirianni then do it soon and let Mannion audition for the job.

Hes supposed to be a future HC and bright young mind, etc

Hurts was alright in the first half. Hurts and the play calling was once again putrid in the second half. Why doesn’t this offense feature any Hurts designed runs? What’s the point of having a mobile QB if you’re not going to make the defense respect the threat of him running. Defenses don’t even worry about that anymore

He doesn't want to run anymore

3 straight losses sure couldn't have anything to do wiff Hurts leading an offense that has scored three points in the last three second halves. Has to be someone else's fault.

I will defend you with an RTK level commitment when you suck as the Eagles next QB.

I agree, but I think they'd keep him as a bridge QB and as a way of getting out of his contract a little easier.

Of course. Do I love Hurts as a QB? No. But Nick is such a bigger issue Hurts is way down the line. So is the scheme. So is the OL because of injuries. They would have two more wins just based on the coach. Howie should have put more into the OL if not the draft then FA. Bell looks good so kudos there, but he had two IOL with broken bodies.

I don't really agree with this. Just being honest, we haven't had coaches that are outstanding at managing game flow for quite some time. People just aren't being honest with themselves.

Andy Reid

  • Made boneheaded clock decisions we all hated.

  • Had a penchant for running the ball up the middle 4 straight times on the goal line into a brick wall.

  • Did the above instead of QB sneaking.

  • Made terrible challenges.

Chip Kelly

  • His entire offensive scheme made his defense worse.

  • He hired Billy Davis

  • He kept Billy Davis

  • He only had like two running plays in his playbook.

  • Also didn't QB sneak.

Doug Pederson

  • Was just as bullish about going on 4th down, without the high percentage play to do it.

  • Also made questionable challenges.

  • Also manned the ship with some pretty interesting ST calls.

  • His deciding to go for it on 4th started also biting us when the teams got worse.

I'm not sure I was watching football yet the last time we had a coach that actually managed games consistently well in all fundamental aspects.

So what are you going to say if when they release the stats for time to throw and he's around the same average?

They aren’t going to fire Sirianni in season. And Mannion blows so he’s not taking over crap. Mannion has been awful just like everyone else. Call another screen and first down run, dude!

you may be right, but there’s also a reason the discussion keeps coming back to him.

He’s the centerpiece of arguably the nfls worst offense. Siri is probably going to get fired. And the future of Hurts, in many ways, needs to be determined this offseason. It impacts their ability to recruit a head coach, draft approach, and cap approach. They need to make a decision on whether or not to extend him in the offseason.

Hurts is the centerpiece of the decision. And that’s just how it is with a qb. You may not be the biggest problem, but if you’re not part of the solution going forward you’re the most important problem.

Could that be a failure to make adjustments? This team has so many issues right now. It's easily not Hurts. Everybody is absolutely blinded saying it's one thing. He did his job in the end there to pull it out and didn't choke. 8 seconds from being a hero...embarrassing ending there.

Plus how deep in the playbook have the coaches taught Majors and Lampkin? Maybe they don’t know how to run QB draw?

Do some of you feel better when you blame him? Is it your binky?

True or false if Nick makes two basic decisions do the Eagles have two more wins? True

Did they have a run game today? No

Did they have two PS guys starting on the OL? Yes

Were people constantly in his face? Yes.

As good as the two WRs played today did they command the attention Smith gets? No

Did the TE vanish for a huge chunk of the game? Yea

Do they have crap depth at TE? Yeah

Did he miss people? Yes

Did he have time on a few throws? Yeah, so did Goldie on the other side who also did so did Stafford last week. QBs do that. Better ones than Hurts.

He's not going to become more after this many years in the league. With pressure he's not suddenly going to overcome it. With no run game and the injuries he's not going to carry them. That's not who he is. Getting upset about it when he isn't more is a waste of your time. I've never said Hurts has no blame. I've said he's way down the list which is correct and you can't expect a guy with limitations to play above them.

It’s not who he is. Let’s cheer for mediocrity.

Don’t know if anyone has said it but…

Ertz is a waste of a roster spot

The backups don't get to practice?

I said that before he was signed lol

How much can they practice in one week

He is not absolved from not being part of the issue. He has input into the offense, otherwise we would have scrapped the screens and 4 verts. The QB has input into what he wants in the offense, and to say he does not is just ludicrous. And if he has no input, that tells you he needs to go.

I’m on record questioning it

Then he's a lower half tier QB. I liked seeing him talking to teammates on the sideline. I liked that he moved the ball to give Elliot a chance to win the game (which we would have if not for Sirianni). I hate that in the 1st quarter on a 3rd down run, he goes out of bounds holding the ball behind him instead of fighting for a 1st down with his "he can squat 600 lbs" legs. When he was a dual threat QB, I'd argue all day he was a top 10 QB easy. Now ... he's nothing special aside from the uniform he wears.

Just now, Seventy_Yard_FG said:

I honestly don't know. I was seriously asking. I assumed starters obviously get the most amount of time but I'd also assume backups would have to get some time because players get injured

Defense and special teams blow this game in the closing moments, while Hurts leads them to what is ordinarily a game winning FG, with seconds left. Against a top AFC team. And its Hurts fault! Who played with an extremely compromised roster and coach. This blog is retarded.

Do you know how good the Jags D is? No smith, OL sucks, tons of pressure, and a QB with limitations. What do you honestly expect? Oh, and no run game.

42 minutes ago, jojodancer said:

A good head coach navigates the last 2 weeks and wins both games with leads in the 4th Q against teams who look disinterested in winning. Besides that, if you do let them return it, special teams is the one single reason they lost this game. Came down to one play and they choked.

Please enlighten us all and name some names, which person absolved the offense

There ya go joe, one who just doubled down on it was the special teams and defense, the other...idk what his deal is but there's a bunch of excuses for the offense. Not their fault

I’ll give a couple reasons why I wouldn’t have done that kickoff.

First, with the amount of injuries you have you have more guys playing kickoff that usually aren’t doing it or guys who are now starters that are also playing ST due to injuries. So you’re asking guys to do things they don’t normally do or very exhausted as they have new roles in the highest pressure moment

Second, the NFL changed the rule for kickoff because they wanted more dynamic kickoffs and less concussions. If i remember correctly the analytics have shown there’s been more returns and more quality returns since the rule change than the previous 3 years prior to the inception of the new kickoff rule.

Third, I am far more comfortable with my defense, knowing they have to play the boundaries and not give up 15 to 20 yards. if the jags had a timeout my thinking is very different. The Jaguars with 8 seconds and no timeouts have to be perfect. If the Jaguars complete a pass and the guy doesn’t get out bounce clock runs out. Eagles get a sack game is over. On first down if it’s incomplete, they only have enough time for one more play and the game is gonna be over.

Fourth, the Jaguars offense had more self destruct moments today. So it’s not a given they don’t screw up in those final 8.

Fifth, even if the Jaguars got 15 yards and out of bounds with time remaining. They would have to make a 67 yard field goal. I’m fine with them kicking a 70ish yard field goal down their long snapper and winning the game. I tipped my cap to them to be that perfect in that scenario for that to happen.
