For the not worried about Devonta Smiths size because he gets separation, he is not playing against defenses that have maybe 2 or 3 potential NFL players while playing on a college all star team.  He is playing on an Eagles team deficient at WR, he will be the focus and be facing top corners every week.

I hope he succeeds, but I think Jeremy Maclin is his ceiling, and he won't get to that, and that is if everything else around him is improved.

I personally dont care about a 40 time. 4.45, 4.42, 4.39 dont matter in a run you practice for in no pads. The kid has one hell of a route tree. Thats what I like.

I know a lot of you are down on Reagor but don't sleep on him.  I still have high expectations for him.  Give him an off-season with training camps and a year under his belt (an no more clueless Doug).  Assuming he isn't riddled with injuries this year, I think he is gonna be good.

Yes, we know he plays fast.  The guy called him a speedy WR.  He's not that.  That is all we are saying.  He is crisp, fluid and is sharp on his routes.  But speedy, by today's standards, he is not.  

Pre-snap movement will be key.  Which is something that our offense seems to like....at least that what's we think.  

What is speedy? Id say hes definitely at least running a low 4.4

I am not saying he is not fast enough, he is not upper echelon fast.  His route running in college made corners take false steps, negating their own speed.  You watch his highlights, this one for example this video, 53 second mark and 1:25 mark, the two long TD's against Ohio State, sure he looks fast, but somehow he ends up being covered by linebacker Tuf Borland, who ran a 4.98 and 4.99 40.  And its not like he is blowing by Borland and leaving him in his dust.

His top end speed looks good, from what I've seen.  He has the "longer, fluid" strides you want to see from WR's, imo.

He did not lose that speed.  He was playing slower because he was thinking too much and not just reacting.  When it becomes more natural, you will see the after burners put into use.

I couldnt stand the Reagor pick last year. I felt he was a late 2nd rounder at best. 

However the ONLY reason I think he can rebound to a serviceable WR is because of Nick's scheme which used a lot of crossing routes and creates separation for players like Reagor who cant get open himself. But he still was not worth the pick last year

yeah it is.

He isnt a tall WR, but he has long legs and a long stride. And he glides and it looks effortless like DeSean used to. Not saying he is DeSean fast but he has that easy speed. 

In his highlight videos theres a PR TD in which his speed is obvious. There are a few where you can see him run away from people.

He doesnt just have acceleration. He has acceleration and speed. Its hilarious that people began to question it.

I think he avoided any/all workouts to hide his weight as long as he could. Not at all to hide his speed. I think he had a great chance to be in the 4.3s. Definitely low 4.4s at worst.

Smith's value isn't in top end speed. It's in his ability to maintain quickness in and out of breaks, along with elite route running. Now, the negative spin is that since he is already a superb router runner, he doesn't have much upside. The positive spin is that his traits should translate.

I am a fan of the pick.

He didnt run a 40 because he would have been measured and weighed at the workout. You know he can run those times by watching him play. Its obvious.

When you factor in his route running and his acceleration, the dude is plenty fast enough to be a volume WR at the NFL level.

This is my favorite afan narrative.  It's Ok that Howie sucks in round 1-3, because he does so well with 6th and 7th round guys.

well... he wasnt thinking when he ran that disappointing 40 time. He sure seemed to lose it. Quite a bit of it. He was possibly neck and neck with Ruggs as the fastest WR in that class. He shoulda ran a low 4.3 on a bad day. He didnt even get a low 4.4, and then rarely looked fast on the field for us.

He added weight for the combine. Its pretty clear that slowed him down. I hope he trims down and starts burning again. He was DeSean Jackson fast in college. 

Has there been any GPS tracking data on Smith? I’m curious what his max mph was.
