Agreed. While I’m very happy that Howie actually stayed true to the board and took BPA, I do wonder since we gave up 84 to move up, how much more it would have cost us to move up to 8 or 9 to get one of the CBs. I wouldn’t have given up our 2nd but I wonder if 3rd+5th would have worked. 
 

I’m very excited to have Smith who I think is going to be the best receiver on the team, however I think the drop off in CB talent from PS2/Horn to Samuel/Joseph is much steeper than Smith to Marshall.

As for Chicago trade just how well did it work out for NYG? They have an extra 1st next season which is nice those 4th and 5th rounders are a big time crap shoot. Plus the Giants was wrecked in this draft forced to take a guy in Toney who might have been a second day pick. Kinda like what happened last year to the Eagles with Reagor instead of getting Lamb. 
 

 

I think the Niners pick changed everything for the Eagles and other teams. If they had gone Jones/Fields, then Lance would have been the great wild card floating from 7-10. A couple of teams may have been tempted to make a play for him.

There are indications and news reports that the Eagles wanted a CB at 12, but Surtain/Horn went much earlier than expected.

Having the Giants stay put and getting Smith is better than the Giants getting more picks and getting Toney.   It forced us to give up an extra pick for Smith, to Dallas no less, instead of trading down and getting more picks.  Based on our WR room, if Reagor develops, I think Bateman would be a better compliment to him than Smith.

Nope, the second the Panthers acquired Darnold that took them out of the QB race, and then Denver getting Bridgewater closed the deal.

One of them was going to take a corner, and Dallas was going to take the other.  Good thing Dallas got screwed by both of them being selected.

I have been saying it for a week.

I'll take Smith, there's no guarantee that the eagles get that same trade offer from bears and while it would be cool to have 4 first rounders sometimes less is more.

If Smith goes on a tear no one is going to say,I wish we had another 1st rounder.

Now if he sucks I'm sure the, we should have traded down to 20 crowd will be more than willing to frequently loudly voice their disdain.

I don't think it was a major reach.  I mean Leatherwood has better measurable in terms of arm length and athletic profile than the other 2 OTs that were ranked near him, Eichenberg and Teven Jenkins.  Darrisaw has better arm length but didn't participate in any of the measurement drills.  Leatherwood played well.  Could he have been available in the 2nd round? I think it's possible but it's not like that's a guarantee.  It's a position of value.  I think much is being made of it because of their selections last year.

Teams knew that they did not have to jump Denver and Carolina.  The day that Denver acquired Bridgewater, I posted a tweet that I agreed with that the run on CB's was going to start at 8, and Dallas may be left out in the cold.  Bears trading up to 10 was dumb, Dallas, NY, Philly, LA and Minnesota where not taking a QB.  The only teams that Chicago had to get ahead of was LV and Washington.  Could have traded up to 12, 14 or 16.

Yup I was shocked that the Bears would give up so much to trade up and draft a QB when as you say the teams ahead if them were highly unlikely to draft a qb.

Maybe Minnesota could have as all they got is cousins at 100 bazillion a year.

Yea the Bears schedule is killer. They could be a playoff team or pick top 5. Toney is a future replacement for Shep. He has concussion issues and Toney is more dynamic.
