Teams knew that they did not have to jump Denver and Carolina.  The day that Denver acquired Bridgewater, I posted a tweet that I agreed with that the run on CB's was going to start at 8, and Dallas may be left out in the cold.  Bears trading up to 10 was dumb, Dallas, NY, Philly, LA and Minnesota where not taking a QB.  The only teams that Chicago had to get ahead of was LV and Washington.  Could have traded up to 12, 14 or 16.

Yup, #14 was the logical place for the Bears to call -- but crafty Gettleman might have gotten on the phone and told Pace that the Pats or WFT offered a trade package; hard to verify after the fact

Fact is there is not a more clutch or big game player than Devonta Smith in this draft.

So we basically started with Wentz and a top-ten pick and ended up with Smith and two firsts in 2022.

I actually came out of last night with a lot more confidence in their "process."

1.  I feel much better about the Hurts issue.  No, I'm not saying Hurts will be a stud.  I'm only saying they are at least self-aware here.  The way Hurts was utilized and played last year was really bad...just a glorified running back.  If the Eagles thought Hurts the running back was the next big thing, they would not have kicked the tires on so many QB options this offseason (#2 overall, Wilson, Watson).  And if they wanted a running back running their offense, they would not invest TWO first round picks in 2 years (plus all the midrounders from last year) in the WR position.  They clearly WANT to build an unstoppable aerial attack.  So if Hurts doesn't show him he can be that guy, I am pretty confident they are not going to hesitate in making the change.  

2.  While Devonta Smith is not the prototype I always want at WR, separation is what matters most.  I happen to think 4.2 speed is one of the key ingredients, which cannot be taught, in separation...the fact remains that Smith might actually be one of, if not the best separation WR in NCAA history.  The commitment to Smith, in addition to Reagor, is a glorious departure from their years-long insistence on having a 6'2" immobile statue as the X WR.  If Reagor can find his NCAA speed/spark and learns to run all the routes, the combination of 2 outside WRs who can separate at 3 levels of the field and be moved around the offense is a requisite building block for an elite offense.  

3.  While I preferred Waddle's speed, it is tough to ignore that the net result for the last 2 years has been that Smith separates better at all 3 levels of the football field.

Pretty sure he saw everyone's best CB in the SEC and the SEC has NFL talent on their teams esp on defense. It's been their calling card for ever. Man played against elite comp in practice and apparently was beating them too

He's lined up against Stingley, who appears to be a consensus top 5 pick next year, and roasts him on a few plays. It's impressive.

Alot of the old head WRs love Smith. I'm gonna take their word for it

With Smith...I have to say, I've never seen a receiver beat CB's with the consistency and volume that he has.  His highlights on youtube are like full episodes.  Usually first round WR's get it all into a pretty tight 3:30 clip.  All the high end wideouts more or less flash the same type of separation and same type of big plays, but Smith just has like 15 minutes of it.

It's also hard to be upset about getting Smith and not Horn after watching the two of them head to head.

Everyone's best CB in the  NFC-E may be a downward adjustment in competition.

The thing is too, he didn't just beat him with one trick.

He beat him at the line of scrimmage.  He went up over him and caught the ball.  He flat out burned him deep.  

That's impressive no matter how you look at it.

The more it’s marinating the more I love the Smith pick. His videos are insane. Unless a CB can jam him, I don’t see how you can cover his routes. Best route runner I can remember.
