Hurts to me is a top tier backup/low end starter long term. His athleticism gives him a high floor and the ability to win you some games. But like you, I don't see a high end passer which is what you want in a long term starter.

Now with that said, he is supposedly a very hard worker. I'm willing to give him the  season to prove me wrong. But Howie did the smart thing in accumulating draft resources to make a trade next year if he isn't the guy. The good news is that our own draft pick should be high, so hopefully we don't need to trade the farm to get a passer.

The good 1,061 yards passing in 4 games playing time and 301 yds rushing, not too shabby

The bad 4 picks, 3 fumblruskies and 13 sacks, gotta do a better job there

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

When it comes to Landon Dickerson I get this thought in my head that the Eagles have drafted one player in the last 50+ picks who has gone to a Pro Bowl -- Carson Wentz.  With Dickerson you not only get a guy who can play C and play G at a high level, you get a guy who can be the captain of the OL.  The guy was more than respected on that Alabama team; he was an inspirational leader -- as a transfer.

DAL took Jaylon Smith in the 2nd round because their doctor performed the surgery on him and was confident his leg would recover.  I think it's possible Stoutland had some information on Dickerson that other teams don't have.  For a player who has the talent to make multiple Pro Bowls, I like taking a shot on him at #37.

One thing on Dickerson was his comments of shall I make the 10 hour drive now?  One, he can afford an air fare now, but was also willing to get to Philly ASAP and had looked how far it was to drive. Says a lot about him as a person

I’m feeling better about that pick

how about a 6'1'' QB from Liberty?

The draft suggests some interesting possibilities with Gannon’s D.   Suspect we see some 3/3/5, some Joker and some 4/2/5 where the four includes a DE that can cover in zone and a LB that can rush. I can see some real mind game formations as opposed to DBs dropping and giving the scheme away at the hint of motion like we saw the last two years.

Dennard Wilson has work cut out for him.  Note in the McPhearson interview that he talked about interviewing with Wilson and DK.  Good to see the assistant position coach involved.  So our CBs are Slay, McPhearson as starters and Maddox as the nickel with James as the depth?  Maybe Seymour or Jacquet?  Ouch.  Howie needs to get to skinning that cat.

Rather than quick to pull the trigger, I'd say it's quick to give him the damn job.

2nd round pick perceived as a reach, bad passer in 4 games, now he's a week 1 starting QB in the NFL.  I'd say giving the guy a shot is premature.

If Justin Fields or Mac Jones turn into elite QBs, it was a mistake not to draft them. I’m fine if they believed those 2 QBs aren’t better than Hurts.

Now that the draft has shaken out and I see how our roster currently stands, if I'm Howie, I'm picking up the phone and calling the agent for these three veteran free agents with the hopes of signing all three

1. Steven Nelson

2. Cre'von LeBlanc

3. Richard Rodgers

If he was a different QB in college and was just faster to take off last year because of a lack of experience, I might agree we are being too quick to judge.
but at this point, it is up to him to prove he is anyone other than what he has shown.

I keep looking at yesterday's selection, combined with out cap situation and next year's strong EDGE class, and thinking "when does the Barnett trade" happen. Teams may not have the cap room to get him, but once the season starts that becomes less an issue with each passing week and pass-rusher is always high on team's wish list.

You have to wonder what the Eagles actually think.  This was a weak DL class.  What did we load up on?  D-Line.  Next year, like you said, is a very strong Edge class.  Now we have the investment from this draft that they can't give up on in year 2 and that will then most likely force them to skip over top D-Line talent.

I do like Williams and Jackson.  I think they have potential.

I just never understand the Eagles though process when it comes to position groups of strength and weaknesses in seemingly every draft.  It's a sure thing that if there's a position of strength, the Eagles will ignore it.  Is this just a case of smartest man in the room syndrome that oozes down from the top?

With that being said, if Williams and Jackson become starters and Tuipulotu can become DT3/4 that's great.

I'm really wondering if we're going to be running some hybrid 4-3/3-4 defense.  In both Williams and Tuipulotu's scouting reports it talks about their strength playing in a 3-4.  Johnson was projected as a 3-4 OLB.  Our veterans who are more successful in a 4-3 (Cox, BG and potentially Barnett) are on their way out.  Where would Sweat fit in a 3-4 defense?  Will be interesting to see how all these pieces fit together for sure.

Of note:

Once the final roster is complete, the Eagles are very likely to have more players from Memphis than any other school.

They'll be walkin' with their feet 10 ft. off of Beale.............

Can’t believe Johnson fell so far to Broncos  , and they got Sterns my 2 favorite safeties

A lot of D-Backs on that list.  I REALLY wish the Eagles would have taken a chance on one of those safeties or another corner.

I also really like

Jaelon Darden's game.  He's a poor man's DJack/Tyreek Hill.  Clearly doesn't have that elite speed but I see bits and pieces of their game in him.

They are both unquestionably better than Hurts...especially Jones, who is clearly better than the QB that is clearly better than Hurts.  However, that doesn’t mean either of them are going to be good enough themselves.  And if they aren’t, it was reasonable to pass on them and run with Hurts (literally) for now.

I dont think they really loaded up on DL.

They got a potential starter at DT, and a rotational DT.

They drafted one roster bubble DE.

The other DE they drafted will be playing LB.

These arent really guys expected to be the future stars of the DL. I dont think any of these guys would preclude them from drafting a top prospect next year.

I remember when the Blog spent a few week defining "mobile".

I believe what we are discussing now is a running threat on called plays.

Rodgers and a younger Ben where more mobility in the pocket and the random scramble.

I look at Hurts as in between them and Lamaar so not gameplanned but opportunistic although 51 rushes in 4 games shouldn’t be the norm. He can learn more patience

The thing about this draft is that it was disciplined, they stuck to their draft board, reacted when needed, but never went off the reservation.

Howie miscalculated that only 3 QBs would be off the board, I think he saw Horn, Surtain, Smith and Waddle as equivalent, and that one would be available at #12. When he realized that wasn't unfolding the way he wanted, he was decisive, made the overpay to get the elite player. But the players taken around #84 aren't close to the value to the Eagles of getting an elite WR

How do you know what the draft board was to know if they stuck to it ??

And it was obvious the minute Denver acquired Bridgewater that both Corners would be gone by 10,   The first 10 players off the board were set a week ago.

Even if they think those guys are better, but not future top end starters, then I'm good on them passing.  Yeah you can win with an OK QB but the vast majority of the time teams who are successful are successful with stud QBs.  So unless they think they can get one I'm perfectly fine with them accumulating future picks and giving themselves a better shot at landing someone special in the future.

So give Hurts a year, give him a healthy OL and give him some weapons and see what happens.  Absolute worst case scenario?  He sucks, Miami is great and Wentz gets hurt so we end up with a high first late first and 2 seconds, and we have a young core at both OL and skill positions for the next guy. I'm totally OK with that worst case scenario.

I'm hopeful the Eagles don't need to draft a QB in 2022, but I like what I see from Tyler Shough.  6'5, 221 with a good arm, really good mobility -- runs like Lawrence but maybe even a bit faster.  Not sure why he's transferring from Oregon to Texas Tech, but with a strong season there he'll be a top 10-15 pick for sure.

More quick than fast , but still runs 4.4

The consensus was this was a strong WR and OL draft and we drafted one with each of our first 2 picks. The consensus was that it was a historically bad TE class...and we passed despite needing a TE. This was also considered a below-average DB class...and we only picked 1 DB (2 if you want to count Stevens).

We drafted 3 DL in RDs 6-7. I promise you that they will not matter at all if the right EDGE is available in RDs1-2 next year.

Yea, you're right.   It just seems like a lot when you think about nearly 45% of this years draft went towards d-lineman (despite position change)

Waaaaayyyyyyy to early.

You cant even rate the rookies yet since they have yet to throw a single pass in the NFL. I can't even rate Hurts yet since we have a brand new coach and scheme. Maybe throw this out there in another 2 years.
