I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

And what did they do in those playoffs? I think they only won a playoff game once and never made it past the divisional round.  Certainly weren't a prolific offense.  Mahomes comes in and they go to OT in AFC Title Game and two straight Super Bowls.

The year before Smith, the Chiefs had Cassell at QB and scored 212 and 211 points.

Smith then put up 430 points, in his five years as starter, 6, 16, 9, 13, 6 in points, with Mahomes 1, 5, 6. Smith made the pro bowl 3 of his 5 years at starter.

Smith wasn't good enough to get them over the hump, but he was pretty beat up when he got to KC and broken down at 34 when he went to Washington. Still showed what you can do if you have talent and a good scheme around a QB with a limited skill package.

He is an example where QBR is more revealing than the conventional QB rating system, 45.0, 51.7, 61.1, 60.8, 65.1 in those 5 KC seasons.

Smith was a former 1st round QB who had gone deep in the playoffs with the 49ers and deeper than he ever did with KC.  He wasn't a bad QB.  Fact is that the Chiefs were never an offensive juggernaut with Smith and had very limited playoff success during a tenure when they often saw the playoffs with Reid as HC.  Mahomes is the X factor there that has made that offense and team as great as it is.

I think it's funny.  In high school and college, me and my buddies couldn't wait until we could do drills, work out together and put the pads on. Granted it was D3 football but the point is we would have killed to have more time to practice, get plays in and do whatever we could do be the best football team possible.

I get that the NFL is a different ball game, the athletes, speed, impact and injury risk is higher than any of us ever experienced in our playing days but goodness do these guys just sound like the most entitled pu$$ies.

NFL minimum is $610,000.  Grow the F up and stop with this nonsense.

They could have used one of their late rounders on him and still have Gainwell.

I might be a cynic ......

but I thought the idea when you get a big money contract was to get a new improved girl?

The model chick looking for the guy with the big money contract comes with big money expectations and big money problems.

The cute college chick who dated you when you were a goofy oversized college kid is probably a hell of a lot less maintenance and a heck of a lot more loyal.

Dating the former is probably more fun, marrying the latter is probably more fun. Different lifestyle choices. JMO.

Landon's gf went with him from FSU to Alabama.  They've been practically married for years.  Good for him. Hope it works. I got married at 32 and happy it worked that way for me. Enjoyed my single 20s. To each their own.

Sproles was criminally overrated in the passing game during his time here.  He had a horrific catch radius and a really high percentage of his targets ended up hitting the turf.

I don’t think Gainwell has the pinball quickness of a prototypical 3rd down back, but his actual receiving skills and tracking ability befit a WR...better than the WRs we are used to in Philly, actually.

I smell wheel routes in his future

I was saying Sproles level player in so far as a role player who can make impact plays. Obviously there are size similarities, but play style and skills there are some differences.

The receiving skills are what makes him really interesting. In a sport moving towards "positionless football" a RB who can run routes and catch like a WR has a ton of value.

I gave out bad info in here about rookie minicamps. Apparently they are allowing on field work. Doesn’t jive with what the NFL put out about OTAs but I guess since it’s a smaller pool of players they are allowed to do more. Now let’s see if they show up.

People confuse OTAs with camp. OTAs are not a camp with on field drills. Its lifting weights in the weight room at the complex. Thats it.

Rookie mini-camp is different. As are the voluntary mini-camps. Those are actual football camps with football activities happening.

Westbrook 2.0

I just watched Kerryon Johnson highlights. I never paid attention to him in college, and dont recall much about any Lion's action Ive seen.

He looks like Ajayi running to me. He has a little better top end speed than Ajayi, but lacks acceleration. His yardage comes from nifty footwork and being large enough to run through arm tackles.

He doesnt look like a super athletic RB and shouldnt lose much due to injuries because he didnt have burst to begin with. He looks like he will be able to grind out yardage no matter what. But his biggest runs will top out around 20 yards or so.

He looks nothing like Westbrook.  Westbrook had a Barry Sanders like shake to him at times.  He would leave defenders that were two feet in front of him completely flat footed falling on their ass as he ran past after shaking their socks off.

I watch a lot of SEC and Auburn games specifically.  He HAD a burst at Auburn but he has build up speed.  He runs upright like Eric Dickerson (just comparing running styles, not saying he is the next ED).  He's a slasher.  I mentioned TJ Yeldon the other day and taking a flier on him.  I think Johnson is a very similar style of runner.  He has ability to make some spectacular cuts but it's usually just a foot in the ground and go, not a juke juke juke kind of run.  If his knees hold up, he could be a really good fit.

This is the 2nd highlight video Im looking at. All lions I assume from his early days where he averaged over 5 yards per carry. These are like carbon copies of Ajayi runs. Its exactly the same.

Hes a 1 speed runner. He doesnt maintain speed on cuts, and doesnt move very far on his cuts but he does enough nifty stuff to change the angle on would be tacklers so that they cant get a good hit on him.  Thats Ajayi to the T.

Nice description of BWest.  If Gainwell can be 2/3 of BWest as a 5th Round pick then that's a win.

Gotta love how he owned Kiko

Hope he works out. Hes a nice change of pace with Sanders. Sanders, Johnson, and Gainwell is a nice group. For the first time in a while, shouldnt have to carry 4. I think between Quez, Reagor, Smith, and Ward you can get kick and punt returns covered.

He looks like Demarco Murray to me, not here but with the cowboys, not quite as big but similar running style.

Hopefully he's got more heart than Demarco had here.

The guy should be the healthiest he's been in awhile. He has less miles than Howard too. Last year was a little tough though, I hope he still has more in the tank.

I heard Brady's statement and it was BS. Listen I appreciate that guys who play a lot get beat and rest is good for them.  They can not go to the voluntary camps, no problem. But a lot of guys didn't get to play that much and are trying to advance their careers.  Let them go to the camps.  This is vets bullying young guys

I'm kinda cute too, no?

I spared you a shirtless picture

That's a big ass stogie you're puffing on.  What is it?  I appreciate a good stogie now and then.  My BIL's family does the Italian 7 fish dinner on xmas eve and a couple times it's been at his and my sister's home and he has this one guy who married into the family who is big into cigars and good Whiskeys/Bourbons so we usually sit in the open garage and smoke stogies and drink good Whiskeys on xmas eve.  It's a nice combo, along with getting your face stuffed with seafood and pasta in red sauce beforehand.

Good waiver pickup.  If I ran a rebuilding team short on talent, the back end of my roster would be an open invitation disposal bin for disgraced 1st and 2nd round picks either released on their rookie deals or not re-signed at the end of them.

If you learn that they failed because of attitude/effort, cut them a month later.

Yup. By all accounts Johnson is a great teammate and is really good on third down. Injuries have cost him burst and athleticism, but he can be a perfectly acceptable role player who helps Gainwell learn the NFL ropes as he takes over that role in 2022.
