If it weren't for Miles Sanders, the 2019 draft has the potential to be an all-time dud.  If you combine the fact that 2017 you only have Barnett left (maybe just 1 more year) and possibly just Sanders from 2019 if Dillard doesn't pan out then you can put a lot of blame right there for where this team is.

I think even with Sanders it does. I mean look he's a RB who may not be here after 4 years. If that's the case then that is a real dud of a draft.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I think we need a lot more than 1 blue chipper.

yes, I think we're going to be QB purgatory for many years

Baker Mayfield is many years of qb purgatory.  We are in qb hell with the hope that Hurts elevates us to purgatory.

I believe with Hurts’ work ethic we see growth and I have little confidence in predicting 1st round NFL draft picks a year ahead of time. So much can happen.

Oh I think Hurts is definitely going to improve. I think he's going to have worked on his mechanics, his arm, his overall strength. He's going to have focused on reading defenses etc. His work ethic will absolutely make him a better player. The question is how much better and how good can he be.

Post your expectations for the role (not stats) of each draft pick in 2021...followed by the role for the 2nd year 2020 picks:

1. Smith.  #1 WR.

2. Dickerson.  First interior OL off the bench.  Will have >4 starts.

3. Williams.  Frequently used rotation piece at both DE and DT.  Logs comparable number of snaps to Sweat, and not far off Hargrave or Barnett.

4. Mcphearson.  Starting outside corner.

5. Gainwell.  Rotational RB.  Starts the season behind Scott, finishes ahead.  By the end of the year in the games that Sanders inevitably misses, he'll get most of the carries.

6. Tuipulotu.  Game day inactive all year until/if injuries give him a shot.

7. Tarron Jackson.  Needs to beat Ostman to make the roster.  Either practice squad or a seldom used rotational DE.

8. Stevens.  ST and, as the year progresses, will get real snaps as a LB.

9. Johnson.  Practice squad.

1. Reagor.  #2 WR (I hope).

2. Hurts.  Starting QB (refraining from comments).

3. Taylor. ST, sporadic snaps at LB.

4. Wallace.  Safety depth.

5. Driscoll.  Deep OL depth.  Mailata/Dillard off the bench first at OT, Dickerson off the bench first for iOL.

6. Hightower.  Inactive WR.

7. Bradley. ST, sporadic snaps at LB.

8. Watkins.  Hoping for WR3, but likely active, but seldom used WR depth.

9. Prince...already gone.

10. Toohill...already gone.

Not going to get much from 2020 outside of the 1st two picks.

Taylor needs to play. Really, all of the young guys need to play, but he’s one of them that needs it the most.

Players can only develop so much from the bench. We are rebuilding. Now is the time to play the young guys and let them make their mistakes on the field. Not saying it will be pretty, but this guy is all athleticism. The only way he’s going to become an NFL level LB is to play.

I agree with you completely...but a first year DC may not see it that way.  We added very little talent to the defense this offseason (it’s ok, things had to be prioritized).  We might have the worse back 7 in the nfl.

My point is that the DC may be very hesitant to go with an all athleticism LB who showed last year that he can barely play football.  A lower upside LB who tackles well and understands his assignments may get the nod so that things don’t get really ugly.

I don't know about that. Slay can be a top 10 CB and Harris can be a top 10 safety (if he can rediscover his form from 2019). I agree it is a bad secondary though.

He can only go up from where he was last year, let’s hope he gets some good coaching

How are we in QB hell? Either Hurts (who is on a rookie contract with very low cap hit) improves and plays to the level we need at QB or we have 3 1st round picks next year to trade for/draft replacement. We’re not in hell by a long shot.

Proof that Howie sucks at drafting.

Way too early to declare this draft a success but it looks to be his best draft in quite a while at face value. Hopefully he continues to work his board and not reach for needs next year too.

McLeod is injured. Wallace and Harris are your starters.

And Epps is the third S.  Epps and Wallace didn’t look that bad at the end of the year.    I do wonder if Riley takes a step up this year.  Word was he took to training well but I don’t know if he covers well enough. I thought Arnold looked like what he is, a quick but slow too small S.  Fine for the PS but not for the 53.

I won’t be surprised if Taylor or Wallace take a step up but I won’t be surprised if they don’t.  But none of them would be hurt by attending voluntary workouts and OTAs.  A better message from the union should be attend if you wish not the need for a unified lack of attendance.  Smith should realize how that looks to the rest of us.  Very few employed people get to take up to seven months off each year.  How many employers bless their employees with the opportunity to improve their capabilities with physical and mental training for a third of the year with state of the art equipment?  That’s why Driscoll built a gym in his carport.

So I get that the Eagles are bad, but why exactly are the Giants talking trash?  Did they get a new QB and OL when I wasn't looking?

Part of me wants the Eagles to stomp them so bad that they take out Hurts in the third and put in Newman to get him some playing time and he builds on the lead.

Hurts is nothing but an NFL backup and they need to suck next year and get a high pick to fix that situation. Tua going out game one and Miami tanking for them works too.

I believe if Hurts, with the same level college performance, had been in the 2021 draft, he would have been the second or third QB drafted.  Lawrence would have been first but I have doubts about Wilson or Lance being drafted before him.  I wasn’t a huge Hurts fan but I am not any more of a fan of Wilson, Lance, Shields or Mac Jones than him and liked him more than any of the second string group of QBs for 2021 too.

What better time to let him fail? Can easily move on if he doesnt as he wasnt your guy to begin with

I think wilson fields and lance all would have gone well before hurts

theres a reason he was a day three pick on most teams boards

Not sure why people are so quick to throw the towel in on Hurts.

Mcnabb ended his rookie season with 49% completion and. 60 passer rating and thx following season made the pro bowl.

Hurts had a 77 passer rating last year in 4 starts.

He'll be going into his first season as a starter and before he's even taken a snap fans are claiming he's hot trash before he's even had a chance, if after 4 games as a rookie without an oline no WRs and predictable offensive play calls one has already reached a conclusion I'd conclude one jumps to conclusions rather easily.

I'm willing to give hurts a shot with a new staff and an off-season as the starter under his belt before I draw any definitive conclusions.

I agree...from our perspective.

When a new coach sees the wheels falling off in front of him, he might go for the steadier option.

McNabb was a different generation, so not really fair.

The other issue...Hurts is a 2nd round pick, considered a reach by most, and has never been a pro style passer.  Lots of 2nd round picks never get the keys to the starting position just handed to them like this.

The conclusion jumping is the concept that Hurts might be a starting quality passer, not the concern of throwing in the towel early.

Most prospects like him never even get this opportunity.

Lol we essentially did them a favor and they're still being a baby about it. They should be thanking us

So beat up on a bad Eagles team? Lol oh well

If we happen to win one then that'd just look bad on them anyway lol

This time every year, I post that the biggest improvement or regression on every team comes from what you do or don't get from your 2nd year draft class.  The OL situation and Wentz overpowered that a bit last year, but the lack of help from the 2019 draft class played a big role:

1. Dillard.  Missed season/useless.

2. Sanders.  No better than rookie year.

3. JJAW.  Useless.

4. Miller.  Useless.

5. Thorson.  Useless/gone.

An entire draft class entered year 2 and did nothing to boost the team.  That's a huge reason they only won 4 games.

For 2021, the roster improvements (or lack thereof) will be from Hurts at the QB position and Reagor getting better.  The rest of the 2020 draft class really offers no possibility of making the team better.

It's all Douglas's fault and Howie is 100% absolved of all blame.

In nfl history, how many QBs 6’1” or shorter, with average or worse arms, drafted outside of round 1, passed poorly as rookies, and had a starting job handed to them in year 2?

Hurts is lucky to have this opportunity.  It’s not premature of them to pull the plug at any point.

Hurts seems to be a good dude. Seems like his teammates like him and that he's got a great work ethic. I respect that.

My issue with Hurts is that I don't feel his ceiling is very high and that despite all of the work he seemingly puts in, he will never be more than an average QB at best.

And you may well be right there. I think he's got a decent floor but yeah I'm not sure he's got a really high ceiling. But as you say he seems like a really good guy, his team mates seem to really like him and he's got the right attitude to learn.

DK Metcalf is going to run the 100M on TV tomorrow trying to qualify for the olympic trials. Needs 10.05 to qualify. Sprinters are saying they are going to demolish him. Will be interesting to compare NFL 4.33 speed to real sprinters.

May 9 starting at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC

Interesting. Going to watch. I think it'd be cool if he got in
