Defensive coaches 😕

Never going to work outside of what Saban and Belicheat? Maybe Pete Carroll was one i can’t remember.

I take it you're not one of the fans that has been wanting to see them get a defensive minded coach.  Lots of fans have been wanting that for a long time.

...out the door.  Is this about Wentz or finding & instilling a potent offensive identity? Press Taylor could likely be one of the factors for coach Doug’s ouster as the HC.

it was sarcasm, brother. Especially since it's reported that Doug suggesting Press Taylor as OC was one of the reasons he got canned.

Not with this current league trend,  no way.

Good I sure hope they don’t hire a DC before they hire a HC like they did with Schwartz and Pederson.  For the love of God hire a HC and let him fill out his staff.  So tired of the convoluted way this organization conducts business.

That's a huge issue. If the Eagles won't let a new HC choose his staff, they will never get a REAL HC- they will get another "Doug" yes man, who will get tired of this crap 3 years down the road. If they DO let a new HC choose his own staff- as most of the NFL FO's do, then there is a chance things start changing around here. It's THE issue I am looking at, to see what they actually do. What they do will tell the tale for years to come.

people said that about Bowles.  They're interviewing 3 minority coaches so far, plus Duce will get an interview making it 4.

Can we stop this dumb narrative now?  Lurie hired a black HC before the Rooney Rule and he is really into racial justice.  He said it was "top of his mind" to interview minority candidates.  Think about that what you want, but he's definitely not just checking a box for the Rooney Rule.  If anything, he's taking it to another level making sure to interview more minority coaches.

Yeah, that was a lazy comment on my part. I thought about my response after I said it. I just didn't get a chance to add more to it other then maybe they want to go the defensive route because I was at work. You are correct though it is a dumb narrative and I should know better then to think that way with Lurie as the owner

Roob's a Boob, I've never really liked him. NBC Sports Philly should have gotten rid of him and kept DGunn.

Rueb's a drunk who likes hanging in dive bars, listening to every garage band to grace a dive bar stage. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But disagree with him publicly- he will delete you and head to his next dive bar rock star experience.

Howie?

Gase??

I didn’t even do anything. I’ve never tweeted at him, or engaged him in any way. The only thing I can even remotely think of is that I got into it with Ike Reese once and he must have seen it. However I never got disrespectful with Ike...who did not block me.

The only thing I can think of was… My buddy corrected him when he was clearly wrong saying Levon Kirkland was on the field for Jurevicious’ long catch in the 2002 title game (Barry Gardner). Roob Proceeded to double down and say they were both on the field instead of admitting he was wrong and I liked the tweet… Talk about a fickle idiot

If he’s willing to concede power to Howie....

Howie?

He’s already in charge.

He's an interesting candidate.  He coached Joe Burrow at LSU, and is known for implementing the RPOs in NO.  He designed the plays they ran for Taysom Hill..  On the downside, as the OC for the panthers he didn't really do all that well. Panthers were not great on offense.  Could be a bright young mind.

Interesting that the Brady interview went under the radar with no reports of a request or leak that it was happening. With it also being one of/if not the first completed interview, makes me wonder if Eagles have him targeted as the guy.

My take on some of these other guys:

Bowles - they know him from when he was in Philly.  He was HC for the Jets and was not great there.  Uninspiring re-tread.  Pass.

Saleh - Interesting.  He's been around a lot of teams with great defenses, including the Niners superbowl run and the legion of boom.  Never had an HC job, but deserves one.  I like him.  Our D has been so bad for so long.

"Sleeping with" Bieniemy - Reid coaching tree.  Probably everyone's first choice.  He's not coming here.  I'd gladly hire him, though.

Duce - He's an Eagle, been here forever.  Uninspiring work as a HC.  Why has nobody ever picked him up to be an OC?  Normally if you're a hot assistant you get picked to be an OC for a season or two, then you become HC.  Why?  I know lots of former players like him, but I just wonder if we don't think he's great because he's Duce.

Jerod Mayo - Too young and inexperienced.  Bring him here to be a DC if you'd like.

My prefer (in order): Eric Bieniemy, Robert Saleh, Joe Brady, Duce, Jerod Mayo.

It could be that he's already gotten offers elsewhere and they're trying to talk to him before he takes another job.

While the offensive numbers in Carolina dont jump off the page, I'd argue he did very well given the circumstances.

He lost Christian McCaffrey for most of the year due to injury.

He was working with a very limited QB in Teddy Bridgewater.

Despite this, he still produced 4 different 1,000 yard players.

He's clearly a risk but he fits Lurie's wish for an innovative offensive coach.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind him coming here.  We need a good mind on offense if we are going to fix or even figure out if we want to keep Carson.

Love Brady as a candidate. Can't hold the Panthers offense from this year against him. No CMC for the basically the entire year and Bridgewater is an average at best starting QB in the league.

One thing is certain, they had better get an offensive head coach. If they go defense at head coach and have an OC who is even remotely good they will lose them within a year or two. For example, of they went Saleh with Lafleur at OC they probably wouldn't have him long. That's just the landscape of the league right now. Everyone is trying to find the next McVay/Shanahan.

I wouldn't be mad at Brady but he would have to have one hell of a plan. He's 32 years old, coaching men the same age as him. Holding players and coaches accountable who are fairly older than you may be tough if not handled the right way.

But honestly Brady's first year would likely be a HUGE learning experience but it also fits our current state of the team. We don't know who is QB, don't have a lot of $$ to spend, desperately need young players and will likely be lucky to win 6-7 games next year, with a below average division.

This team needs a new identity.

I think the Panthers did much better on offense last season then expected when you consider that McCaffery was out most of the year and I honestly don't think very highly of Check Down Teddy at QB.

Agreed. Defensive coaches just aren't sought after like they used to.

I think Brady is an under the radar hire for us, it's swinging for the fences but I think Lurie has shown that he isn't afraid to take risks.

As soon as we got rid of Doug we reportedly immediately got Lincoln Riley on the phone, I think Lurie wants a young offensive mind to try and salvage Wentz.

I think Riley is the ONLY candidate that Howie respects and will perhaps listen to during the draft. they sure as h888 didn't respect doug.

Supposedly Riley is out of the search, he's staying at Oklahoma.

In other words... Not interested in the Eagles job. Damn.
