We have 3 CBS from that last draft.  Which is weird since they're all late rounders.

McPherson

Gowan

Vincent

And McCain

Weird trade. We probably should have drafted Gowan and Vincent if we wanted young CBs that badly.

We now have three small slot corners on the roster — trading a pair of sixes for Vincent/Scott.

Howie is operating at a level you will never understand.

Lol

So that's 3 CBs from the draft, and we also traded for Scott too. Are the Coaches trying to create a Franken CB?

This is the plan, I think.

Weird trade aside, it does make sense to spend a late pick on a cheap corner with three years of team control. Gives the Eagles a half a season to figure out if he’s a piece for next year.

Toth cut might be more strange. Why is Opeta ahead of him? He stinks.

But we have a good slot CB who's having a very good year. I'm not saying depth isn't important but... Draft capital for a depth guy? Strange.

It sounds like somebody who they'll work with and see if he's worth developing. His strengths quoted above seem to offer possibilities. He seems fast and agile, sounds like he needs coaching.

Where does Mac Mclain fit into this?  Still putting his shoes on in the locker room?

I've never understood the Opeta obsession that Stoutland has.  Toth offers position flexibility, Opeta just kind of sucks

Add in Josiah Scott and Andre Chachere and there is Howie's investment in CB.  I posted earlier but if you look at how the Eagles have invested at CB in recent years, this is totally in line with what Howie Roseman does and what he considers young talent.

Zech McPhearson, 23- 2021 4th round pick

Josiah Scott, 22- 2023 6th round pick and Jameson Houston

Tay Gowan, 23- Zach Ertz

Kary Vincent, 22 - 2022 6th round pick

Andre Chachere, 25 - 2021 waiver claim

You can't get rid of Slay with his contract, so you have him for at least another year, possibly 2.  He was the biggest investment at CB with a 3rd and 5th.  I really think Howie wants all of the 1st round picks to trade for  QB so by this minimal investment in young CB, he can argue he doesn't need to draft a round 1 CB.

Pigeons can be mostly white.  It's probably a pigeon.

Looks like a homing pigeon and given it is banded, that is a high likelihood.

Or maybe he dropped because

Weaknesses
  • Coverage can be loose and undisciplined at times.
  • Relies on athletic ability over technique.
  • Gets too grabby at the top of the route.
  • Pattern recognition is underdeveloped and needs work.
  • Ball instincts are below average.
  • Struggles finding football and establishing position downfield.
  • Panics with his back to the ball.
  • Needs better-timed attacks on the football.
  • Takes some poor angles as a tackler.
  • Stays wired to perimeter blocks and out of the process in run support.

Sounds like a good fit.

Kary Vincent Jr. has potential to grow into a starting NCB role.

Does this move imply that they will eventually move on from Avonte Maddox?

Hope not. Maddox has played well this year and earned a second contract.

He's coming to the wrong team then... 😃

You can argue that aside from Hargrave, who has really cooled off and Josh Sweat, that Maddox has been their best player on defense.  They traded for Josiah Scott, who is an exact clone of Maddox and now Vincent, who has a similar build but much more athletic.  So either they want great depth at the NCB or they see Vincent and Scott as outside CB.

They did it last year too with NRC.  Maddox has proven to be a very good NCB but they decided to bring in another.  Credit to Maddox for just doing anything he's asked while it appears they continually want to bring in a replacement or competition for him.

Who needs to spend a dollar, when you can just throw 2 nickels and 4 pennies at the problem?

Did you forget Slay?

It's cute how you think there is a plan...

We spent a dollar and people complained about it.

Yes, I did.

Spent two dollars for a guy that was worth one fifty.  Trade and extension... that's expensive for a guy that's not going to be good when the rest of the team is (if it ever is).  But, yeah, let's bring in more 30 year olds at top dollar.

His contract was good. At some point people will stop arguing it and just acknowledge it.

Was a fan of Vincent jr in the draft so i am ok with it for late 6

Eagles got my guy Togiai and your guy Vincent. Look at us!

CBs don't grow on trees. The best ones aren't going to hit free agency. If you can trade for one for just a 3, you do it, even if it means you have to pay him.

The contract was manageable anyway.

What's the alternative to making the Slay trade? Rolling out Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox again?

You can nitpick all you want. When a potential top player at a premier position becomes available, you stretch the "rulebook" a little bit to get one.
