I suspect there's more to the Wentz saga than we know. Your take seems plausible. The "OMG you drafted another quarterback high I want to be traded!!!" narrative seems simplistic and probably wrong.

It's a pile of reasons and mistakes. Some of it being Wentz, he's not totally innocent here. But it's mostly Howie/Lurie. They undermined the HC, made him fire the coaches he wanted a day after saying to the media they were staying, and then brought in a clown car of 10 different guys who all wanted to do different things which led to a ish offense with no identity, during a pandemic with no offseason to do anything. Then pulled their crap in the draft.

I'm so over this team, I think I might buy tickets to the Eastern Conference Finals for the CFL this Sunday here. I hate the CFL.

Certainly Wentz is not without fault in this whole mess.  I do wonder just how much input 'Lowie' had in creating the mess that was the 2020 season.

I take what he told Pat McAfee at face value.  Howie said when he called Wentz to warn him they might draft Hurts it was a "tough conversation", so obviously Wentz didn't feel warm and fuzzy about it.  Wentz says when he was benched vs Green Bay is when he knew his time was done here.  That doesn't mean he threw a tantrum at being benched -- it means he understood the organization no longer 'had his back'.  He also said he "trusted the pick" (I assume this means in how Howie sold it to him).

The fact is Doug was going to move forward in 2021 with Hurts at QB -- Aikman said he was told by Doug, and Brett Favre said that version was correct.  Wentz wanted a guaranteed #1 job and the Eagles were not prepared to offer him that.  Sirianni spoke with Wentz a couple of times when he was first hired; I think it's likely he didn't take sides and commit to Wentz he'd be #1.

Why the Heck would they give Wentz that huge extension then?

If the above is true then Howie needs to be fired yesterday, I'm guessing that won't happen though because Lurie was in on the crap show as well.

I mean, I feel like we skip over an important point here. When they hired Sirianni, we all assumed they basically went and got Reich-lite to try and get Carson back on track. Now, I'll say that Sirianni's stock has gone up a lot in my eyes over the last month -- he's basically finding a way to stay competitive without an NFL QB. But how do you hire NS and not tie that to trying to bring Carson back? The day they hired NS I figured they were trading Hurts for peanuts and 2021 was all about rebuilding Wentz. If that wasn't the plan...what the hell?

Feels like we've been operating with no long-term strategy since 2/5/18.

This will never happen, but I'd like to see Hurts play against the Jets, and then, during the bye week, let's get Minshew in there. I want to see what NS can do with a different QB. The more I watch the play designs, the more I like what I see.

So I dropped the ball on the predictions this week and screwed some of them up. You gotta take the heat...this is for me to take ownership. It was uncharacteristic of me to have those drops. I gotta put myself in a better position to succeed.

Anyway, prediction winner goes to @greend with a prediction of 15 - 17 Giants.

Bonus prediction winners:

@BigEFly No Slay TD

@FranklinFldEBUpper Eagles D no more than one sack

@Green_Guinness Eagles 175+ yards rushing

@jamiller Reagor has a return to the 38 (although this was benefited by a punt that landed at the 32)

@RememberTheKoy Scott TD

Carson Wentz has one more win and plays the jags and Texans every week. Come on man

Wentz's agent handled all communication with the club after the end of the season.  It's quite possible Sirianni is the only one who actually spoke with him, right after he was hired.  I think Sirianni took the job under the impression Wentz would be the starting QB, though I doubt he refuses the offer if he knows it's Hurts -- it is an NFL head coaching job, after all.

I differ with most on here in that I believe Sirianni will be the one to make the final decision on Hurts after the season.  If he says he needs a new QB to run the offense I think the Eagles get a new QB.

Lol can you please expand on this thought? Do you think Hurts is equal/better/worse than Wentz? Do you think we'd have the same record with Wentz, all other things being the same?

I was dumbstruck when that pick was announced. I thought we had Jefferson. He fell right into our lap. And Howie took a pass.......

Nah, he took a crap.

No both suck and one is free till we get a real one is the point.

Yes same record we don’t have John Taylor

I really wish I could think this way too......but it seems more and more apparent that it's the Lowie show, and everybody else is just along for the ride. If there was a sports book I could get odds on Wilson being our QB next year, I think I'd put some money down.

Giants also clocked him a few times on handoffs because he delays so long on some of these options. A few times they took some pot shots well beyond the handoff. I expect more of that going forward.

Absolutely. It's gotta be a major factor in the evaluation.

I don't agree with the bolded. I buy the report that Howie sold Sirianni during the interview phase that Wentz would be here. Sirianni and Steichen both said they spoke to him and tried to sell it to him to stay. But it was too little too late by then for Wentz. Sirianni and Steichen both said on record they have no experience with a RPO offense. The type of offense they wanted to run suits Wentz, it doesn't fit Hurts at all.

Nope. The mental mistakes he makes are things that pop warner kids don't do. He's been playing football long enough to know you don't throw the f$%#^!^ing ball away when it's 4th down and you're in the red zone. Force a pass, worst case is it's picked off, but who cares. A throwaway is just insane. This week, with 8 seconds left, like i said, you have two choices, throw away or throw to an open guy. It's actually a really easy play for the QB. One read, if he's open, throw it. If he's not, throw it away. Instead he throws a pick. Ridiculous. He has no football IQ.

Has anyone else noticed that when Hurts is sitting on the bench after a series that he is never looking at video/pictures of the defensive schemes.  He is usually sitting alone.  I have seen him talking to his QB coach on occasion but even that is rare.

Lol he wouldn't be able to understand what he's looking at anyway, so why bother?

Didinger is a full on squirter. The other week he was on someone's pod and they asked him "How do you evaluate Jalen Hurts season so far?" His response was "well, you have to throw away everything from Weeks 1 to 7". I can't take anything from him seriously after that.

Oh... so he's a rookie again.   And now he's only making like his 6th start or so?

That will happen when you let the ball go through your hands and hit you in the face!

Wentz is so good we got a conditional 1 for his excellence with no other competition to at least make it a full 1.

and yes Hurts sucks but he don’t cost 150 million
