Overpay for an older safety. Great. There is no plan. They lost out on the younger guys already and blew it. You don't go and overpay for an aging player now.

If the plan isn't to resign McLeod and they want a vet to play in 2 high S and pair with a day 2 rookie, Epps and/or Wallace...you can't do any better than Mathieu. He's still one of the top S in the league and is a great leader on D.

Oh good to know. I will have to let my kids watch tonight. And keep track. They know Cena and the Rock from movies, and I have showed my older son some highlights of cena, the rock, and Stone Cold. Dont really know anything about the storylines these days. We will have to get a little familiar with it.

Lesnar and Roman Reigns have a match at WM.  Reigns is from the old Samoan families like Afa and Sika.
If you get a chance to smack Lesnar across the mouth and take it, make sure it’s on video.

Btw, check out his NFL workout numbers, and remember the day of that workout,  he borrowed snips to cut the wires holding his jaw together because of a recent motorcycle crash, he also had a pulled groin and a fractured left hand.  He ran a 4.7, 40.  Dude was 6’3” 283 lbs and had a 35” vertical.

I think its smart.  Houston just had to pay him for a lost season.

How is that help Carolina whatsoever? You are giving up 3 first round picks and then some and you are afraid to guarantee a 3rd and 4th year? He is going to be there for at least 4-5 years minimum. So them guaranteeing Sam darnold for 2 years was acceptable in that trade and had proven far less? Think about that for a second. They were committed to Sam Darnold for at least two years with the guaranteed money and he had been crap with the jets. But yet Deshaun Watson a top 10 quarterback they’re willing to give up even more assets then they did with darnold. If I am in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes I’m expecting him to be my quarterback for the next at least half decade.

No, he may not be there 4-5 years.  What if Rhule is fired and they hire a coach without his input?  What if he thinks they aren't doing enough to help him?  He is not a safe bet to stay.

McLoud shouldn't be brought back either. I just think they missed the boat on the younger talented crop of safeties this free agency period. Mathieu can play still but he will be 30 before the season starts. He will want serious money too. I don't know, I thought younger free agents that we can build with would've been the best bet.

We released Jenkins at the end of his 32 year old season. If we sign Mathieu to a 3 year deal, he'd be at the end of his 32 year old season. Dawk left when he was 34.

If Watson is smart he'd go to the Saints.  But most likely, he isnt.

Between Falcons and Saints I'd agree. I just don't understand why those 2 teams made the final 2

Mathieu is still really, really good. Of course, all depends on price.

Really? Thought he was kind of overrated

I agree. I'd have wanted Reid, but he went to arguably the best team in the league. Can't blame him there. And Williams I'm bummed about, but he went to a place with a rich rich history of amazing S play. Not shocked there either. Mathieu is still very very good, and a 3 year deal puts him at 32 at the end of it. Not over the hill for good safeties.

 Definitely a top 5 S heading into this coming year. Extremely smart player, good leader...I've been a fan of his for a long time. Would love to see him here for 2-3 years.

Yeah but they were already here and established and on good teams. I don't feel like this team is good and needs to rebuild with younger players. And what is he getting paid? I would guess easily 12 mil a year

it’s the owner that is pushing it. This wasn’t the head coach as the driving force for watson. This was their owner. Yeah there was also a report out there that he would allow Deshaun Watson to be part of who they hire as the next head coach if Matt Rhule didn’t work out. I’m guessing their owner would get a head coach that wanted Watson and not hire a head coach that didn’t want him if that came to be. Especially not when you’re going to be at a deficit of picks for at least three years.

this is the rumor i was talking about with tepper and watson. So if you are allowing him to pick the next HC he’s very likely to be there in year 3 and 4

Mathieu is a major upgrade at S over McLeod/Harris.

Ryan is actually quite affordable. 16M in 2022, 21M in 2023. No Guaranteed money left in his deal.

If Matt Ryan was cut maybe. Even then highly doubtful. Trading for him? No chance.

If the philosophy is we don't like the offensive style with Hurts and want more of a pocket passer as a bridge while a 2022 or 2023 rookie develops, I'd just stick with Minshew.

I'd do this and draft a project QB. Would make a lot of sense. But holy crap I would hate every minute of watching Matt Ryan play for this team.

Agreed, that would be more palatable. I have no interest in sending them picks for him.

Only issue is Ryan saw a big decline in 2021 as compared to the previous years. Maybe it’s their oline and lack of weapons outside of pitts, Patterson (Ridley missed most of the year). However he could just be nearing the end.

I was thinking about that.  Atlanta gets Deshaun.  We trade Hurts to N.O. or Houston...We trade for Matt Ryan and draft Malik Willis.
