They developed because in each year their targets went up. Marquise Brown isn't all that good anyway. Andrews was awarded All Pro status because they fed him the ball and he's a monster. AJ Brown is good, but often hurt, and they fed him the ball more than Smith.

MOVING FORWARD, the shared concern is that Hurts will not improve his passing, because he's hit his ceiling. Thus, Smith's targets will remain the same, or, if we have to stick to the running attack, his targets will actually decrease to 5 per game. That's the worry. 

Thomas Booker, a DT who I think we should all have our eye on did 31 reps on the bench at his pro day.

Hurts at 24, with one year of starting, has zero upside, but Minshew, who has drawn zero attention in a league dying to find starting QBs, should start ahead of him.

There were rumors of teams being interested in Minshew actually.

And for passing stats, Minshew is actually a better passer than Hurts. Why not give him a shot to see if he can improve? Or only Hurts is granted that chance because....reasons?

None of those players were fed the ball more than Smith as a rookie. There's no logical reason whatsoever that that a 23 year old QB that just finished his first season as starter has hit his ceiling. If it's a shared concern in this blog that just goes to show the ignorance of this echo chamber.

I think your assumptions are at the heart of the disagreement. 
 

I don’t expect anything of the sort.   It should be reasonable to expect but I don’t with Hurts. 

Do the Falcons think they’re getting a 1st round pick for Matt Ryan?

If you look at the other Oklahoma QBs who went #1, all had at least one season to learn the offense before they excelled.

I don't know what Hurts' ceiling actually is, but I'd be shocked if he can't improve to some extent. How much? That remains to be seen.

Let's not forget, Smith is a talented WR, but last season he was still a rookie, and one who had a bigger adjustment to the NFL b/c he had to deal with tighter coverage (and learning to compensate for his physical limitations). There were games he disappeared that had nothing to do with Hurts. Same with Watkins, who is a work in progress. And let's not talk about Reagor/Ward/JJAW as your third option.  At TE, \Goedert was a big target, but when Ertz left, teams ignored Stoll. Nor did the RBs help much, Gainwell was a rookie, Sanders lost his hands, Scott isn't Westbrook as a midget RB receiver.

Jalen Hurts will never win an NFL playoff game with his arm. He may be part of a win due to a running game and good defense, but he will never be the sole reason they win a game.

No one has expressed real interest in Minshew as a starter, i.e., offer anything of value. If teams thought he had starter potential, they'd be calling Howie offering second day picks.

Detroit is one of the worst franchises in sports history, maybe the worst. Nobody wins there. Was Calvin Johnson not good because he couldn't win there? Barry Sanders?
