surely. its paying to derisk. but is a second WR really that essential to building the team? opinions will vary wildly, but i think Smitty is more than capable of being that #1

it does seem obvious they are setting the stage to add the qb next draft

I would agree that WR is often a position that is sequentially best added later.  However I don't think of it in terms of WR1, WR2 etc. it is more complimentary skill sets.

I think now they have a top level X to go with a top level Z receiver.  Brown was an excellent complimentary fit.

I also agree, they are setting up to give themselves a chance at getting a real QB next year.  It's a long shot, though of course it is every year.  They tried hard this year, but ultimately were not attractive to any of the available veteran options that moved teams.  Maybe if the rest of the team is much improved, a different opportunity arises, or best case they get a chance to draft a blue chip QB prospect.

Saints need to go 3-14 for us...

I like the Davis pick. Just not how we traded 3 picks to move up 2 spots

It was three day 3 picks. I had been speculating 101 and next year’s 3rd to jump to 13. The actual trade was much better than I thought.

I truly believe we tried to move up to get Jameson Williams got burnt, and made a panic pick with Jordan Davis

And you are 100% incorrect.  If you would use the technology at your disposal ( Twitter ), you would have known the Williams to Detroit selection was announced 4 minutes before the Eagles traded up.  It was also mentioned several times on the telecast that the team on the clock is notified who the selection before them is when they go on the clock.

It is quite clear that Davis was the Eagles target, and the Ravens were going to take him if the Eagles did not trade up.

edited to add ( thanks @Outlaw ) they had the AJ Brown deal done well before the draft, so there was no need to draft a WR.  Do you really think they made the trade, and then negotiated the new contract that quickly ??

Lol Tannehill should've been part of the trade.

i get the shots at howie for needing to make the move he did for brown, but overall i am very happy with the first round. go get another defensive piece tonight and go from there.

keep in mind they have two 1st round picks again next season.

Think about the trade up from #15 to #13, we gave up #124, #162, and #166.  Why didn't they use #101, which is of similar value?

Because they had already agreed to terms with the Titans to use #101 in the Brown trade.

100%. Davis was the target. The Eagles knew the Brown deal was basically done far longer than just last night. Williams was never coming here.

I think was pretty close to the chart value, yes?

Yes. I think we had the 3rd best night 1 behind the Jets and the Lions.

regardless, I dont like it lol

Just read an article that suggests (from  Howie) that they were negotiating the contract during the draft so maybe if Williams is available they don't make the trade...

My gut feeling tells me Brown will be Alshon part 2 but without the Super Bowl

Apparently complaints from fans have already started, Brown has bad knees and cant finish a season consistently.

This team needs more Jalens.

Jalen Pitre in Round 2

Jalyn Armour-Davis in Round 3

The team needs less Jalens tbh

You always bring up Wentz?  What in the world does that have to do with Harden coming up short in the postseason and being well past his prime?

You’re starting to get a little worked up bud.  Simmer down now.

You throw little comments saying he won’t be my friend but I have told you time and time again, I don’t care about the player. I care about the sum of all the parts.

I mentioned Wentz as proof that you are accusing me of doing what you actually do.

Maxey is one of my favorite athletes in Philly right now. If someone told me we could trade him for a couple guys next year and it would bring us a championship, I’m shipping him out immediately.

When I am explaining my points, I am getting all riled up? You know when I’m mad lol, there is no denying it.

I wonder what my reaction would’ve as a HOU fan, when they traded back 2 spots leaving Hamilton to be selected by us/BAL… not very happy and I like Kenyon Green.

Would we have been better off staying at #15 / #18, keeping all our picks, and selecting Hamilton and Burks?

There are players like Jermaine Johnson, Kenyon Green, Johan Dotson and Garrett Wilson in every draft.

Jordan Davis is legitimately a generational prospect. He might bust, and there is risk, but this is the type of player you swing on.

To recap the resources allocated to WR over the past 4 years:

2022 – 1st round pick + 3rd round pick + $100m contract

2021 – 1st round pick + 3rd round pick to trade up

2020 – 1st round pick, 5th round pick, 6th round pick

2019 – 2nd round pick

By the start of the season, all those resources will likely end up amounting to only Brown, Smith and Watkins and a fairly significant cap hold. That's an awful use of resources and a complete indictment on Howie. Howie looks like he's playing fantasy football.

Yea if they have any sense they'll be happy. Gotta protect Mills and Green has elite potential imo.

Every pick counts. Tyreek Hill a 5th rounder. Mailata in 7th round. Brady pick 199

Eagles were going DL. I said for a month leading up to the draft they were going DL/WR. I kinda wanted DE but I’m happy with the pick. Davis has tremendous upside

No.. Because Howie wouldn't pick Hamilton against better judgement. Burks idk,  i believe the Brown trade is a way for Nick and Howie to evaluate Hurts and secure a top 10 WR in the process.
