Cool. Still don’t have a QB at the very least as talented as Wentz

Wentz still doesnt have a playoff win and wont be getting one this year either. Maybe his immense talent will allow him to get one in year 8.

Our top 3 receivers last year, the average was 797 yards.

Our top 4 receivers last year, the average was 673 yards.

The only way to keep AJ, Devonta and Goedert happy is passing the ball.  If you want AJ to have 1000, Devonta not to take a step back, and Goedert to get his, that is already 3700 yards.  Then you have Quez, the backs, other receivers and TE's, need 4000 passing yards at a minimum.

Thats under the assumption the ball is spread evenly. That’s never the case with a star WR like AJ. It was more even last year because we didn’t have a guy line that. We will chalk up plays every game to make sure he gets the ball.

The Cardinals are an apt comparison here. In Kyler’s second year, they went out and traded for Deandre Hopkins. In 2020 Kyler only threw for 3700 yards, yet Hopkins had a whopping 1400 yards of it. No other receiver even had 650 yards, and only 1 guy had over 500. Larry Fitzgerald, Andy Isabella, Christian Kirk, Dan Arnold, Kenyon Drake… they had some talent there. They didn’t suddenly change the offense away from what they were doing to benefit from Kyler’s strengths, Deandre’s presence just manipulated how defenses played them that much.

Now AJ is not Deandre Hopkins, but we will see a smaller version of this change take place. Hurts’ passing yards will go up, the total yards of everyone not AJ Brown will either stand Pat or go down a bit, and as long as he plays 15+ games, he will get more yards than his best season in Tennessee.

Funny man. I'd rather wait for a cold day in hell.

Ryan Tannehill's best season with Brown was 2020.  AJ Brown had 1075 yards and 11 TD's, Corey Davis had 984 yards and 5 TD's, Jonnu Smith had 448 yards and 8 TD's  Do you think Dallas Goedert would be happy with 448 yards ??  If we add 300 to that, gotta take it from the #2 WR, do you think Devonta would be happy with 684 yards ??  To get these numbers, Tannehill passed for 3819 yards and 33 TD's vs 7 interceptions.

It’ll be up a little bit as comparing 16 games to 17, but the likely difference is we won’t have a second dude with 950 yards unless Hurts throws for a ton. Corey Davis had that many because Tannehill didn’t have alternate options as strong as Goedert, as Sanders out of the back field, even as Watkins.

I think these two tweets perfectly illustrate the disconnect between the fanbase on Hurts. Im sorry but you cannot sweet talk your way into me believing you're a great QB. It's easy to buy into Hurts when there are no games are being played.

That's a great example.  There are a 2 other types of Hurts fans

The anti-Wentz crowd

The swag crowd

So I will continue to use Ryan Tannehill as the comparison.  His highest yardage total was 2015, and he had stronger alternative options.

Tannehill had 4208 yards.

Jarvis Landry had 1157 yards ( AJ Brown )

Rishard Mathews had 662 yards ( Devonta )

DeVante Parker had 440 yards ( Dallas Goedert )

Kenny Stills had 440 yards ( Quez )

If Brown does not dominate the ball, he will probably not be happy.  If the rest of the receivers are getting the above numbers, they will not be happy.

4000 yards is the minimum for Hurts, and that is probably not enough to keep our top 3 happy.

What do you mean by "dominate the ball.” AJ’s best season ever was 1000 yards. Is that dominating the ball, or are you saying he was not happy with his touches in TEN?

Yes, and what it is, is a fact. Howie gets kudos for salvaging it sure, but he created it as well.

Any pick is going to be a projection but the team will know what they have in Hurts next season.  If he's not significantly more efficient as a passer, he's never going to be an elite QB.  The team will have to make a decision and the question is whether any of those players gives them a better chance.  Nothing is certain with any prospect.

Plus, Hurts is going into Year 3 -- not Year 2.  Folks are going to have to come to terms with the reality that Hurts will be expecting a substantial pay raise after this coming season.  There is no 5th year option on Hurts; he wasn't a first round pick.  Hurts is going into Year 3 of a 4-year contract.  Players don't wait until after their contracts expire to demand their mega extension -- Murray, Deebo, AJ Brown are proof of that.

How much money will he be expecting?  My bet is he'll be asking for $35M+ with even nominal improvement this season.

But but but "mUh cAp HiT". Seriously though, Howie has been really good the last two years. He said 2020 was a wakeup call and his actions have backed that up. If/when he finds a QB, the Sky's the limit for this team

Never said it wasnt. You think Howie knew Wentz would completely fold after the Hurts pick? When the pats drafted Jimmy G in the 2nd rd, Brady went out and won another Super Bowl. When the Packers drafted Jordan Love in the 1st rd, Rodgers went out and won back to back MVP's. When the 9ers mortgaged the future to draft Trey Lance, Jimmy G led them to the NFC championship. When the eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in the 2nd rd, Wentz played like the worst f*%king QB in the league. Howie moved on and the team will be better for it, cap hit be damned.

His best season was 1075 yards, and that was 14 games.  Across 17 games that would be 1305 yards.

Applying that to our receiving numbers from last year, where is all the extra yardage coming from for Brown, and the #2 and #3 WR's ??

Well, some will come with an additional 17th game. Some will come with the hypothesized healthy season from AJ, and a projected bump in Hurts’ production having better weapons around him.

it may not end up being 1305, but it will be a bit better than 1075 in that scenario

Not defending Wentz as he played like hot garbage, but, did those other QB's have a different starting O Line combo every week ?? Did those QB's have offensive lineman stopping mid play to fix their equipment ??  Did those teams have the equivalent of Greg Ward and Travis Fulgham as their leading WR's ??  Did those QB's have a coach whose QB was struggling, and his solution was to go on a 4 game stretch of a 25:75 run pass ratio ??

Once again, Wentz played like hot garbage, but the front office and coaching staff did absolutely nothing to help him.  Jalen Hurts got Devonta Smith, he got a massive upgrade up front in Landon Dickerson, the coaching staff went run heavy when he was struggling.  It is almost like they had a secret meeting every week and tried to find new and creative ways to screw Wentz over.

The Eagles were 14th in yards per game and 12th in points per game last season.  The expectation this season will be top 6-8 when considering the investment that has been put into the offensive personnel for this year.

The expectations for the defense will be measured against how they perform against playoff-caliber teams.  They did fine last season against the also-rans, but good offenses dominated the Eagles defense.

For the team, the expectation IMO will be 11 wins, compete for (if not win) the division and at least one playoff win.

The mental gymnastics people will try to make here when Hurts has a great season will be fun to watch.

What? Adding AJ Brown makes the expectation top 6-8?  Maybe the unrealistic expectation.

To get within the top 10 would be a more reasonable expectation.

Look man i dont feel like arguing about Carson damn Wentz. He's long gone. I just wanted to post a positive tweet about the moves Howie has been making and folks made it about wentz and the cap hit. At the end of the day, the eagles cap hit doesnt affect a soul on this board so i dont understand why you guys obsess over it. But to answer your questions, no wentz didnt have an ideal situation in 2020. Still doesnt excuse the way he played. Moving on.

Yes I get that 17th game thing with Brown, but our team played 17 games last year, again, the top 3 WR's were

Devonta - 916 yards

Goedert - 830 yards

Quez - 647 yards.

So if AJ had 1100 yards, were are those other 200 yards coming from ??  Our QB's passed for 3583 combined yards last year.  The only way for AJ to be 1000+, the QB's need to pass for 4000 yards at a minimum.

Goedert got paid, most of the time players are unhappy, it's because they're approaching their contract year and it hurts their negotiating position.

Once paid, only the egomaniacs obsess over stats, the character players focus on winning.
