Monday at 11:00 PM2 days Get why schwarber is out with illness. Why do we have marsh out against lodolo who has a near 9 era even if he’s LHP. At this point kemp sucks might as well jus rely marsh play especially without schwarber tonight

Add on perfect chance to see if marsh can actually hit LHP so at the deadline you know if you need a platoon and RF or just a Rf
Monday at 11:48 PM2 days Kemp is playing because DD wants to shove him down our throat like he did with Walker to justify his decision to put him on the 26 man roster. That's the only explanation.
Tuesday at 12:20 AM2 days Painter at just 69 pitches. Wonder if he goes out for the 7th as it would be his longest outing in terms of innings for the year

Tuesday at 12:34 AM2 days Offense continues to be feast or famine. 3 hits and 3 runs against one of the worst starters in the NL over his last 3 starts
Tuesday at 12:47 AM2 days Money well spent between Keller and Alvarado. Another good investment of $20+ mil
Tuesday at 12:59 AM2 days Bryson Stott becoming a power hitter… 5th HR makes him somehow 3rd on the team lol

Piss off Keller and Alvarado. You know how great this team could be if we weren’t wasting like $100 mil + on bad contracts/ players and had better players with that money. Nola, Walker, Garcia, Castellanos, Alvarado, realmuto and Keller. Without the luxury tax that’s $108 mil.

I wonder if those wasted contracts are brought up to Middleton. That would definitely irritate me if I were him but then again, Middleton was the one who hired him and continues to stick by him.

Should have a better RF, 5th starter and bullpen arm with that type of money.

A risky move but it is obvious it has paid off. Now the 5th starter is Nola and while he is expensive he doesn't suck more than 90% of the other 5th starters out there. Now if Luzardo can just get some consistency we'd be a "good Painter" away from having a great rotation.btw - Who's been playing 3rd base the last few weeks?

He’s actually been one of the worst starters in baseball over the last month. He hasn’t gotten through 5 innings in 4 of last 5 starts and has an era of 7.71 over that time. So not only has he been bad outside of 1 start he isn’t eating innings. Even with painter not being great, he’s at least giving you 5 or more innings in 4 of his last 5 starts. Even with luzardo being inconsistent has given you 6+ in 3 of 5 starts. The issue is the Phillies have a combined $43 mil on Nola and Walker. One isn’t even in the majors and Nola might wind up getting placed on IL if gage wood pitches well in double A for a couple months. Think it is telling that they moved him up to double A this early in the season (total of 9 career starts in single A before the promotion)

His fastball is down, his walk rate is up and his ERA with men on base is something like 9+. He is going to need to adjust his pitching style to his physical limitations, which I am not confident he can do, let alone in the middle of a season.

In any case, while the money is always a factor it isn’t like there is a hard cap. There is also a pretty high upside possibility if he could find just a bit of his previous form. You were always going to have to take some form and level of risk with #5. I’m good with the mix Nola brings for the moment. If he continues to totally suck for another month then they can take a risk on someone else. The money is already sunk in any case at this point so nothing can be done about that.

The money is already sunk in any case at this point so nothing can be done about that.Money is a factor. Why do you think they haven’t gone out and just freely spent to fix problems and gone cheaper solutions like Garcia, Kepler, Merrifield and others? Why do you think Ranger Suarez isn’t pitching for us right now? It’s cause of what Jayson stark has said multiple times. They are already over budget. They actually want to cut payroll and are over what they want to spend. until some of it falls off they really aren’t going over more. Been crystal clear about that from multiple guys who cover the team. They went after Bichette cause the market was dropping his value and had a bunch of money coming off in 2027 so that was going to be their big bat signing for the next 3 years if it happened (thankfully with how it played the Mets saved us)The upside is what? It’s been a year and a half where he has been this pitcher. Been 26 starts since the start of 2025, he has a 6 ERA. Furthermore, it’s been 2.5 of the last 3.5 years where he’s had an era around 4.5 or higher. At some point got accept the Aaron nola of 2017-2022 is gone. he had a bunch innings on his arm and his age has caught up to him. His fastball velocity which wasn’t great is down. His movement is also down. I hope he gets it back but there’s a better chance at 33 years old he’s not getting back to his old form. It’s rare what wheeler is doing. Thankfully he is otherwise we’d be in deep crap. Can say that’s a sunk cost, but you are also dealing with the sunk cost fallacy. Where you don’t want accept the sunk cost and move on as you want to believe its value is coming back or something that is not anymore. They did that with Walker. Didn’t work. Nola isn’t even good for a 5th starter for the last 5 starts. He’s got even gotten to 5 innings. Heck 6 of 9 starts he’s gone 5 or less. He is on pace for 161 innings if he gets 32 starts. Would be the worst of his career for a full amount of starts (so not counting 60 game 2020 season or him missing half a season in 2025 or 2016/2017 where they kept him on innings restriction as he was young and weren’t playing for anything).I hope he proves me wrong. However since 2023, he’s been this type of inconsistency outside of what’s looking like an outlier year in 2024. Imo I said this about a couple weeks ago, they don’t have anybody in their farm system that is close to taking over for painter or Nola if they couldn’t do the job. They were kind of forced to keep on going due to lack of depth. I also believed at that time, Gage Wood was gonna be in single-A at least till July before they moved him up. Heck the promotion might have been just high A. They moved him up in the middle of May to double A. Which kind of tells me if Nola keeps going down this road and Wood excels in double A that Nola might be phantom IL’d in beginning of July. See what wood can do. If he fails they make a trade for a SP at the deadline and if he succeeds he’s your 5th starter
