Really? That's surprising. Normally your optimism leaps off the screen!

At least I’m honest about when I have the wrong read.

You can see Painter’s potential. That slider is filthy. If and when he can get a hold of his command he is going to be just fine.

Was listening to a podcast where they talked about coming back from Tommy John’s surgery, the last thing that usually comes back for a pitcher is their control. Which before he got hurt, and when they drafted him, that was his biggest issue. It took a years to get that under control. So I’m not surprised by the fact that he didn’t pitch for two years then was on the innings restriction, he’s had the problem he’s had with this control. I think some of the times he’s trying to control where the pitch goes rather than just letting it go and trusting that it’s going to get where it needs too. when he tries to force it, he leaves it over the plate and it gets hit.

Well painter was better but in the end the pitching will be fine, and the offense will let them down

Same old story. They need an upgrade at 3B. Frankly they also need Turner to live up to his contract. Kind of looks like JT is also cooked another bad contract that shouldn’t have been signed. It’s only 3 years but really the Phillies not drafting and developing a catcher after dealing O’hoppe was stupid. Kid they dealt to the twins is becoming a 1b/DH. He’s is below avg defensively at catcher. Kind of think it’s why they dealt him

I’d add Garcia had been striking out less since that cubs series in Wrigley. But he’s been atrocious the last 3 games. 0-12 with 6 Ks basically reverted back to what he was doing in Texas

Well the starting pitching has been way better.

They are only going as far as their pitching. Which was kind of the same thing last year. The issue to me is they need a third baseman because Alec Bohm doesn’t give you power and he doesn’t hit like he has in previous years. also need a right fielder because Garcia has now morphed back into the player he was with the Rangers. Like also need ann upgrade at catcher cause Jt Realmuto looks like he shot or an upgrade at shortstop, cause Turner hasn’t been very productive.

So outside of that, everything is peachy.

It's been cold. And wet.

Perhaps they'll hit better when it warms up.

They have been winning lately, digging their way out of that Robbie Thomson start.

Perhaps, I think, Mattingly is setting expectations a little higher. More accountability for each at bat.

Let me introduce you to Mr October, he is an older month. Many describe him as having a cool and even sometimes warm personality during the day but at night they say he can be nasty. Some reviewers notably, mental midget Aaron Nola say they don’t mind him during the day but he can be mean at night. He prefers Mr. July.

Where were you when Elmo saved the season!!!

Not talked about enough the fact we have crap defense. Literally the only player who’s a plus defender is Stott. Even Crawford’s defensive analytics aren’t great

Yeah I read somewhere recently that Crawford was the lowest rated defensive center fielder so far this year - not great.

His jump time of reading the ball off the bat is awful. If he got better jumps he’d be better. Believe it’s also one of the worst in the league for the position

You'd think they would have seen that before bringing him up.

Crawford is the least of their worries

Nice job Bohm. Can't get a sac fly RBI and instead grounds into double play.

The weird thing with Crawford...we all know that pitching and hitting takes time to adjust when graduating to MLB. Fielding is usually the easiest adjustment. And within fielding, the outfielders usually have less of an adjustment compared to infielders.

He's a couple months into rookie year, so it's most likely a function of playing tight and not relaxing enough to be instinctive off the bat. That said...of all the competitive responsibilities of professional athletes ascending to the big leagues...hitting, pitching, route running, progressions, NBA passing/defense....playing outfield is one of those things that is a pretty similar experience whether you are in college, A-ball, or the majors. So it's a bit unusual.

Holy hell Nola can't even get through 3 innings most games it seems anymore

Yeah he's terrible.

Omg, he blows. So glad DD signed him to that ridiculously long contract though. DD is hot garbage.
