May 20, 20251 yr I know reliever is now a big need but it would suck to give up Abel for some guy who will likely will be an FA after the season and have no faith they will re-sign if good. Just sucks, I want to see more of what the kid is capable of and to see if he could be a future starter in the rotation.

One of their biggest issues the last two postseason is that they get these runners in scoring position that they can’t bring in. Currently, Hoskins is hitting 341 with runners in scoring position. The fact is it’s not so much the 18 home runs that they need. It’s the fact that when they get into a bind with runners in scoring position in the playoffs, they have trouble bringing them in because they rely too much on hitting a home runs. The fact that he is hitting 341 with runners in scoring position and the year the Phillies went to the World Series he was arguably their best hitter besides Harper with RISP.Turner isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire at shortstop defensively but right now he’s one of the best hitters in the NL as he’s hitting .303 with .358 OBP. I can live with the mistakes at first because the Phillies could use a right handed bat in the middle of that lineup that can hit with runners in scoring position. They look great against the Rockies and the pirates because they aren’t very good baseball teams. But when they faced the Mets like last postseason, you’re gonna need somebody in the middle of that lineup that can hit with runners in Fing scoring position. Like last postseason where they couldn’t Fing do it. Against the diamondbacks the last two games of the NLCS (really could say game 3 and even game 4 kimbrel blew they left a ton of guys in base).I’d add they never replaced Rhys’ bat so they’ve been a RH middle of the lineup bat short. It was supposed to elongate the lineup with the addition of Turner. Instead when he got hurt they assumed JT would not decline as much as he has as a hitter. He did. marsh would step up and he hasn’t. Bohm would be a middle of the lineup guy and he isn’t. Kepler would be what he was 2-3 years ago. Hes not.Pete Alonso is not a good defensive first baseman (last two days shows it), but the Mets don’t beat the Phillies or brewers without him last year. It’s why they tried to acquire him this offseason as a RH bat in the middle of the lineup and move Harper back to OF. Pete going on 31 and Hoskins is 32. Not much of an age gap.Not many guys on the market that are gonna give you slashes of .291/.400/.854. Also see a ton of pitches. Hoskins might actually wind up being the best hitter at the deadline with how it’s going. He’s now 2 years removed from his ACL and on pace to have one of his best years of his career. Also Phillies could get guys better than Hoskins hitting 18 HRs and better fielding yet their solutions the last 2.5 years in replacing his bat in the middle of the lineup have been Rodolfo Castro, Austin hays (was bad here prior to his kidney issue) and max kepler. The issue is not omg Hoskins is the great baseball player and how they let him walk. The issue is the Phillies let him go and did a terrible job replacing the production that he gave that lineup as a RH middle of lineup guy. They’ve been a bat short since his injuryAdding a guy because he luckily gets more hits when guys are on base makes no sense. We're 6th in baseball for avg with runners in scoring position as a team.Im not a Hoskins hater. I just think he's a 6-7 hitter on a WS winning team. We tried plugging him for years in the top 4-5 and he was never good enough. We need an actual hitter who you can plug into anywhere from 3-6. Hoskins is a waste of time.

Hoskins is a waste of time.no, I’m adding a guy who has proven to hit with runners in scoring position with Phillies and now with the brewers. He’s also hitting .291 and OBP .400. Also takes a ton of pitches which the Phillies struggled with against the Mets and diamondbacks in their last two postseason losses. That’s pretty good too.The Phillies last year were top 8 all year in AVG with runners in scoring position. Guess what happened in the playoffs? They couldn’t do it as they were a bat short in the middle of that lineup that could hit with RISP. They pitched around Harper and eventually casty. They needed another bat. The same thing that happened in game 3,6 and 7 against the diamondbacks too where they stranded runners. Can throw game 4 where they failed when they had a chance to bust that game open too.they got to the World Series with him. he was a big reason in that Braves series that they advanced (albeit bad defensive play too). a big reason in that San Diego series that they advanced (4HRs and 7 RBI). The problem is they ran into the Houston Astros we had one of the best bullpen in MLB history and frankly better team. Otherwise you’re looking at a team that nearly won a World Series with Rhys Hoskins hitting in the middle/top of that lineup and didn’t have this version of trea Turner. The bigger point is they let him go and created a hole in their lineup and made their lineup worse. Your lineup is much more potent right now having Stott, Turner, Bryce, schwarber, casty then Hoskins then not having him. Marsh, Bohm, realmuto and Kepler are far worse at 5 or 6Let me say this I was one of the biggest Hoskins haters on this board during most of his tenure. However, since he’s been gone the things that they lack is when they have a chance to hit with runners and scoring position in a big spot. Regular season against mediocre teams and bad teams they are great. He also grinds at bat and sees a lot of pitches. The only other guy on their team that generally does that is Bryson Stott. sometimes Bryce when he’s hot. They also need a guy like that that makes pitchers grind and work so they can make a mistake to him or to the guys in back or front of him as they get worked in high pitched innings.

May 21, 20251 yr This is how they should’ve started yesterday. Good to see so far should be a blowout

May 21, 20251 yr Luzardo's Cy Young odds went from +2500 to +1600 in a week. This is probably the last time you can get value out of that. (I jumped on at +2000 before yesterday's start)

While miller could be awesome we still don’t know at a mlb level. The issue is more when his team control is up you are likely going to lose him to the dodgers or Yankees who just throw an insane number at him.
