Ranger doesn’t have great stuff today but he also struck Trout out and they called it ball 4 instead

Should’ve gotten it but likely gets that call and the benefit of the doubt if he wasn’t all over the place in the strike zone.

Well Ranger looking like he’s going maybe 4

Yeah, guess I jinxed him

Had a feeling this was their plan to give him a month to warm up and get ready for October and September

Love it. Finally. Now go out and get Suarez from the Reds.

Mean dbacks? They should try for Duran and Suarez

i think this is the reason why kyle schwarber wants to leave and alot of players are struggling right now is because this organization doesnt care about winning especially when middleton comes out and says i want that trophy back and dd does nothing to add to get them there, it sends a bad message to the clubhouse, like why would the players care and want to sign here if the organization has no desire to make them a contender?

if middleton cared at all, dd would have been fired last year and not running it back again. if middleton shows no accountability with the front office, we are going lose more players than kyle schwarber.

Basically Kepler…

I know everyone is mad at DD about Hays/Kepler/Merrifield debacles in LF. And I realize if you take all the bad money LF misses and their FA bullpen misses and Walker...you could roll it all up into one quality LF FA signing. But I think we all realize there is an overarching issue there. The Phillies have hit a ceiling on what they are willing and able to invest in their roster. I'm grateful that ceiling is higher than all but a few teams in MLB, but it is a pretty fixed ceiling nonetheless. And they are stuck at that ceiling with no breathing room. The contracts that got them there were mostly fun and worthwhile, but are now in the phase of significantly reduced return on the yearly investment/cost. There is no way to wiggle around that. I think this is the last year that they will be a really good team with this nucleus. They have the same lack of resources next year, stuck with the same players....either minus a couple key guys or with those key guys getting so expensive it's impossible to add to the team. So this is it. This trade deadline is their one chance to make the team better...to offer a bit of a nihilistic hot take...probably for the next 3-5 years.

I'm not saying to sell off the farm (which I do think won't amount to much anyway)....but I am saying this deadline is the last shot this team, as constructed, will ever have. And...they are going to be constructed with this central group for a long time still, whether they are competitive or not.

I’d argue this team is really only locked into Bryce, Turner, Nola and Sanchez long term. After this year realmuto, schwarber, Alvarado, Ross, Romano, Kepler and Suarez could all be gone. After 2026 walker, Castellanos, Bohm, Luzardo, strahm. That’s about $135 mil coming off the books the next year. And frankly it’s more due to the highest luxury tax threshold. After 2027 or 2028 can walk away from Marsh and Stott too. They really aren’t tied to this core group besides Harper, Nola, Turner and Sanchez.

Rosenthal and other baseball guys keep

Mentioning a lockout in 2027. Meaning there’s a chance wheeler just retires at that point rather than no year and returning in 2028. I think he comes back but he could just walk away at that point.

Really besides Sanchez of the 4 guys long term they are likely going to have bad contracts deeper we get into the contract. However they are going to have significant money to overhaul the roster. the issue is more you want guys like painter, miller and Crawford to develop to fill in some of those gaps left by guys cause they are cheap contracts. They really need painter to be what they believe he can. But even if Crawford, miller and Tait wind up being just solid MLB players they are dirt cheap so they can spend elsewhere and build up. The issue is they trade them to go all in now then need to draft and develop other guys in there place. Realistically hard for the Phillies in the past to do it and no one is remotely close to the majors. All those guys are 2 years or Less away except for maybe tait

It always concerns me trading for guys that play on lousy teams in front of a few hundred fans. Sure, they can ball out when there isn't anything to play for but how will he do in the pressure cooker of Philly? What if he blows a save or gets hit around? Will he crumble or just brush it off as a bad outing? Heck, the Phillies hit him around in 2 of the 3 games they played out there last month. Not saying I'm not interested, but I wouldn't unload the farm for him either.

Tbh i don’t love unloading the farm on a closer/RP. I think your closer gives you 3 chances per week on average. If you are unloading the farm then should be a major bat. They can play every day and impact every single game. Based off listening to multiple different podcasts, usually how most baseball people view major trades. You’ll unload for a starter that’s got top of rotation stuff or a major bat not RP. Even if it’s Duran or Miller I’m not thrilled with unloading the far for a RP. Frankly i think you could get Bednar from the pirates for far less and then use your prospects to get a major bat and be better off.

Imo this year they can’t just do a big bullpen move. They actually need both to do anything. I don’t think they have enough prospects to unload the farm on both a bat and RP. It’s partially why they signed Robertson as they really needed 2 RPs due to no Alvarado for the playoffs

Another LH OF who’s having a down year compared to his previous two years

2023: .295/.346/.828 (102 games)

2024: .285/.342/.834

2025: .257/.322/.749 (100 games)

Mickey Moniak with better numbers than Kepler and marsh lol

.267/.317/.852 14 HRs and 36 RBI in 82 games

Marsh:

.250/.323/.674 3 HRs and 21 RBI in 77 games

Kepler:

.204/.299/.660 10 HRs and 32 RBI in 87 games

He’s also making a fraction of what Kepler is and still better slashes with avg, SLG and OPS on the road then Kepler. He also didn’t get to face his own awful pitching like marsh and Kepler did. And both (more Kepler) boosted their BA, OBP stats against Rockies. Also has more homers on the road than marsh has all year

Lmao

They are going to overpay for someone and still get bounced in the playoffs and have no farm system left, party like its 2011 folks

I’m just hoping they’d fire Dombrowski at that point and bring someone in from an organization that knows how draft and develop and actually identify better talent in the international pool

Buehler has a 8.62 ERA since June 1. So naturally the Phillies offense won’t do crap

Is it me or does Kemp throw a better ball to first than Bohm?
