Mattingly is an idiot but a lot of this is on Dave not knowing how to actually fix a bullpen or construct a good bullpen. In his tenure here they’ve had one season where their bullpen was complete. The other four it’s like makeshift bullpen. Dave has been clueless every year with his bullpen

Naw. They were losing this game because they had multiple opportunities with guys in scoring position and they pissed them away. Heck sale had 44 pitches after two innings. The next four innings he threw 41 pitches. If they would’ve been patient and made him throw pitches, he would’ve been out of the game and you probably win this game. Instead, the Phillies do what they always do the next 7 innings, nothing on offense and when they finally do get something going, they run themselves out of the inning.
