Also, it wasn’t the fourth Fing inning. he had just gotten through the 5th inning at 83 pitches. So it’s going to the sixth inning. What difference does it make if it’s your ace. If anything you want to get him more rest because he’s pitched more than anybody else besides Nola. They literally removed Ranger Suarez from a 10 to 2 game vs. Miami because they were up by so much and he was at 78 pitches. Aaron Nola who’s pitched more innings than anybody on the staff over the last five years they also removed from a game like that. It’s BS if you wanna do it for some, but you won’t do it for wheeler who probably at his age and amount of innings he’s logged the last 3-4 years with the postseason could use the extra rest. Hence why they gave him a couple weeks off in the past and also pushed some of his starts out so he wasn’t pitching every 5th day. Also, the Cy Young thing is also BS. Cause they pretty much shut him down for a month in 2022 when he had a "injury” and was really they saw he was wearing down and could use the rest and he was a candidate then. And he could’ve return prior to he entire month off they gave him. And it was known they extended it cause they knew they needed him fresher for the postseason (and that year they were down to the wire getting in). Add on they want to go to a 6 man rotation which is going to give him 1 day a week so that’s also going to hurt his chances. I’d be willing to bet with two or three weeks left in the year if the Phillies already clinched the division or where it looks like the divisions over they’re gonna give him a week to two weeks off. So he’s likely gonna miss 2 maybe even 3 starts. Furthermore even after giving him time off they’ll limit him to likely 3-4 innings just to ramp up The whole football aspect you bring up, the Phillies have purposely removed guys from games to save their arms from the extra innings early in the season and they’ve also done it later in the season. They’ve pushed starts back and given guys weeks off if they think they need rest and running on fumes. So realistically, the Phillies have shown you they are willing to do it and that’s how they’ve treated it in the past. Removing him after 83 pitches after the 5th inning isn’t going to kill his cy young chances.

Or at least have a decent trade chip. Said the other night he really should model his game after Michael Bourn. I can’t remember if Bourn was a high prospect but he played 11 years in the MLB. He wasn’t a power hitter. Just a good fielder and learned how to be a solid hitter. .266 for his career. Only had 36 homeruns during that time but was able to stay in the league for as long as he did due to his speed, defense and just being a solid hitter. Frankly think Rojas is a better defender than Bourn was at this stage of their careers.
August 16, 20242 yr Why I didn’t like Robert Jr. he’s overrated cause of his 2023 year which is likely a career year. He has the same type of issues marsh does where he strikes out a lot and you basically would need to fix his approach and hitting to get the most out of him. he just has more power than marsh and can play CF defensively. I’m guessing the Phillies didn’t want to trade another high level prospect and have to fix him and marsh they kind of not had the success they wanted.

Jamie Lynch from ALL PHLY loved him some Luis Ronert jr. He was acting like he was the next Gary Maddox. Glad we didn't get him.
