The first two Nats hits in the 9th were soft and the 2nd one was on a really good pitch.  The run tying hit was grooved though.  Can't make that mistake again.

Still a W which is what is needed at this point.  Style points can come in a couple weeks IF they can get some consistency winning games first.

Tbh i still think when BP guys get rest down the stretch due to the division lead being what it is that they’ll be fresher for it and it’ll help. estevez was hitting 98 and 99 night. Did it 10 times so his velocity isn’t the issue. I think it was more like Alvarado where his location wasnt great cause of how hard he was throwing. He got some swings and misses on those 98-99 mph pitches but just 2 of them were actually in the zone if guys didn’t swing. Remember reading the angels had him lower his velocity to 95-96 cause it helped with his control. When you look at his 90-96 mph he threw more strikes consistently.

imo more irritated with the offense allowing Corbin to keep the Nats in that game. Corbin Fing sucks. He wasn’t good last night but they kept missing pitches and swinging at crap outside of the 3rd inning. Add on after the Nats took out Corbin, the Phillies didn’t have a hit from 1 out in the 5th til the 9th inning. Like we’ve seen at times they have these stretches where their plate approach is awful and it feels like they are just sleep walking through games

That seems right.  All I saw were the highlights for this one so I can't really have too much of an opinion but there was only one grooved pitch that was hit in any case.

Imo just win tonight and figure a way to win around Walker pitching. The 13 games after the Nats series are going to show us how back the Phillies are. That’s 13 games in a row vs. current playoff teams. Don’t need to go 13-0 or even 10-3. Just go 7-6 or 8-5 that’s good enough. Just can’t be like 6-13 like they were for the 19 games they had against twins, guardians, Yankees, mariners, dodgers and dbacks.

I saw Nola gave up 7 hits were they scattered or did he have a bad inning?

Scattered. Had 2 late in the 7th then he got pulled. Actually don’t think he had his best stuff but he did a good job of getting out of innings and trouble. He had at least one base runner on every inning.

He didn't even give up a homer

Probably an indication that turnbull is done for the year as yesterday they said he had a setback

I know Turnbull was injury prone already but I wonder if going from starter to bullpen screwed him up somehow physically.

I said that at the time when they did it. He’s never thrown out of the bullpen before. I’m guessing when he was training in the off-season, it wasn’t to be a bullpen guy. Because he’s never been that. It’s a different regiment of training and build up. He likely was training to be a starter. So when you switched them from starter to bullpen middle of the season, he likely had to change what he was comfortable with and his routine. Most pitchers are creatures of habit. So when you change it with a guy who’s already had injury problems it probably didn’t help him. 

 

 

Love Sosa as a bench player. He brings value to the team as that. but he’s been as bad as Stott since June 1st. His slashes are .239/.275/.335/.611

Pretty brutal the Phillies faced Corbin (5.98 entering the game) and Gore (4.50 ERA entering the game) and only managed to score 3 runs so far in 8.1 innings combined. 

Is there a reason all these night games start at 6:40 PM now, and not 7:05 in other years?  I don't care either way, but was curious.

Moved up start time so games didn’t get done 25-30 mins later.

Thanks.  6:40-9:30 PM is alright (although sometimes I work until 9 PM, which is bad for me personally).  I just hope they keep this in mind for the playoffs and we don't have East Coast games going until midnight.
