I’d have said Charlie Manuel but health prevents him from doing it) or have someone from the outside willing to do the job for basically a month and candidate pool is not going to be robust. I’d add a chance if you fire long to send a message that you get the same thing that happened with the eagles and they just completely roll over and die as a lot of players love long. I don’t disagree with you that I would fire Kevin Long to try to send a message. you’re spiraling anyways. But there is a world where where it doesn’t send a message and they actually just give up entirely. I know they’re playing bad and they look awful, but I don’t think it’s from a lack of effort (besides Turner not running it out a couple weeks ago). I think if you make that move and it backfires, you’re going to get guys not caring and just the season completely slips away. yeah next year, they cannot run this back or else, this team will go downhill and probably not come back for a long time. coaches, manager, general manager, they have to be cleared out, no excuse for this to happen.

They’ll be changes. However have a hard time believing guys like wheeler, Harper, Nola, Ranger, Sanchez, schwarber, Castellanos and Turner will be gone. Their contracts either make it difficult to do it or they are winning type players they won’t want to trade away when they likely think their window is still open. imo their bullpen likely looks vastly different. Tend to think estevez, Alvarado are gone. Hoffman is unknown as he’s a FA. strahm and Kerkering are likely to knows back. I’m guessing Ruiz and lazar are back too. So likely going out and getting 2-3 new arms. rotation is likely wheeler, nola, Sanchez and Ranger. Painter as the 5th on an innings limit so likely acquire a 5th starter either prior to the season or at the deadline (preferably FA as no prospects given up). the lineup is interesting. Cause technically have 4 spots where can use upgrades: second, LF, CF and C. Catcher i think it’s going to be realmuto and Marchan in a platoon that’s 60/40. Then again Marchan never stays healthy. He’s currently injured in the minors. To me I’d be shocked if they don’t make a big move in LF or CF. Imo i think they like to see Rojas next year to see if he makes a jump in his second full season. If he does then they are golden. If he doesn’t i think there’s a chance Crawford is called up at some point middle of the season where they can get him for the year and not give up one of his cheap years. To me LF makes the most sense as marsh is what he is. Unless he just completely turns it around down the stretch i think 2.5 years of trying to fix him is enough to say it’s likely not happening. He has 3 cheap controllable years left so I’m guessing they can trade him and likely get a bullpen piece from a team that wants to try fixing him on a cheap contract and then trade him if they do to cash in. Stott’s situation is much more murky. Caba and miller can be the future at 2b or move turner to 2b and miller/caba take over. Problem is neither are going to be ready next year. Most likely miller in 2026. And Caba likely mid season 2026 or 2027. So essentially see if Stott pans out in 2025 and plays like 2023. Or have a one year bridge. I’m guessing the Phillies value Stott highly enough to give him another year. imo new BP, 5th starter and a LF is likely what you are getting from the Phillies offseason. If they fail hitting wise i think long is gone and Thomson is on a short leash in 2025 like Girardi was in 2022

Probably just as gross. 2021: no playoffs 2022: 2-3 2023: 1-2 last year they got as far as they did cause they basically hit homers galore through game 2 of the nlcs. After game two they didn’t hit homers in games 3 or 6. Lost both.

August 25, 20242 yr I really want to say they’re back, but I’ve seen them go off like this in a game and then not be able to do anything the next couple games. To me tomorrow is a pivotal moment in this season. Because if they can go out there and manage to win that game and win this series it’s pretty big. I think they may have turn the corner. But if they go out and just get their ass handed to them tomorrow, it’s been much of the same.
