Look at some of the races in CA. The mayor of Oakland, a radical progressive, was recalled. So was the DA for Alameda County, who refused to prosecute criminals. And Proposition 36, which makes shoplifting a felony again, passed with 70% of the vote. However, the stupidity remains. While Oakland recalled the idiot progressive mayor (her home was raided by the FBI back in the summer), they still elected a majority uber progressive city council and city attorney. LA elected Karen Bass as mayor. These people do real damage that the GOP can pay up on a national level. Until Democratic voters stop supporting this insanity, they will continue to be tainted with it nationally.

There’s no getting around this fact. They can’t blame it on the GOP or Trump. The electorate has correctly identified the Democratic Party as the ones who own all of these problems and that these problems were created from nothing based on ideology. It will take decades for the voters to divorce the democrats from these policies in their mind, and that’s if the democrats actually did an about face, which they won’t.

When Obama ran for president he did some of what you're suggesting and then it was game over for McCain.

Latinos are generally church goers and socially conservative.
