Not great upside at all. Boston getting out of that contract and into an expiring contract helps them going forward. Also saves them $40 mil in taxes in 2025-26. they aren’t winning next year without Tatum so try to get some money off the books for the year after (or can re-sign if they wanted too). Which they wanted to do anyway.

Holiday has 2 years left and almost a guarantee he’s picking up his player option making it 3. Portland could use a PG and he can help mentor Henderson. but really holiday is declining and rather have dealt Simons somewhere else and not jump into essentially a 3 year contract with an aging declining player. Unless they are flipping him to someone else during free agency the Celtics definitely won that trade
