You're mining pretty deep there.

Marcus Jones and Turpin have each only played one year in the NFL.  Turpin is a much better KR than PR, and Jones had one PR TD that went for 84 yards; other than that he was 28 returns for 278 yards -- 9.9 ypr and not much better than Covey.

Braxton Berrios doesn't affect any NFL punter, one way or another.

Other than removing the play where he proved he is dangerous, he was pretty average.   🤔

What's odd about White Shoes Johnson is that he played in an era when "white shoes" were rare...and kinda weird. I believe Joe Namath wore white shoes and was seen as a kind of a renegade for doing so. The rest of the league wore black shoes. When you look at footage from the time, the black shoes seem out of place. It's funny how times change.

Incidentally the Eagles as a team started wearing black shoes in 1989, perhaps after the death of offensive coordinator Doug Scovil. That was the same time they put a black piece of tape across the Eagles wing on their helmets. You can still sometimes see that in highlights. In case you're wondering WTF that is, that was it.

I appreciate the history.  I did not remember the black tape until you mentioned it.

As an Oilers fan, I had the pleasure of watching Johnson.  He is excellent for making my point about Covey.  Billy was a good receiver for those teams.  That’s really all I am asking, that the returner have the capability of contributing at their position. (Of course, that does mean they need a back up as well, which I think the Eagles need as it is.).

Wonder if the Eagles kick the tires on Haeg.

Wonder if Zentner sucks throughout the offseason if they eventually bring in Araiza. Reporters were unimpressed with Zentner.

There are definite rabbit holes to go down with punting; dome, outside, time of year etc. Are some stats better where a punter plays in a dome or good weather? Etc

How soon until the Philly media/blogosphere put something together on this subject?

The Bills has been knocking at the doors for some seasons now.  For their own sake, they need to push thru soon or they will fall to their team history of 4 trips to SB but winner of none.  With KC on the way, they are against formidable foes.  Adding at the Edge would help.  They may need to find a way to add Hopkins to have more firepower on offense.

Smith is back at OTA's I guess

That huge ass patch going to be on their jerseys this season?

If you take away Covey's career long PR of 27 yards (I think they sent his cleats to the HoF) he averages 8.8 per return which is way worse than 9.9 per return.

No, they always wear that during the offseason and then ditch them for the regular season

I have a feeling that if you take away the longest return of every punt returner, their average will go down.

Wonder if this is why Ngakoue hasn't signed yet with anyone.

I was listening to the Ringer's NFL podcast about contenders in the AFC besides the Chiefs.  They pointed out how schematically the Bills were pretty vanilla on defense and were exposed in the playoffs as such.  It will be interesting to see if McDermott starts trying to get back to a high a more frequent blitzing scheme.

It was Wentz -- placing bets in Irsay's name.

"Not considered a star but the average fan has likely heard of him" would be the definition of Gardner Minshew

FWIW, the Twitter opinion is its Pittman, but it doesn't help there's a fake Schefter account sayings it's him

I'm going to guess its not him, since the connection to the Colts would have been far less meaningful last season as he wasn't connected to the Colts... or maybe it is Gardener, and he felt he could gamble on Colts games, since the Eagles aren't the Colts.

We’re the number 1 rated team, and Our Dline is still way low. We’re in the red for iDLman? That’s pretty rough.

That is @Iggles_Phan’s message as well.

I hold out hope that Devon Allen can still be a dual contributor on STs and as a legitimate WR threat.

Just toss that on Dean and Edmunds lockers.

I bet you're right.  I just hope they discover Brady was involved in bets on NFL teams.  I would love to see him get the Pete Rose treatment.

Not a fan that he's still skipping OTA's to pursue hurdling. I get they are voluntary, and if he wants to keep pursuing his dreams of being a hurdler, good for him. I just think at this stage in his life if he really wants to play in the NFL, that's what his focus should be solely on.

So when are they adding that vet LB...?

Track is his bread and butter. He's just a camp body as far as football is concerned. (Sorry, Matt.)
