I agree.  They need a better option for the 5th game.  But, they were counting on Painter to fill that role to start the year.  And now they are stuck with the need for another one, but getting one that's worth the cost is going to be tough.

I think it depends on what they want. I think they could find themselves a competent fifth starter and not give up a ton. they really just need an innings eater like joe Blanton was when they acquired him in 08

I question whether or not the Phillies want that and they aren’t after a front end of the rotation type guy. nola is struggling and nola might not even be back next year. Zack Wheeler’s contract is up at the end of next year and he’s 34. So even with painter, McGarry and Abel, you’re gonna need a front line rotation guy because those guys are all young. with the roster they constructed i don’t think they are going to just just rely on three young kids to make up the front end of the rotation next year or even in 2025.

they have Suarez, walker in the rotation for the next couple years. Painter pans out then you got 3 slots for the future. I’m guessing only one of Abel and McGarry is here long term and in the rotation. My guess is they’re going to go after a veteran front end of the rotation type pitcher. I wouldn’t be so shocked if they are in on Shane Bieber at the trade deadline. He makes a lot of sense. He’s in his prime, he’s not 30 yet and he still has a year left on his contract. So if Nola leaves you still have Wheeler and Bieber for at least another year and you allow painter, McGarry, and able to slowly come along, and not have to be the aces for another year

on painter specifically, I am always weary of the Phillies when they keep pushing the timeline back with a guy with that type of injury. With them it usually doesn’t end well when they keeps pushing that timeline back further and further. My biggest fear with painter is they bring him back and he has the same discomfort then at that point he needs the surgery. at that point you don’t see Andrew painter until 2025. This situation feels like dominguez. Happened in March and we likely don’t see him til late July/august. Majority who have his injury need TJ. Some make it by without it but that’s not usually the majority.

Trade for Diggs, sign Hopins. Brown, Smith, Diggs, Hopkins... Super Bowl.

The team wouldn't need a defense.

It is an interesting question.  Maybe they can take on a salary dump by another team at the deadline and so they aren't as interested in getting back prospects.

I think an interesting name at the deadline might be Marcus stroman. Cubs are likely out of it and he’s a guy i don’t think breaks the bank in a deal. He also has a player option of 21 mil in 2024.

another interesting name is freeland of the Rockies. He’s not an ace but he’s having a decent year. However he has 4 years left around 12-15 mil per year. He’s more of a 4-5 starter. Although do think his era drops a little getting out of colts. I might consider it if i could get cj cron who plays first base so i can just keep bohm at 3b and not be forced to play sosa as much.

Stroman might be the biggest POS in MLB

That’s true but he is pitching well has a 2.39 ERA in 13 starts. At this point I’d take that type of consistency

He'd be terrible in the locker room and with the media.  Always has an axe to grind with someone; either the organization, the media ... anyone but himself.  His abilities aren't worth the aggravation he brings -- IMO

I’d take my chances if he’s cheap in terms of what I’m giving up and he’s only here for 2 months anyway. He’s gonna opt out if his option with his numbers he has

I’ve been saying since last year, I think the guy the Phillies want is Shane Bieber. However, the guardians weren’t going to deal with him last year when they believe they could win a World Series. This year I think they’re more open to it as he is going to leave Cleveland. I think if you got him in a trade you’re likely extending him which means you’re not extending Aaron Nola. And when Aaron Nola signs somewhere else you’re gonna get those sandwich pick and a first to make up for him leaving. So really you’re gonna get 2 prospect if you draft well  even if you give up something to get Bieber

And Diggs agent claims he's been there since Monday.  This is all very normal.

Stroman is going to cost a lot. The Phillies should do absolutely nothing. Their players either step up and they are good enough or they aren't. And if they aren't you live with that and get back after it next year. Their farm system is bad they should not be depleting it for anyone not a star. Of course you trade for anyone if you can get them super cheap without giving up much, but I don't think that's realistic in the modern game with more playoff teams and more teams in it. Teams are less likely to sell and more teams are in on buying. Prices are greater now than they've ever been.

And if they fall short, blame it on a **** offseason for not adding enough. Should teach them a valuable lesson that you should never stop short of addressing all issues every winter. Maybe they'll learn from that next time around.

A lot of weird vibes with this

Diggs is an elite level diva.  Total f'ing nut job, a guy you have to win in spite of when all things are considered.

One thing I thought was awesome with Arthur Juan was that he already said he planned on signing a team friendly deal after this contract to be the #2 and make his evolution into his 30’s go smoothly for his team.

Maybe some of that is hot air, but it’s definitely not something you’d ever hear from Diggs or Ochocinco or Owens or Moss

I'm trying to think of something he has done in the past to give him the Diva label but I'm drawing a blank.  I remember thinking on Celebrity Family Feud that he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer but seemed like a nice guy.

Remember when people were calling Brown a diva because he was a little frustrated on the sidelines?

So, they lose because of your awareness?   Weird.  Try walking in the stadium backwards, and you'll think you are leaving...  🤔

Chris Jones is going to get paid so much it'll make your head spin. Might get close to 30m per season. Reason #1421674 why taking a RB round 1 is stupid and you go with premium positions like DT.

Has there been any uptick in new users now that Eagles reddit shut down? Too bad it happened during the dead zone where not much is going on newsworthy.
