February 8, 20251 yr I could be wrong but didn’t Howie offer Johnson some like 3 year like 40-45m deal when he rejected us wanting the 4 year 64m deal Jessie Bates got

I was shocked how low it was in fact. But clearly higher than his market value was.

Can you image us signing Johnson to 16m a year for him to be hurt all of last season man the amount you would be ripping Howie for the terrible signing Lol... you also have to factor in that GMs can't just sit there and wait. If one agent/ player is so stubborn in their stance, they have to move on. Other players you have to sign and allocate money before they go elsewhere.
February 8, 20251 yr It wasn’t 16…plus with Rosie contract….even 10 per…isn’t actually 10 per. Paper BS more than cap fact.

February 8, 20251 yr Just now, cunninghamtheman said: Sure he wanted and I even thought would cost more. But let it play out then. Once the market showed it wasn’t there…then work out the deal…there to be made instead of taking that nothing from Detroit. You can’t just sit and wait in free agency Howie could have sat pat not made moves and lost out of Bradbury, and Johnson. We clearly targeted Johnson first and gave him the best deal he said no and Howie had to pivot. If we are using hindsight that oh well Bradberry sucked then you also have to look at Johnson being injured most of last year as well so would paying him more been worth it last year? Clearly the most favorable outcome happened this year we got Johnson cheaper and he stayed healthy this year

But that wouldn’t have proven just how right Rosie was than letting CJ settle for the Detroit deal.
February 8, 20251 yr Feed the ego and be right for all to witness. So we could field the 31st pass D. Not so brilliant.

Rosie had total control and showed him also. Told his old study Douglas in New York how to handle it too. Of course cost him his GM job…well probably not that part did it.

What if Baun wants $25 mil per... do we hold off on signing Becton until Baun realizes it's way too much? Becton isn't going to wait around. And in that example... what if Becton doesn't play well. Is it fair to say Howie goofed by not waiting months for Baun to come down a little? Bradberry played pretty well in 2022... he tanked worse than Reddick last year. It happens. Let's hope we don't see that if we give Baun or Becton good money.

Where you pay a guy to not dress more…while badly missing the S you didn’t want to sign afterwards because of the bad signing.

Some things you can all put on the GM...but we all knew Hargrave was a bad contract.
February 8, 20251 yr If he doesn’t sign Bradberry then he could easily pounce on Ceedy after he tested the market. If ego was no factor.

February 8, 20251 yr That Niners team had to go all in. So Hargrave wasn’t a bad move. Should have won the Sb and paid off

You need some luck involved with unexpected players stepping up and under the radar signings that pan out. Just not that easy to get everything done...it's not madden, real life there are 31 other teams looking to do the same thing, you aren't always going to get your 1st choice... or even top 10 choice. Even if you got your 11th choice...still have 21 other teams with the same positions to fill on a roster. Just impossible to go each year without holes on your roster.

It was an extremely weak FA group. image wanting to resign your own guy that just help you have top D unit in 2022 and were playing in the SB over the other options in 2023.
