The ball is snapped at the point where Calcaterra in motion has progressed from his End position all the way to behind the Guard. That way he hits the end of the line just as the Edge is taking his first steps … and lays a Wham block on him. Or alternatively he leaves the Edge to Mailata or Johnson and continues on ahead of Barkley (or Hurts) as one of the lead blockers clearing out the second level.

I’ve been discussing him a decent amount. Because his production doesn’t warrant anywhere near 13 mil. But I believe I was tossing around paying him like 11 mil…having two mil extra just based on his value towards Carter. You just haven’t been looking.

He has to pass block at times too. It's not that easy.

However, on most passing plays the TE will be going out into a passing route rather than staying in to pass block. They will often chip block on their pass route, but rarely inline block in those plays Wham blocks from players in motion is anything but a gimmick. It is a staple of a good rushing attack.

I'll try explain better. In our current offense... Hurts passed 20-25 times per game... so on " most plays" the TE doesn't really go in the route. It's why we are having this discussion and you are getting responses from 3 of us who are looking at the blocking aspect. Otherwise if it was 7 years ago with Doug, Wentz/Foles... nobody was really caring about Ertz as a blocker. You follow. The " move " blocker, the route runner...etc. great technical football points, but it skips over the fact of the function of a #1 TE in the current offense.
May 2, 20251 yr Eagles already signing 4 draft picks.Such a difference from back before Lurie when holdouts were like clockwork with this team. Nice to get it all out of the way and just play ball.

It's not that easy.” … which was what I was responding to. There is no question that his inline blocking is much worse than Goedert’s, but in motion Wham blocks by TEs, H-Backs, and even WRs are a staple of Stoutland’s running offensive scheme. Stoutland is no fool. He adjusts his running offense to maximize the abilities of his players and minimize the impact of their limitations.
May 2, 20251 yr Apparently our new rookie QB and QB have a connection…. Loeffler even offered McCord a scholarship when he was in 8th grade to go to Boston college… talked with him few times last year while he was at Syracuse

But we shall see what happens. " MOVE" " WHAM" ... love the terminology, regardless though, both Goedert and Calcaterra on their final year... you would assume if the team views " wham" " move" and route running as enough, then they can part ways with Goedert and let Calcaterra take over as #1 TE. If they don't do that, then I would easily assume they don't view Wham, move etc...as enough in their offense.

There was only one player in the recent Draft who met/meets that standard … Warren from Penn State.

Really could see a whole new TE room next year. But it seems Howie has other priorities at the moment. And in reality, if they move on from Goedert, it shouldn't be until June.
May 2, 20251 yr Doesn’t feel like we’ve discussed the G-men getting Abdul Carter. Seriously not good for us. Right at the end of Lane’s career. I believe he even will be a matchup problem for him. He was the best player in this draft. Don’t even think it’s been disputed…universally considered a freak game wrecking pass rusher.
May 2, 20251 yr Easy way to level out the QB differences between Dart and the rest of the division is….Abdul Carter evens everything out by forcing all the other three divisional teams to their backup QB.

In some ways those contracts are easier to just accept. I just don’t think I would have made that decision concerning Cam. Two sides to why. First….because I believe we could find a replacement C. Day two pick one of our highest percentage ‘hit rate positions.’ Then the part about how worth that top dollar pay is he? I don’t put him all the way up there. Up to me? I’d wish to keep him….but above average pay only. Him and Jordan Davis are going to get us and make things much more difficult affording 53 players.

May 2, 20251 yr 22 hours ago, Bleedinggreen93 said:Likely not a huge deal we likely will have an extension done at some point with him lowering the cap hit before the 2026 season comes anywaySee I read into it just how much leverage Davis is putting on here. Both No Mas and I agreed we wouldn’t do the fifth year option with him. Him having the leverage to force us into excercising that amount of straight all guaranteed loot means we are in trouble some on this one. He shouldn’t be up to making those figures. Guy hasn’t even played very significant percentages of snaps. Hasn’t posted any statistical key leverage advantages. So the moment he forced us into exercising that fifth year option….that was a big win for him here. More than he’s worth….all guaranteed and straight hit to that year’s salary cap. All details completely in his favor big time and totally against us. Any extension talk now begins with us already owing and agreeing to pay him that. Those negotiations are working against us big time already.
