Time will tell. You place more emphasis on guaranteed money than I do. But I understand your logic, and to a large degree agree with it. We are pretty close in our thoughts, but there are differences.

Actually I don't put as much into guaranteed money.as most people. But one would be a special kind of ( you fill in the insulting word) to think Mahomes is going to play 6 years without guaranteed money.

The contract showing on paper is meaningless. He is going to restructure and change many more times.. " as you say, time will tell" ... well.. he already restructured 3 times... which again, you see better looking on a computer instead of the phone.

The fact it will have to happen for KC to sign guys and for Mahomes to get some security...we know many more are coming.

Hurts contract set up way better, Howie won't have to address it until after 2027 ...maybe later. KC having to change it 3 times already should tell you something.

I saw that video as well and enjoyed/appreciated it. Jalen has come a long way since 2021. It has been like peeling back the leaves of an artichoke. Small incremental additions to what he handles season by season.

The Lane Johnson led reset at the Bye was clearly going to put more responsibility on Jalen’s shoulders. More audibles, etc. That followed on the beginning of the year reset to Jason from the history of Kelce making a lot of the calls about the opposing Defense. It has been a well orchestrated player development path. Kudos to all involved.

QB coaches are doing a fantastic job. Pickett and McKee also ran this offense with no issues at all. I mean how many teams BU's can put up 70 points in 2 games? I would confidently guess ZERO

I agree some unguaranteed money will get guaranteed, but I don’t expect much additional money from the Chiefs. The additional money will come from StateFarm etc.

Yes, but look at the changes … below market dollars.

This DeJean kid is smart. Haven’t listened to his podcast yet. Master spin on the positional situation. You know his agent, and/or himself made it clear he has to play outside. The Slot payday is half the pay of outside. So feels like the work around/compromise was for him to move. Fangio conceding he’ll get him outside snaps when less than five DBs are on the field. Fangio went out of his way once this pay discrepancy issue arouse to really make a hard statement and play that he prefers DeJean inside. Fangio knows how things work in this league. So it was less the DC needs you in the Slot more than outside and…”kid plays real well in the Slot and he seems to like to play there.” Then now we finally have the situation with media observing practice noticing the situation with DeJean. DC Fangio clearly has autonomy over his D. But first little OTA practice and we see DeJean taking reps outside. With already seems a fairly wide spread quick prefabbed answer about the situation ready hot for the presses. Like everybody everywhere getting fed he’s going to play outside and move inside for Nickle. Making sure his outside reps don’t jump the tracks real quick. Last thing you want is a media hyped up situation surrounding all this. Like DeJean outside CB reps are more about giving a hard look at just pretty much a full time move. Media easily could run with the narratives of how outside is the bigger more important job. Easy way that could get started is right off how DeJean describes playing that position himself. He states outside you have to face up "against the top receivers in more space.” I mean…how can that description of outside compared to inside not just mean it’s a bigger tougher harder job? Inside you gotta get around(traffic/other players). DeJean humbly downplays the situation. Not puffing out his chest about how he can dominate playing outside or any of that. Behind closed doors he’s already arranged to get every opportunity to show he can play outside. So he doesn’t need to rely on going through the media to force his way. Fangio campaigned for DeJean to play inside. But obviously compromised. It wouldn’t be Fangio getting DeJean outside. DeJean couldn’t get in big work in TC and early his rookie season. Though he had a fantastic and opportunistic rookie season….just gotta believe there’s an abundance this experienced DC could add on to DeJean’s role here at Nickle. Part of which might not be so Nickle…but disguise capable of LB and S positions. You know that player a QB is reading as Nickle…that isn’t on that play. But here’s how DeJean is working the media and playing that ‘game’: he’s not telling you yeah my agent made me aware of just how massive the positional financial differences are. To make and back up that claim to play outside it has to show confidence. DeJean is very confident he can…had to straight come at Fangio that because he can…money says he needs to. DeJean forcing his best interests agenda…but all behind the scenes. When media sees it first time at a practice the cover story already being spit out a narrative: get him on the field …when not in Nickle he’ll play outside. DeJean of course asked by the Philly media about the situation. Fully prepped ready to downplay it all. Very humble ,instead of behind the scenes, doesn’t make a huge frenzied monster about grading him outside so key and close …with any thinking surrounding if he looks great outside he’ll need to just switch to playing outside there full time. Money..status and DeJean himself flatly defined outside as harder higher paying more important…bigger better job. But DeJean ready exactly to face the media asking all about this…first OTA in fact. DeJean states " just will do whatever the team needs me to do.”

All of that to say: DeJean perfectly spun his forcing his way outside into: he’s doing it just to be a team player for them. Image savvy. He could afford to by it already being handled behind the curtain. Would have needed to be opposite if he was met by backlash that wasn’t going to get him out there. If Fangio just stuck his foot down..he’s the coach do what he ordered type situation(remind of No Mas boy Chipper?). …that’s when players are forced going through the media. We would have heard him tell everybody how he can play outside without question. The "did it some in college and a bit here”…,would have turned to "have plenty of experience outside play at the same high level.”

Just pointing out how Fangio made his case for he’d chose to play DeJean inside. You know…he’s praising how well he did there and how it’s a position he desires and prefers. So for DeJean to grab at that cheddar outside? He couldn’t come humbled….at to come with high confidence of he knows he can be just as fantastic and up to the task. They work out the compromise …easy educated assumption here. So done deal….DeJean can come humble and downplay his ability to play outside. The more media believes he’s pushing his agenda over Fangio wishes they’ll start getting real harsh and nitpicking grading his every move. That opposite optical situation has media and fans almost looking for ways to backup Fangio.

But instead DeJean is "just doing whatever the team needs him to do.”

What were the $$ figures before? Again, you seem to be missing the point. Which is, the contract isn't the 10 years it appears on paper. He can be cut with zero dead money. The cap hits are way too high... those things tell you that the contract will constantly have to be updated. It's not like Hurts who will have it set for a while.

Mahomes estimated $20 mil from endorsements... he isn't the only one to get paid nicely from endorsements. KC will still poney up the cash. With much higher cap hits. Hurts deal absolutely way better from a team perspective.

This is just second season for DeJean. So compromise with Fangio this season gets him opportunity to prove he can play outside…at what level? Hard to judge if DeJean will require to play outside as his majority position year three and especially year four. Outside elite top CB double the pay of best Slot CB. So where would DeJean rank outside? Slot almost doesn’t factor in. Elite top Slot still lower than much lesser standards outside.

Driving forces surrounding DeJean future position:

-how well can he play outside? If he’s fantastic? Could demand he relocates playing there…you know if he’s elite at two different positions that individual most likely playing the twice the pay job. Would have to really gauge just how large the factors demand full time outside play equals that top outside cheddar contract? Could he prove himself well enough outside and elite inside as his bonus versatility factoring into top paid contract?

-Now more difficult scenario could be to consider DeJean looks capable but more potentially than from the start displaying. If he’s fantastic were to begin at outside position wobbly…needs to really develop and work at transitioning quite a bit. Then Fangio and him would be challenged. Because personally DeJean huge payday would be riding on just how close to elite levels he could improve to show—-deadline being extension negotiations first chances.

If DeJean looks out of place outside? solves those issues. Potentially capable but behind lacking technique(list various examples of any detail concerning position) just not showing so ready for primetime. That’s our worst problematic scenario to face with it all. Where he struggles more needing time and development much more. Then he personally has to make sure he gets as much experience and exposure just outside as he can.

Year four big payday judgement day all players face. Every player is all about just how much they can achieve at that moment. So just personally year 3 DeJean would chose to just focus outside exclusively if that’s what he needed to improve enough there to cash in. Eagles offer extending him will be based on market value DeJean achieves outside….by then. Elite Slot/decent outside…probably fairly equal offer in comparison. All the money to be made completely surrounds just how well he can play outside.

You could spin Rosie could express whatever to counter the league market getting out in front if the situation even …for team benefit(whatever resining). Just nothing can really be enough. One team or guaranteeing the 32 team market is strongest? Having options of negotiating an early extension with just one team being backed up by if reaching FA instead is actually looking very profitable…is ideal. Just business. After extending and getting paid? Then easier to accept playing Slot or whatever.

I’m not missing the point, I just think the point is full of unknowns. So I’m not drawing any conclusions without more data.

Maybe early for you. Early for me would be Bill Haley and the Comets. Traffic was prime listening for me. I’m a Woodstock attendee.

Correct...it's unknown...unlike Hurts where we know what the numbers will be. Mahomes have changed 3 times and will change a few more.
