I'm surprised the Niners didn't demand the Eagles didn't give up a draft pick for taking his contract

This is the coach who got 10 sacks out of Huff in a part time role... paying discount salary. Works great for both teams.

Assuming no injuries(which we know happen anyhow) what % chance do you give us to repeat? I'm going with 85%

Love the confidence!

Yep, TBD>

Basically, sounds like a fair compromise all around. In the end, all parties will probably come out modest winners.

The quoted assessment below is in my opinion a very solid assessment of where we are going into this season.

It is all about the Defense. They are the Dog and the Offense is the Tail.

With the Huff trade and BG’s retirement, the only player shown on the PE?com roster as a DE is KJ Henry, who has the athleticism to be an OLB. This is not a 4/3 team. When they go heavy, it could be something like Davis, Carter and Ojomo (for example), flanked by two OLBs with two ILBs behind them (basically a 3/4) with two Ss and two OCBs. But a light might be something like Hunt, Carter, Robinson, Smith with two ILBs and five DBs. The beauty of this is who is coming. The OLBs will mostly rush, seal the edge, but sometimes they may drop. The ILBs can all rush and arguably sometimes change position as part of a play where Campbell and Baun both have played on the edge. Look at the defensive options Fangio has. Huff like Reddick handicapped what Fangio might be able to do.

This whole handwringing about the lack of a DE is misplaced. The Eagles are well stocked at OLB. I think Ojulari will be a solid third in the rotation. While hoping for Hunt magic with APR is not realistic, as the #4 OLB, the raw material to work with is exciting. Last year, Henry and Mathis were on the PS. Best of them plus Uche or Patrick will offer PS depth this year.

I’m going with a real high chance we add another quality piece to the roster. Opening up some cap space as of June1st.

Let’s finish building the team before getting ahead of ourselves.

Don’t have to go blowing everything right now either. Roster cutdown day might present our best options. Considering both significant NFL calendar day….think we have a guy in mind will be adding here. Breaking news on the way….not about Huff.

I’m going to break my rule and reply to you because it will be interesting to (1) hear what you think still needs building, (2) can avoid giving a lecture, and (3) can provide your thoughts in a single comment rather than a monologue series of comments replying to yourself rather than conversing with others.

As Andy would say, "Time’s yours.”

Agreed. With that said, the article below does a reasonable job of identifying and profiling the possibilities.

Eagles Trade Bryce Huff to 49ers: What’s Next for Howie Roseman?

May 31

Bryce Huff was the most expensive addition that the Philadelphia Eagles made last offseason. Now fast forward to 2025 and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is trading Huff to the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports.

After a disappointing debut season in the City of Brotherly Love, it was clear that Huff was no longer a fit for the Eagles. Yet his sizable contract would seemingly make it difficult to trade him this offseason. Luckily, both sides were willing to renegotiate his contract to make a deal to the 49ers possible.

Once the Huff trade is official and Brandon Graham’s retirement processes on June 1st, Roseman will have two open roster spots to work with. Here are 10 players that the Eagles could target as potential roster additions in the coming weeks:

Blockbuster Trade Targets

Trey Hendrickson is clearly unhappy with the Cincinnati Bengals as he continues to wait for a contract extensions. Hendrickson is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and should be rewarded as such. If the Bengals are unable to agree to a contract extension with Hendrickson, he could be on the move and the Eagles have five draft picks to offer in the first two days of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Travon Walker is coming off back-to-back double-digit sack seasons following a rough start to his NFL career. Yet there’s a new front office regime and coaching staff in Jacksonville as Waller was reportedly involved in trade rumors back in March. Walker played at Georgia with several Eagles players and Roseman loves to take chances on young players with high draft pedigree.

Kyle Pitts is reportedly a trade target for many teams as Jordan Schultz reported that the Atlanta Falcons have received calls and would need at least a day-two pick to entertain discussions. The Eagles are set to have four day two picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and a long-term need at tight end. Pitts is a Philadelphia native and would likely welcome a return home to join one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Free Agent Targets

Justin Simmons has essentially publicly campaigned to join the Eagles this offseason. While his best days are behind him, Simmons is a veteran safety that has experience working with both Vic Fangio and Christian Parker. Simmons would bring a much-needed veteran presence to Philadelphia’s safety room and immediately challenge for the starting job next to Reed Blankenship in 2025.

Za’Darius Smith isn’t the Pro Bowl edge rusher that he once was but he still has some juice to offer. Smith totaled nine sacks between his time with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions last season. Philadelphia could surely use a bigger, veteran presence on the edge and Smith would certainly check both of those boxes for the Eagles at 6’4”, 270 lbs. with 10 seasons of NFL experience under his belt.

Raekwon Davis was released by the Indianapolis Colts with a non-football illness designation in March. Davis deals with high blood pressure, which held him out of practice with the Colts to start training camp last season. Yet he was eventually cleared and able to play in all 17 games in 2024. Philadelphia is lacking a veteran presence along the defensive line and Davis excelled in his lone season under Fangio in 2023.

Kyzir White is no stranger to Philadelphia, as he started several games for the Eagles in 2022. White followed Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals after one season with the Eagles. Now White is still available on the open market as the Eagles are dealing with uncertainty at linebacker while Nakobe Dean and Jihaad Campbell both recover from major injuries. If the Eagles want to add a proven veteran at the position, White certainly fits that mold.

Other Trade Targets

Darnell Washington has settled into the TE2 role behind Pat Freiermuth for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yet the Steelers are reportedly interested in trading for Jonnu Smith and also signed Donald Parham Jr. in free agency. If Pittsburgh is willing to trade Washington, the Eagles should certainly give them a call. The 23-year-old has two year remaining on his rookie contract and spent time at Georgia with several Eagles players.

Michael Mayer is in a similar situation as Washington, as he is stuck behind Brock Bowers in Las Vegas. The Eagles don’t currently have a tight end under contract past 2025 and both Mayer or Washington have two years remaining on their rookie contracts. Mayer is a former second-round pick that has yet to reach his potential in the NFL. Yet that hasn’t scared Roseman away from taking chances on players with high draft pedigree before.

A.J. Epenesa has recorded 21.5 total sacks in five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Yet he’s heading into a contract year and Buffalo has decided to make significant investments at edge rusher in Greg Rousseau, Joey Bosa and Landon Jackson this offseason. If the Bills are willing to trade Epenesa, I could certainly see Roseman being intrigued by his combination of age (26-years old) and experience (75 games played) on the edge.

I made no mistake that I wanted Mayer for us. That said we could give him a raise from Vegas and still retain cap loot. LB is in flux until we get one or both of those back. I wouldn't be mad if we got Pitts either. I wanted him in that draft and ATL is brutally misusing him in my view, but he would take more of our cap. Let's see who else breaks free after tomorrow

We could also run some version of the Penny D........ 3DL, 3 LBs(when we get one back) 5 DB's or the Dollar D.............3DL,2 LB's, 6 DB's. 2 different looks that could confuse younger QB's. We pretty much will have the personnel to do whatever we want

Im not expecting or worried about any moves right now. The team is young, let's see who steps up first and then if there is anything needed there can be a move or two.

Make the Huff trade and enjoy the assets and Cap space for now. You have a Superbowl winner, young team, not sure major move outside of the organization is a good idea... at this time.

The question about Pitts is how good an inline blocker he is.

Let’s start small and work our way into the roster.

Long Snapper: a bit long in the tooth…..at least get a guy in to compete that’s young. Give somebody a chance.

K: Elliott just gotta play things like he’ll be just fine

P: We replaced the crap one with a kick butt P. All good!

Once we get to the end of TC to roster cut down day the picture will be much clearer. Injuries(healed up from previous and TC newly suffered).

How individuals shake out?

How units and team needs are looking(add a pass coverage off ball LB..etc.)?

Right....just like our position with the Hurts contract, no need to do anything. Take that approach as compared to having to make an impact move ...Like KC has to make urgent moves with the Mahomes contract because it wasn’t put in place the right way

Very specific

So 35 is too old to just snap the ball now? That's the first thought? Really?
