It can be whatever you want it to be...plus add 5 million per...so we can move on. 90 mil AAV..how is that?

If I’m Hurts and his agent I laugh at your $30 million for 3 years … .$90 million total, that is barely better than what Kirk Cousins gets and the same that Baker Mayfield gets. You have to do better. Justin Herbert is getting $60 million in cash this year and hot $56.6 million in 2024,

Okay let’s look at the cash page on either Spotrac or OtC and then look at the Cap page. What you are going to find is that at the end of the accounting period the cash total and the Cap total are the same dollar figure. The cash starts out high and gets low toward the end and the Cap starts low and gets high at the end. But assuming the contract isn’t prematurely terminated those two totals will always be equal.

Agsin....you worry about " the end of the period

But I'll try once again to see if it finally hits home for you.

Let's push the $97 million from Hurts down the road... 5 more years

Now we are in 2034. What is the effect of $97 mil on the 2034 cap...compared to 2025? Or even better... 2023, the start of the real money paid to Hurts?

Look back at 2016... see how the cap changed... now...do you understand that from the practical and from the ability to sign guys ( which is the only thing that matters with the cap right... is if there is room to sign guys, otherwise the cap means nothing right?)

So do you see that it's much better pushing $97 million to 2034 ...and for the next 10 seasons having Hurts take way way way less of cap hits than what Mahomes would be.

Probably not

Is that what you read? Probably why we aren't seeming to be on same page.. reread what I said about the $90 mil

Then we have nothing to talk about. You probably don’t expect Mahomes to be a Chief though 2031 either.

You said $90 million over the 3 years.

My bad. You said $90 million AAV.

Did I? Is that what $90 mil AAV means?

There you go

So that would be $270 million plus the $97 million in 2029 Dead Money that has to be spread in the Cap … $367 million total. You want to spread it with three dummy years through 2034. What numbers do you want to put in each year?

No shot of a 3 year deal with guaranteed money...you need to get off of that idea. You are trying to pigeon hole contexts finishing on 2031 or 2032...not going to happen.

I'm putting 200 million in the year 2040...how about that? You have aw much chance of that as a 3 year guaranteed money

To compare the Hurts and Mahomes contracts they need to be coterminous

it’s not a problem because once you have done that KC can move 200 million of the current Mahomes dollars out to 2040too.

I don't expect Hurts to command top money in his next contract. 4 more seasons playing with the elite talent. I think while he is seen as a guy who plays to win I don't think teams outside of the Eagles will bid high for him because I absolutely believe that the perception is he does well on this team.. but won't replicate that with another team.

He can win more SBs...and the league will ask why should we pay if the Eagles won't. They must know something. They will look at his performances without AJ... and really ask themselves do we have all the pieces to where it's worth paying him? And realize he is going to be over 30 at that point. Not old for a QB...but he us a running QB. 4 more years of that isn't going to make him more desirable.

That's not how it works at all...and that won't happen. Trying to force it makes you have to put in a contract that the Eagles will never do.

And still be way higher than Hurts deal.

I don’t disagree with you, and that is why $90 million cash each year is too much. Do you think $60 million is a reasonable estimate of what Jeff and Howie will pay him?

This is the problem you are having...you are trying to force fantasy contracts... to fit a time line. I'm trying to use reality.

But that's because I don't worry about AAV or the dead money at the end... because I've realized that all.that matters is year by year being able to have enough cap space to be functional... the increase each year in the cap...and the low cap hits in the early years of the contracts keep offsetting any dead money...in fact it allows the dead money each year to increase and in some cases be less impact on the overall cap.

For the Eagles... Hurts will have maybe one year where his cap hit is higher than Mahomes...maybe 2029...that's it. Not a doubt in my mind about that.

Mahomes right now has a total of $136 million in 2029, 2030 and 2031 combined. If you move $200 million of that out to 2040 those three years end up with minus $21 million each

No... I don't think they will want to pay that much .. do you think another team would pay him that much? Would you take that chance as another team...4 years from now?

Going to be a lot higher than $136 million once they push 2026 and 2027 down the road.

Should be over $180 mil just with that...unless they add new money

I understand not worrying about AAV, but you HAVE to worry about Dead Money.

The only way Dead Money can come down is if a contract is prematurely terminated and not all the contract is guaranteed. Only then can Dead money be reduced, but it almost never completely goes away. If Hurts gets to the end of 2028 then 100% of that $97 million Dead Money will be due. The only way it can be delayed is if the contract is extended.

Don't worry about dead money at all..not when it's 5 years out and the cap will be way higher

Okay let’s push $64 million of 26 and 27 out to 2040. So that makes Mahomes numbers as follows

2026 = $46 million

2027 = $42 million

2028 = $42 million

2029 = $45 million

2030 = $46 million

2031 = $48 million

2040 = $200 million

And Hurts numbers are

2026 = $32 million

2027 = $42 million

2028 = $47 million

2029 = $167 million divided by 3

2030 = $167 million divided by 3

2031 = $167 million divided by 3

2040 = $200 million

What does that tell you?
