No we can’t. 2028 Mahomes is a $42M Cap hit and Hurts is a $47 M Cap hit. Then 2029 Mahomes is a $74M Cap hit and Hurts is a $97M cap hit.

Matt.. we just talked about how KC has to restructure Mahomes in 2026 and 2027... that 2028 Cap number is going to go up huge.

How do you not see this?

But let's say no restructure from Mahomes and numbers stay.

Are you really puffing out your chest to make the point that Mahomes is $5 mil less in 2028 after being ... $83 million more from 2025-2027?

Really?

No I am not. Unfortunately, the $83M is offset by the $97M Dead Cap. So Hurts is behind by a total of $19M (5-83+97)

You’re way deep into that contract right now…much more than I am this second. Seemed we’d lighten his upcoming cap hits by reworking things I’d assume here next couple of seasons. But…not saying I’m totally deep into exact details about how and all. Cap hits getting very significant though.

Ham.... do you know what an option bonus is?

It's basically new money that gets spread out over 5 years. Hurts is paid with all option bonuses every year with minimal salary. There is no way to lower the cap hit. It's already lowered because all the new money gets spread out ... with the 2029 void year taking all the rest of the cap hit as the void year.

You see the cap hits go up because it's the prorations from all the previous seasons that add up.

Really not difficult to understand. Basically the contract doesn't have to change because it already has the prorations built in each year. Every pay is 1/5th the cap hit each year.

And Mahomes is playing for free? Lol

Let's say you have 2 contracts in the NFL... $10 mil each

.

One pays ...1 million for 5 years...and then a $5 mil void year 6.

The other pays $2 mil per year for 5 years?

Do you see them the same? Or do you understand how the time value of the money gives the 1st contract a huge advantage? Because of how the cap goes up each year?

Very simple... go back and look at how the cap went up from 2021- 2025.

That same principle applies to why Hurts contract is better.

But...again... very simple to see ....the Eagles have more top guys signed and can add more without a restructure from Hurts. KC doesn't have and won't have as many top guys signed..even after multiple restructures of Mahomes.

You are caught up in details and missing the big picture.

No, he is playing for $42M while Hurts is playing for $144M … the Cap hit for the year plus the Dead Cap

Which you clearly said that the Eagles weren't doing it the right way...just playing not to lose, not building anything.

Yeah still really feel that way. But it still worked out. We got far enough at the last second.

I mean I was of the opinion are O had the the talent to score 50…which when finally allowed to…did exactly that.

Yeah..,that’s what happened. But then things changed for whatever reasons come Steelers game. I think Rosie got involved and made sure Moore took back control right then is what happened.

See this logic is flawed though. Cap does go up. But so do salaries. So everything goes hand in hand.

And let's say the Eagles decide to keep Hurts in 2029... with minimal additional cap hit ...meanwhile Mahomes will have another big cap hit. Same for 2030 and 2031

Eagles set up much better ... again if they decide to keep Hurts. Really not worried about him deciding to leave.

Plus things aren’t all equal. See could just take on the cap hit more initially. See the problem that arises is that cap money getting spent almost either way.

See you saying hey..,I’ll spend tomorrow’s money for today sounds great in a bubble. But everything costs so much more and you’ve saddled more on there. Where if you actually double whammy and take on more cap hit initially without capping out then you are getting ahead of things for the future instead.

Jurgens contract set up same way. Really all of them ...but the QB numbers being the highest paid guys...they have the most effect on the cap. You do the QB the right way, it helps the most.

He isn't going to be playing for $42 mil...because they are going to have to restructure and push a lot of money down the road....lol. come on now.

How do you still remain ignorant even after watching how they dominated at the end? You think that was just luck....you seriously don't see how they were getting better each week...with Carolina the exception?

But it's not flawed..because in my example I gave the salaries.

In both cases Jeffrey Lurie is out $10 million. So no difference there. Now let’s calculate the time value of money difference between the two. In year one the cash flow difference is $1 million. At a 2% annual inflation rate that gives the first scenario a $10K advantage. In year two the cash flow difference is up to $2 million and the advantage adds $20K to the $10K. Year three adds another $30K and year 4 adds another $40K. So a total aggregate advantage of $100K over the 4 years. $100K out of $10 million is a 1% advantage … meaningful but not substantial. However, in Year five the first scenario has to come up with $2 million but the second scenario has to come up with $6 million, so $40k of the $100K evaporates. So the net difference is $60K out of $10 million, which amounts to a 0.6 % difference … again meaningful, but even less substantial.

You just don't get it. You don't get the idea of the rolling cap. I think it's because you want to spend the money up to the limit each year with the idea that it's all in.

40-22 (really 40-6 without the garbage time points) was”far enough at the last second”?

O is less than half of the game and less than half of the team.

Matt... you are overthinking.

Do you trust Howie when it comes to money?

He is using these exact principles to keep staying ahead of the cap.

Time value is a huge factor. It's why $97 mil in 2029 is no where close to $97 mil now. When looking at cap effects.
