I mean our strategy of paying QBs hasn’t worked out for us either Mcnabb no SBs, Wentz no SBs once he was paid, Hurts got the extension technically but swear thought he was still getting paid his final rookie year wages when we won the SB I could be mistaken on the timeline for Hurts( but he was still dirt cheap for a QB).

Now his contract is ballooning we suck again.

Hurts drafted in 2020... 4 year rookie deal that expired in 2023. Extended after 2022 while still on rookie deal...but didn't win until 5th year....2nd year after the new contract was given.

That's the question... if the rookie is building after 3 years but doesn't win it yet... do you pay to finish the job, knowing the cap hits don't kick in until a few years later...or do you start over?

The other thing... maybe we just haven't had an elite QB lately??? But paid them elite...which always ends up bad at the end!

My timeline was off… truly don’t have an answer lol it’s a strategy I don’t think a team will ever truly try…. But if one could pull it off Howie is that guy.

Hurts was a 2nd rounder so no 5th year option makes him slightly different then say a 1st rounder with that 5th year option would that alter things.

I’d image you extend to finish the job to answer the question but how much and how long do you extend would be my next question.

The elite QBs just seem so rare though nowadays who in the NFL today would we really call elite.

Mahomes

Josh Allen- can we even say Josh all the talent sure but has folded when it matters and he has had some really good teams.

Burrow- think if he was given half the OL Hurts has had majority of his time here Burrow would have won a SB or two but that just speculation on my part.

At this point feel like the odds Howie can build the best roster in football around an adequate QB and win it all is better then us truly finding an elite QB worth paying

Jake Majors and Carson Steele both got signed to the active roster.

Was going to need Majors either way but still concerned Kendall might not play

Kendall is ruled out already

Allen for sure... look at his record. His defense has been brutal the games they lost in the playoffs. 4 of them to Mahomes.

Burrow... OL and defense have been issues.

To me...after those 3 the rest are overpaid.

I feel he won 2 Superbowls with backup QBs.... who else can say that?

In Wentz's defense, he put us in position to make a SB run. What was amazing was how we won it all with less talent than we have now. McNabb-we were in the SB just didn't win it so it wasn't a totally lost effort. I think the QB factory strategy is as good as any. Draft QB's from time to time as picks allow, pick up FA's from time to time, see if any are the next coming. I suppose all teams are doing this now. The innovation of the tush push and the fact we had the O line that could pull that off got us a nice enough record to take another stab at it. The 2024 team was supremely talented everywhere. Still with things as they are I don't see prolonged periods of being stuck at .500 like we used to be. I could eat crow on that stance later, but after Howie took himself to school the drafted players are alot, well I can't say better, but more consistently decent at least(no more MS2's or Reagors). As usual I expect too much I suppose, like a round 1 player making an immediate impact. Still too early to know if lemon is that, but wow, Stowers lack of "getting it" was kind of a shock for me. IDK if his injury is real or fabricated as we know all teams do it. I love underdogs like Darius. IDK what the future will bring, but it's disappointing the amount of injuries we seem to have. Now we get to see if any stars are going to be born from the rubble we call a roster LOL(Yikes)

IDK reading if we lose(which we should) and Wicks may not [play now that Siri will be on the hot seat. IDK how that is fair, coaches need players to play not sit in the mash tent eating up paychecks. How can you judge Mannion or Hurts? Same deal. They can't do their jobs with ghost players

Ok I missed this well that sucks we already were thin on the OL.

Wentz passed for 4k with PS WRs before. 49ers have went through a blender numerous times with injuries and we have seen them find success especially on offense with Shanahan.

Should still be plenty of tape out there to judge the guys on even with less talent…. I know I enjoy watching Nick Foles podcast especially when he breakdown passing concepts used by Mannion… highlights open WRs that are missed or why Hurts threw a ball etc.

Also for better or worse this honestly the best opportunity for young guys to actually play. Likely never see Lampkin or Majors play if not for injuries they might suck but might be good.

Darius Cooper has had his opportunity to shine thanks to injuries likely doesn’t get that thanks to us having spent a 1st on Lemon and and extension to Wicks

Jalen Hurts has nowhere to hide in Eagles' season-definin...

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is facing more pressure than anyone in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars from London.

The above is why I hate writers. They hype this game as "season defining" with a loss. How RIDICULOUS 5 weeks in. Sorry JERKS 2-3 is not "season defining" Lord give me a bat and 15 minutes with these nitwits

Goedert will play, Ertz will play on his last call up. Look for alot of 12 and 13 personnel sets. Jag will play mostly Zone. With a bashed u[p O line Hurts needs to make snap decision and get the ball away. My fear here is he can't so that. If he stares down 1 guy he's going to get picked off. Running game will be spotty to non existent barring some meaningful play calling. We somehow have to avoid constant 3 and outs. Now we find out if our staff and QB are worth anything

MHJ from the Cards apparently got traded but teams won’t announce it until after the week 5 games

Houston or TB would be my top 2

Wouldn’t image either of those 2 are buying anyone right now both being what 0-4 and 1-3…. I would think it’s a team that atleast competitive right now trying to boost the WR room.

But the way AZ and the other team is hiding the trade details makes it feel like something bigger might be part of the deal

Saying Hurts is now dealing with a calf injury even though still been a full participant at practice…. Something to watch for in the Jags game with him likely having to be more mobile in the pocket with the new look OL

If you have a young WR already and plan to get a new QB what better way than to pair them with a 4 year contracted star on the other side? TB found their next QB(see kicking Dullaz arse) That's how you build a franchise. QB basically free for 4 years Now you have your QB,your #1 and 2 WR, you have Bucky Irving. Sounds like a nice start to me. TB works for that trade buddy. Houston is another option. TB is 1-3 BTW, why not start building for next year? At 1-3 you can't say your year is over quite yet. Not the start you hoped for but it's a LONG season. Meantime you have Mayfield who needs another weapon

  • Author

https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/tb Godwin starting to run our of gas. Daniels proved he can replace Mayfield. They have Bucky and our boy Gainwell. Makes perfect sense for TB to snag MHJ. Egbuka is excellent and will be around for years. Otton not the best TE but solid. Bucs could also pick up Dalton as QB 3 for the remainder of the year

  • Author

Not saying MHJ will go there, but it would make perfect sense if he did

IDK who is going to get Jeremiah Smith, the WR from OSU,but they will get one of the bet WR's I have seen
