My biggest concern in the NFC is still the Lions, as I could see them winning a shootout against us.

Do you really think this Eagles Defense is vulnerable to a shootout performance by the opposing Offense?  I don’t.

My biggest fear is Daniels and his scrambling/running ability coupled with McLaurin’s skills/ability.  That is a wild card.  Absent wild cards, the Eagles Defense is dominant, and will dominate.

Big, strong arm and fast are tools. His accuracy is fine. He just needs to play a lot more.

His ball placement today has been poor, even on some completions.   On that last drive, for example, he threw way high to the outlet along the sidelines, forcing the receiver to have to climb the ladder just to catch it, and eliminated almost any chance for YAC.

We haven't faced anything like Detroit's offense. I know the Ravens had the top offense, but Detroit just attacks everywhere. It would be a great macthup.

I don't fear Daniels at all. We gave that game away.

He may be another Malik Willis who fans and draft sites inexplicably had as a 1st rounder, and the NFL was wise enough to not do that.

Sure.  Will he last to Rd3?   Sounds like he could be the guy at #1 overall.   And I wouldn't touch him there.

Day 3 player. Rd 5-7

So, Nick brought up letting DeVonta set the Eagles' rookie receiving record in 2021 while everyone else sat in week 18. I wonder if he'd consider playing Saquon behind backup lineman and see if he breaks a couple big runs early? I think that would be a mistake, but I am more worried about Lane or Jordan getting dinged than Barkley since both of them have had injury issues this year (Lane concussion but also 34, Jordan was on IR). I'd also like to see AJ shut down with his lingering knee issue, and DeVonta and his hamstring. And then there is Jalen's concussion.

Maybe the middle ground is you let Barkley dress, play backups on defense and at the skill positions, QB and tackle, and see if he rips off some gains early. I 100% think you rest everyone on defense.

I don't think it's worth it, but it's one way to approach it.

They don't have a big enough roster to sit everyone.  And you only get 2 PS elevations.  It will be very interesting to see who plays and who sits.   I'll predict this... Huff definitely plays.

Another terrible pass to start the drive.

No matter what we do, here's my list of absolutely must rest for week 18.

Offense: Hurts, Pickett, AJ, Smitty, Lane. I would also sit Jordan, but I feel like he'll push to play if Barkley is playing.

Defense: Carter, Davis, Williams, N. Smith, Sweat, Dean, Baun, Q, Slay, Coop, CJGJ and Reed (so basically all the starters)

When they put the Tarantula onto Daniel Stern's face in the first movie, his reaction was probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a movie. It still makes me LMAO every single time I see it.

He is such an awesome human too…my first deployment he came around Christmas to visit in Baghdad.  He looked like he was straight out of the home alone movie too, sweatpants/sweatshirt and the scraggly beard.  His eyes lit up when i saw him at our chow hall and i just yell ‘MARV?!?! The wet water bandit?!”.  I ended up spending a good couple hours chatting with him since I was working that night at a place where he could be.

They both have good OCs, but det is a bigger threat in that way.

key to stopping minny is to negate jefferson

Obviously depending on how things shake out, the Eagles could play the Vikings in the divisional round if they're the 5 seed, but the Lions have not been great at home this year.

2 vs 5 would only happen if 5 beats 4 and 6 beats 3 and 2 beats 7.  I can see the NFC South champion losing to the Vikings, but the Rams losing to 6 is much less likely.

Thoughts?

That's a great line too. Home Alone/HA2 and Rookie of the Year he was fantastic.

HOT ICE! You heat up the ice cubes…it’s the best of both worlds.

I think the tell that he won’t go for it this week is they immediately shut him down after he crossed 2,000. If the intent is for him to break it, they would have kept him in to make the margin smaller for this week.

He was already over 30 carries though. Why push him towards 40 when they were already up by 5 TD’s.

That kick keeps Alabama on life support.   But, its not looking good, and regardless of the final outcome... the debate about them belonging in the playoff can be retired.   There's no argument.  Alabama is overrated.

Yeah, in 2021 they had the COVID exceptions, and everyone miraculously got COVID that week...

D Line: Ojomo and Booker at DT, Huff and Hunt on the edge. Call up Gabe Hall and Gabe Jackson. The top 5 guys don't touch the field.

LB: Trotter and Burks play every snap.

Secondary: Ringo and Ricks outside, Maddox in the slot, Brown and McCollum at safety. Rodgers if you run dime.

Offensive Line: If Barkley plays, then F Johnson, Dickerson, Jurgens, Becton, Driscoll. If he doesn't play, Gates at C, Kinnard at T and move Driscoll to G. Or play Steen.

WR: Dotson, A. Smith and Wilson.

TE: Jenkins and Uzomah.

QB: McKee and Book.

Addison isn't a slouch and you can try that and then they burn you with the other receiver open like they did to gb

This is a bad bad Michigan team too

I don't know much about Ben Johnson, but my gut says he's gonna have a Steichen-like path. Found the absolute perfect fit as an OC, will be a blah head coach. We'll see.

If it was Steichen who recommended Anthony Richardson at #4 overall, shame on him.  I suspect, though, it was Irsay and Ballard which means Steichen took the wrong head coaching vacancy.  Very few head coaching candidates actually have their choice of many different openings; you strike the iron that’s hot.

Just like with draft prospects, a lot of the success of first time head coaches are dependent on where they land.  I would give Robert Saleh a chance in another environment, for example.

I don't disagree... but I brought it up because I've heard him discussed as a potential #1 overall pick.   Nothing I've seen today says he's remotely close to that guy.   Maybe that's just a signal for how weak this draft class is.

Very weak…the best prospect by a large margin (and should be the #1 pick if the Pats stay put) is Will Campbell.  He might be the best LT prospect I’ve seen in quite a few years.

Happy New Year blog!
