Seeing a QB suck in a Jets uniform is never surprising.

I'm only half joking when I say we should sign Zach Wilson and bring him to camp next summer.

Wilson has a spoiled rich boy (wealthy family and his uncle started JetBlue) mentality to him that I can do without. He has a lot of talent, but I'm not sure he'll have the dedication, maturity, and work ethic to get past that and be another Darnold.

Agreed. I don’t feel like they have a glaring weakness anywhere. I would like the pass rush to be a bit better, but I don’t think it’s terrible either.

Given that Fangio primarily rushes with the four DL in his light box, I believe the pass rush is outstanding.  They clearly apply pressure on the QB.  They are top 10 in Sacks in the NFL, so even given their schematic limitations they do get home frequently. They are now in the top 5 in Net Turnovers.

Look at the Cowboys game as an illustration.  Only one Sack, but Rush and Lance were constantly under pressure, with very little time to go through progressions.

Could the pass rush be better?  Definitely.  But, as currently configured it is highly productive.

Yeah I don’t envy Nick this week.  Lane was the only player in the locker room (who I heard, anyway), that was talking about playing it safe.  Maybe he will persuade the others, but I have a feeling most of the players want them to go for it.

Risk of injury is one factor. Risk of player discontent is the counterbalancing "other” factor.  It is a conundrum.

I'm rooting for the Lions this weekend. My logic:

I think the Lions are the better team than the Vikings, but I think the Lions are also more equipped to win on the road than the Vikings. I think I'd rather play the Lions in Detroit than the Vikings in Minnesota. The Lions with Campbell and their OL and ability to run the ball feel like a team more built for cold weather than the Vikings. I think the Vikings coming to Philly in the NFCCG if it came to that, they would not handle that well.

Obviously depending on how things shake out, the Eagles could play the Vikings in the divisional round if they're the 5 seed, but the Lions have not been great at home this year.

The hardest possible matchup for us the rest of the way is @ Detroit. Give me the Vikings this weekend.

Rodgers' falloff has been such a weird thing to witness

I haven’t found it to be weird at all.  He clearly lost it mentally … both of the field and on it … and the quality of play simply followed the quality of his thinking.

they should have just let Barkley break that record last week in the kellys.

That was my thinking at the time as well.

It's close the Lions have two losses this year in Detroit and almost lost one to Chicago. Meanwhile the Vikings only lost one game at home this year and it was to the Lions but barely. The Vikings are way better at home than they're on the road, but the Lions are about the same both home and away. I think the Vikings have a better HFA, but I think the Lions are a better team. The Eagles won a SB in that stadium in Minny, but they haven't beaten the Vikings there in years and it was in a different stadium last time they did. Feels like every time they play the Vikings in Minny it goes horribly wrong.

I think it’s always weird when you watch somebody have greatness for years all of a sudden just not have it anymore. I don’t think he’s gonna retire, cause I think they’ll be a team that believes in a better situation that Rodgers can be that guy. I think he’s toast.

Frankly I thought Green Bay should’ve traded him after they lost to SF in divisional round the year before. Felt like it just had ran its course and Green Bay could’ve cashed in for even more. That said his last handful games with Green Bay weren’t all that impressive. He look like he was starting to decline. Then he had the Achilles last year. A guy in his 40s having an Achilles you’re not gonna come back the same. There’s guys in their 20s and early 30s that don’t.

Yeah but 99.9% of the times those guys don't become edgelords at the exact time they start to decline

This is the only thing that makes sense to me. The arm's still there, the athleticism is still fine though nowhere near what it used to be. Mental toll of injuries and his personal life...

Gross.

I still think the light gray or silver should be the alternate color, use a kelly green number with white outline and I think that would be a nice option.

If they switch to Smith for the playoffs that’s just asking for a disaster

Shouldn't be switching at all now.  Although I guess someone can get a nice audition against the giants.

I think the tell that he won’t go for it this week is they immediately shut him down after he crossed 2,000. If the intent is for him to break it, they would have kept him in to make the margin smaller for this week.

Sometimes i actually think he’s playing on acid

I’ve been leading the bandwagon to get DeJean off punts because he has one of the most important jobs on the team, which is keeping Maddox off the field and seeing snaps. You can’t risk that to injury. But with Covey shut down now, they might as well ride it out with him back there for the playoffs.

Don’t think the howie part would happen in a million years nor should he want to work with/for woody Johnson

Why name your kid Rick when you can name him Brick?

With Covey out, they need a backup PR. It should be Ainias Smith.

At the same time, Cooper should take every single punt return the rest of the way.

Yeah.  And I wish they would have.  He could have had it down to like 30 yards and been done after a quarter this week.

Except this week, which may be what Clay was referring to.

Curious as to who people think is going to be the more sustainable team going forward between the Lions and Vikings. I’d take the lions.  would think on overall talent and quarterback it would be the Lions. But I’m not so sure once Ben Johnson leaves that Dan Campbell is good enough as a coach to make up for that. They would have to find another offensive coordinator that can maximize that talent. Plus, Hutchinson, Gibbs and a couple other guys have to be paid within the next two years.

Looking at Minnesota their head coach a good offensive minded guy. They’re not relying offensively on an offensive coordinator to be really good. O’Connell is the man behind the operation. they likely will worse defensively because I think Brian Flores is gonna wind up getting a head coaching coaching job sometime over the next couple years.

id take the lions but i do it cause Goff behind a good oline has shown he can be consistently good. I’m not sure Sam darnold puts together another year like he has or what his future in Minnesota is with McCarthy there.
