Gross.

Of the big 3 in the AFC, we match up best against the Bills. They're just so small on defense we'll run them over AND they don't have a single WR who can threaten our DBs.

Could be true. I thought they had no WRs letting Diggs and Gabriel go. Though theyve managed pretty well on offense maybe our DBs do match up well with them.

Still dont fear KC this year.

they should have just let Barkley break that record last week in the kellys.

OK, this has to come with the disclaimer that I predicted the Vikings would suck (I had them at 4-13, but I thought the rookie would be playing), but I think they are comically overrated. And now we're seeing the national media, that basically had them on pumpkin watch all year, turn and try to act like they are favorites. Here are their wins over teams with winning records:

Texans (week 3) -- the Texans would be below 0.500 if they didn't play in the worst division in the league.

Packers (week 4 and 17) -- the Packers haven't beaten anyone good all year (0-5 against Det/Min/Phi). Their only wins against teams with winning records are beating the Rams (no Puca or Kupp in that game), Texans and Seahawks (not making playoffs).

Seahawks (week 15) -- 9 win team that won't make the playoffs.

The truth is, the entire NFC North (other than the Bears) got to feast on 2 of the weakest divisions in the game (AFC South and NFC West). The Vikings have played 3 teams in the NFC playoff field and are 2-2, but both wins are over the Packers who also rode an easy schedule to the playoffs. They are the #12 offense and #16 defense by yards, but 9th on offense and 4th on defense for scoring - that kind of gap is abnormal and not sustainable.

Don’t think the howie part would happen in a million years nor should he want to work with/for woody Johnson

0.0% chance that Howie would trade Lurie for Woody Johnson. I know he grew up in Brooklyn and north NJ, but no shot in hell. Howie knows he can only do what he does with manipulating the cap thanks to Lurie, and he has basically total control here with limited interference.

Theyre not good.

The eagles have shown they can slip up against lesser teams.

But, if they show up focused, theres no one they cant beat.

The only team that really seems to have their number in the NFC is the Buccs. But I dont really fear them.

Id be concerned if the rams are really dialed in on offense. But we are a much better team.

The Lions are clearly the biggest threat, but I feel our defense can slow their offense considering their best weapon in the passing game is a slot WR.

We might lose to the weakest opponent we get, but theres also no one we shouldnt beat.

As I said yesterday... which is a main reason why the idea of rewriting the playoff seeding is foolish.  The difference in the schedules makes a true comparison unreasonable.  So, division winners get the nod in the seeding, and then wild cards get the leftovers.   It's really quite simple.

Honestly, the only team in the NFC that should scare us is us.  If we come to play and don't make silly mistakes we go to the SB.

Correct.  Same was true in 2022.  The Super Bowl swung on an unforced turnover, and the DC deciding to take the week off to break league rules and get his next gig rather than prepare properly for AR and Mahomes.  Jonathon Gannon will forever be a bigger villain to me than the butter fingery LJ Smith, who also cost us a Super Bowl with his horrific play in the '04 Super Bowl.

We can all agree that there are some wild card teams on occasion who are so far ahead in record that you can make a strong case for them getting home field.  This year either the Vikings or Lions will have such a case.  However, the norm will be that the difference in record is only 1 or 2 games and then those schedule variances really defeat the logic in simply reseeding based on record.  As you say, it is quite simple and both of us laid out the arguments yesterday across multiple posts.

My biggest concern in the NFC is still the Lions, as I could see them winning a shootout against us. After that, I'd say the team that scares me the most is actually the Packers -- they're young enough to just somehow pull off a crazy offensive game (like last year in Dallas), and Love has talent but is highly variable. Minnesota, LA, TB and Washington don't scare me that much. I already went through Minnesota, but LA is living off Stafford's reputation -- they have scored 12, 19, 13, 13 and 13 in their last 5 games since putting a 40 burger on the Bills (who have a terrible defense). Guys like Orlovsky will go on TV and talk about their explosive offense, but there's no evidence to back it up. I know everyone is scared of TB after last year and this year, but we didn't have AJ in either game. The team as a whole was cooked in the playoffs last year (we wouldn't have beaten anyone), and we were missing AJ, Smitty and Lane in week 4. And Washington? Don't make me laugh.

An ideal scenario is we win round 1 and get the Rams in round 2, leaving the Vikings and Lions to face off in the divisional round.

'22 will forever be a deep scar that never really goes away but for me the '02 loss will always be just a little bit worse.  Maybe it was the fact that it was the last game in the Vet or something or maybe the '17 win just made '22 a bit easier to deal with.

Agree

maybe if johnson made him part owner…

The Lions look good, particularly the offense.  Goff finally got his chance to prove himself worthy of the #1 overall pick of his draft.  He was traded by the team drafted him for a QB that won a SB for them.  That must have hurt his feeling then.  The #2 pick of that draft, Went, has fallen to be just a back-up QB.

Saw it on the NFL Network that the winningest HCs since 2023 season, the Lions coach is the only one not has any connection with the Eagles.  Siri is among them, but AR's coaching tree has a strong showing on the list.

I truly am sick of reading all the hand wringing about the Lions, Vikings and Bucs.   To win a Super Bowl, you have to beat good teams... dare I say, great teams.  So...

Eagles could have to face both. WC weekend if Eagles, Vikings and Commanders win, Eagles vs Vikings is the NFCDG

Whoever loses the week 18 game between the Vikings and Lions, if they have to go to Tampa in round 1, will lose. That's my bold prediction.

He’s 41 and had his fair share of injuries. Not that surprising.

Maybe. I wouldn’t bet the Commanders beat the Rams either.

Seeing a QB suck in a Jets uniform is never surprising.

I'm only half joking when I say we should sign Zach Wilson and bring him to camp next summer.

If I am thinking correctly the only possible divisional round opponents would be Lions, Vikings, Rams, Bucs if Packers stay the 7th seed and Bucs win the South.

I'm rooting for the Lions this weekend. My logic:

I think the Lions are the better team than the Vikings, but I think the Lions are also more equipped to win on the road than the Vikings. I think I'd rather play the Lions in Detroit than the Vikings in Minnesota. The Lions with Campbell and their OL and ability to run the ball feel like a team more built for cold weather than the Vikings. I think the Vikings coming to Philly in the NFCCG if it came to that, they would not handle that well.

Obviously depending on how things shake out, the Eagles could play the Vikings in the divisional round if they're the 5 seed, but the Lions have not been great at home this year.

They did alright in LA vs the Rams with better WR and a pretty good offensive mind. A lot of teams have let Detroit off the hook this year and I expect the defense to be up to the task. Their issues have been against lesser teams vs Pitt/Balt/LA. Maybe that's a mental issue not being as focused, but they are going to hear all week how good the Lions offense is and I think the defense will welcome that challenge. Carter and Williams with two weeks to rest will be an issue for them.

What Hurts does on the other side....we'll see.
