Mahomes is the king of tip-toeing on the sideline looking to draw a flag. QBs are gaming and taking advantage of the player safety rules. The Trevor Lawrence hit was dirty but he was in that situation because he slid way too late.

That was one thing the bombastic Rex Ryan said that I agreed with; QBs are actually safer if they fall forward to get down, rather than sliding feet-first.

100%.

It goes along the line of thinking as Aikman saying that there would be fewer head to head collisions if they didn't wear helmets.   The slide rule gives them the illusion of protection... if they had to protect themselves, they'd be a lot more careful in how they do it.

Wow.  That's a pretty damning picture... and just goes to show that he's a moron.   On that play the only contact he made with that guy was that slap.

@mikemack8  I stand corrected.   Looks to not be post-possession after all.

I knew it was close - there's a clip going around that shows him slap the dude and the ball flying through the air shortly after.  Again, don't think it ultimately would have made a difference but we caught a break there.  We've had plenty not go our way this year though so we were due.

I can't WAIT for the day someone REALLY takes that pussyfooting btch out.  Seeing he limped off the field yesterday and is being called "week to week" - like he isn't gonna go running out there this week without any kind of limp at all.  Biggest drama queen in the league.

He cries to the refs constantly, was a sore loser against the Bills last year and complained to Allen about the refs instead of congratulating him, whined about the one time the refs made a call against them that cost a game ironically not bothered when it constantly goes in their favor. Watching the Netflix QB series he was annoying af. He's entitled, spoiled and has never had to be on a losing team with talent around him and struggle. He's a good player but I hate his attitude. At least Tom Brady I respected him even if I didn't always like him.

The most important thing Smith's progress has provided is an example of being patient the next time the haters start throwing "Bust" around 3 games into a rookie's season.

Been saying this for a year now. Anyone with a brain knew he was a total project as a pass rusher coming into the league.

It’s pretty close based off some of the pics I’ve seen on Twitter. But definitely boneheaded on Carter’s part cause it very well could’ve been called that other way. That said we’ve been getting hosed on calls all year so I’ll take a game where we don’t

He was bullied on that by Carter lol

They need to eliminate the slide.  QBs slide late because they believe they will be protected.  They do not protect themselves and so they get lit up constantly.   Eliminate the slide, force the QBs to protect themselves, and it would lead to a lot less of these head to head collisions.   The feet first slide actually LEADS to these collisions being head to head, because it drops their head into the zone (the only zone, btw) that the defenders are allowed to aim for... the chest/waist area.

Eliminate the slide rule and nearly all of these things go away naturally as a consequence.  The QBs will be looking for a soft place to get down rather than waiting until the last moment believing they will be protected.   And that extra 2 yards or whatever just isn't worth them taking the punishment that they will know is coming for them.  They will look to get down much much quicker... or they will be bracing for impact.    Either way is better/safer.

Yup - aside from the slide dropping the head into the hit zone, a lot of times the QB also bounces the back of their head off the turf.  That double tap ain't good.

We got some MASSIVE breaks with officiating yesterday - we still likely win that game, but the non-offsetting penalties with the Slay blocking out of bounds scrum, and Carter btch-slapping that dude being called after the play (it wasn't) were huge.  Nice to have some go our way for a change.

Yes, the dust up surprised me since Slay was throwing haymakers with a ref right there.

He didn't let go 🤷‍♂️

I'm saying that Lane can't be surprised that riding his guy wide like that led to his QB being sacked.   It happens... a lot... with this team.

Lane bears zero responsibility for the sack.

Full stop.

If we can’t be surprised by the QB doing something stupid, that’s on the QB.

Also shouldn't the hip drop tackle on Brown been flagged? It was textbook. Even had the swivel

He is the Sidney Crosby of football.

Apparently they're not calling it this year, just handing out fines.

Pittsburgh loaded the box early. The had a 5-4 alignment on several plays and a 4-6 on several others. Counters work when you get the front 7 flowing one way and go against the flow. With the Steelers selling out to stop the run there was nothing to counter. Moore dialed up plays attacking behind the second level. Intermediate throws.

Exactly.  Nick wasn't entirely wrong in saying they had to pass though I'm sure there was also a plan to get the WRs more targets no matter what.

I feel like the official interpreted it as he was trying to get Washington to let go at that point. Probably still should’ve been called offsetting by the fact he did swing punches. The fact Washington kept going and can see the official rule the play over whistle when he’s midway through the end zone and took that block all the way too the wall was ridiculous. I’m guessing he was trying to send a message but in turn helped the eagles more penalty wise and bringing a close unit to even closer

Yup that was missed. it was pretty clear too and happening right in front of the official on the sideline. It was an exactly the type of tackle they are trying to get rid of.

Oops. Definitely before the kick. My bad. Refs’ bad too.

He always makes a bunch of big plays late in the season

I think it's just cause he's fresher than everyone else on the field at that point.

Most of the year,  every year he stinks.

It was a similar thing with Boston Scott.  I think you underestimate the value of having a guy like that to call on who you can trust late in the year.

Makes sense. Well not really but as much as you expect from the league

Hurts scares the crap out of me when he takes off, but he tends to do a good job of getting down before contact.

Nah sorry Lawrence didn't slide late the defender had long enough to avoid the hit, and could definitely have avoided leading with the forearm to the head, part of the reason he got suspended is because he's a repeat offender, even Texans fans are sick of Al Shaair's ish.

So? It’s not often refs let players throw closed fist punches regardless of what prompted it. It’s usually the guy that retaliates that gets called. It was definitely a penalty on them but I’m still surprised they didn’t offset it.

I haven’t seen a flag for that once this year in any game tho. Can’t expect it when they have been consistently not calling it
