Was it ever explained why Barkley was taken out for majority of the 2nd quarter? I saw a report saying he broke something but that couldn't be possible since he did come back into the game

He got whacked on the knee/hip by Minka - figured that smarts.

The WAS/DAL/NYG defenses are at the bottom of average yards per carry - so he’ll have some easier sledding moving forward, of course, he might be sharing more snaps with Kenny G ahead of the playoffs.

I'm calling it now: Detroit loses in CHi on Sunday: partly cloudy with a high of 28 degrees.  Likely a little wind to cool it off just a touch more.  Minnesota loses to a desperate Seattle team as well.  51 degrees with 70% chance of rain. Both games set up perfectly for dome teams to lose.

It was something on that hit that he was flipped over. Plus the passing game was clicking so well, maybe he just let the guys shine yesterday.   We still ran the ball and put up over 130 yards on that hardcore Steelers Defense but it was between Saquon, Jalen and Kenny.  He was one explosive run from 100 but the game wasn't really in doubt. Plus he still played the 2nd half.  Speaking of Kenny, he really looked fresh out there.   Again I think he's fine.

The ball was snapped at the 27 and Watt looped around all the way at the 15. Every RT on the planet is getting "beat” there if the QB takes a deep drop and then inexplicably drops back two extra yards instead of stepping up in the pocket.

That sack was 100 percent on Jalen.

My definite impression, absent the All-22, is that Watt beat Lane half a dozen times in the game. Obviously, they did not all end in sacks but I thought Watt gave Lane all he wanted and then some. I'll report back when the All-22 comes out.

Kenny G has had some really nice plays this year, could he be worth retaining? He's not some huge talent but he's competent in all three phases of rb

AJ Brown is a dog. The only negative thing about him is he cares too much. Every year the media tries to drum up something with him and the team, and every year he gives them a "shut the F up" game.

He hasn't been bad by any means and had a nice game yesterday, but Im not sure they keep him

Why is that so negative? Without his voice last week I don't know if we see a 1st quarter like that.

I like how this team is talking through things, coaches and players. Never be complacent.

What can tilt the Minnesota tiebreaker in our favor?  That’s what’s statistically killing us.

One scenario is Minnesota losing a game between now and the finale and then beating Detroit.  But if they lose one game, they are going to rest for the finale against Detroit because they’ll be locked into 5.  So that scenario is a dead end.

2 loss Minnesota beating 2 loss Detroit doesn’t do us any favors if they have the tie breaker.

So it all comes down to SF vs Detroit unless we can flip that Minnesota tiebreaker.

A bunch of games, actually... Pittsburgh over KC, Carolina over Cardinals, Washington over Falcons, etc.   Basically, any team we beat beating a team we lost to or didn't play will help us.   We need all our opponents that we beat to win, and opponents that Minnesota beat to lose.

The Eagles, Lions and Vikings all have the potential to win 15 games with 3 games to go (Vikings play tonight).  This is a crazy season.  Something is telling me the Eagles can get this #1 Seed by sweeping the NFC East. Like the Lions, Minny will drop one of these.  Bears Division Game, Seattle is in must win situation next week.

I truly think he has trouble sometimes seeing over and around our mammoth Oline.

He’s been excellent, if under the radar.

Sets the edge HARD. Last night had 4 of our 8 pressures, a sack, and a deflected pass.

This kid is turning into a player…

Thanks.

Also, any thoughts on why we didn't much counter yesterday?

So, essentially, the plan should be to beat washington next week.  Then, heading into the Dallas/NYG stretch, it may be time to make some business decisions based on how things are looking.

No way — Lane took Watt as wide as you could reasonably expect. That’s a win 100% of the time because you expect the QB to step up in the pocket, not drop even deeper than the tackle to give the DE an angle.

On paper, that's true.  But, we've seen time and time again that Hurts floats too deep in the pocket rather than stepping up.  So, Lane should expect that Hurts will be floating backwards, not stepping up.  Its his MO.   It may not be the way its taught, but that's what happens more often than not.  So, riding the DE around the outside doesn't usually work as well with Hurts as it does other QBs.  It just doesn't.  Lane bears some responsibility on that, as does Hurts.

Crow to eat for me. I was so down on him coming in to this year. Was making what if claim regarding Joey Porter Jr. and taking him instead. Boy, Nolan Smith is looking fast and explosive. He's looking like the stud at UGA. Taking him instead of Porter also led to Mitchell and DeJean. Three young studs on D.

Yup.  The idea that Lane was perfect in the game seems a bit extreme.

Siri says here they weren't trying to pass more, they did a good job against Barkley & they would have run more if he were breaking more runs.

I don’t believe that at all. They came out the gate passing

I was singing his praises all night.

Not only has he improved, but his energy is such a boost for the defense. Guy is constantly talking sht and getting fired up

It depends on how things break.   We can't get ahead of Detroit without them losing a game, but with Minnesota, its just a matter of how other games go.   We need Dallas, Washington, Giants, Carolina, Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Ravens, Packers to win games... and we need Falcons, Bucs, and teams that Minny beat that we didn't play to lose games.

We can reevaluate after Week 17 concludes... but there's still a chance.   If Detroit drops a game in the mean time, that door widens significantly.

You never know.  Detroit is pretty banged up

Yeah but they’ve done that several times in weeks prior - just with no success.  The one week they started the game off passing to Covey & Campbell I think.
