Any guesses on where Shawn Smith (the head referee in yesterday's game) is from?

Same ref in the 2020 Seattle playoff game where Wentz took the cheap shot to the head by Clowney.

Offense put up the points. Hurts only put up 7 points on his watch. You can't use "If".  Pickett anx the O put up a winning effort score.

Really came down to the defense.

This was the Falcons game all over. Bad drop by a good player and the defense falling flat when we needed them the most.

Only getting 4 FGs in the second half wasn't good enough.  That kept Washington in the game.

One thing I was kind of shocked about and can't believe the announcers didn't mention it that the Commanders were still in the game and won the game after committing 5 turnovers.  To me that is pretty preposterous.  Commentates must have missed that.

I totally missed that too.

I don't think Manning has any incentive to leave college until after he is a senior.  I think they used this season as a redshirt freshman year.  He may not come out in the draft until 2029.

If they think Shedeur Sanders is worth the 2nd pick in the draft, more power to them and please, go for it. We should be HOPING they draft Sanders and the clown show that will come with him.

The media’s narrative with Hurts lately has been interesting to me. And people acting like him leaving the game yesterday had little to no impact on the outcome was comical. Justin Fields was trash for three years but was still protected by talking heads saying "he just needs the right situation.” Lamar comes up short in the playoffs every year but doesn’t face a lot of criticism for that. Kyler Murray puts up stinker after stinker and flies under the radar.

But for whatever reason Hurts doesn’t seem to get that same protection. Maybe it’s a negative Philly perception thing, maybe it’s because he doesn’t give much to the media and only speaks in platitudes. I don’t know, but it’s weird.

It's hard to know whether we win this game with Hurts.  The defensive collapse on the last drive was pretty epic.  I do think Hurts's impact on the run game was more apparent when he was absent.  Pickett made enough plays to win.  The drop by Smith wasn't about Hurts.  It was just a bad play by Smith.

Not really.  His impact on the running game is way more massive than most give him credit for.  It’s not a coincidence that every RB has their best season with him.  Yes the Eagles oline is good and Stoutland rocks, but it’s time people threw some of the run game love Hurts’ way.  Him not being in there allowed Washington to completely change their game plan and the oline looked a bit more human

So yeah, I have a hard time seeing the Eagles not rushing for well over 200 yards total yesterday with Hurts playing the whole game, and Washington not getting 13 possessions to overcome 5 turnovers…more like 9 or 10 tops

Yeah.  Either Hurts returns or at least Picket gets a week of reps before starting.  We won't see the offense we saw yesterday again.

The spy is one solution.  We were also hamstrung by Sweat's injury during most of the game.  This team really needs a closer rushing from the edge in the fourth quarter.

Or at least more than 2 capable of rushing. They had to be exhausted.

It really isn’t.

Thoughts after a frustrating, yet inconsequential, loss in a weird game. I hate these games where I just keep praying for the clock to go faster because you can feel it slipping away. Once Smith dropped the pass, I knew it was Atlanta 2.0. But unlike after that game, I am not very concerned after this one.

OFFENSE

- Kenny Pickett...is a backup for a reason. I think the stat that best encapsulates this game is that the Eagles defense gave Pickett and the offense the ball 4 times with turnovers (drives Pickett started), and they scored 6 whole points. The first one was a fumble recovered at the Eagles' 10 yard line, and he hit one big pass to AJ before we stalled. The second hurt -- interception at midfield with 1:44 left and we end up missing a 56 yard FG -- with Hurts, we are much more aggressive there. Fumble at our 42 turns into a FG thanks to a facemask on Washington. And the final INT that ended in a FG after the Smith drop. 3 turnovers in prime territory (our 40 or better) and we get 6 points. With Hurts, that's at least 13 points. Other than the interception (nice play by Luvu), Pickett was serviceable. He didn't lose the game, but he couldn't win it either. Like I said, he's a backup for a reason. His best play was the 4th down conversion to AJ.

- The larger issue is that he is so wildly different than Hurts, our entire running game went to hell. Without Hurts, Washington went single high, stacked the box and dares us to throw it over their heads. Pickett tried a few times (pass to AJ and a couple PIs), but without Pickett as a running threat and the box stacked, Barkley was shut down other than the 1 big run. I put this more on the coaches -- at some point, get under center, put in the FB, and just power run it. Hurts impact on our overall running game was clearly demonstrated. I spent the 2nd half wondering why we didn't try harder to trade for Fields -- someone who can run a similar offense to Hurts.

- AJ is a monster and Lattimore is his son. That is all.

- I mean, you just HAVE to catch that DeVonta.

- The line was...OK. Not their best game, but again -- everything was off once Jalen was gone. We were running stuff that had no chance against that defense and without Jalen's running threat.

- Moore really has to take a lot of blame for this -- he didn't really adjust at all once Jalen went out. I get it -- we were gashing them and were about to blow them out with Jalen. But Kenny is a wildly different QB. Not having a different package for him was just bad coaching.

DEFENSE

- Overall, I have a hard time evaluating the defense in this game. Forcing 5 turnovers should be the end of the story. But the offense couldn't convert them to points, and then apparently losing CJGJ was the key to everything unraveling...who knew.

- Before CJGJ leaves, Washington has 14 points through 2+ quarters. They had 9 drives that ended in: 2 TDs, 2 punts, 1 turnover on downs and 4 turnovers. After he leaves, they have 4 drives and score 3 TDs, with one INT mixed in. Not sure if this says more about CJGJ or McCollum, but...wow.

- The defensive line, for being so banged up, was able to get pressure but couldn't finish. Carter was a monster again (that penalty was a joke), and Davis played well despite getting hurt. Nolan Smith may be our best edge rusher. The only real issue was losing contain on Daniels, though his big 4th and 11 conversion was more about McCollum taking our LBs out the play somehow.

- Baun and Dean were all over the place again, but it did seem like the tackling was a little sloppy. I know Daniels is slippery, but still.

- Q finally got beat deep - he guess wrong. It was bound to happen at some point.

- How bad is Sydney Brown if McCollum is seeing the field over him? Or maybe Vic doesn't think Brown has gotten enough practice reps? McCollum was OK filling in for Reed a couple weeks ago, but he was an abomination yesterday. Washington attacked him mercilessly.

- Slay and Reed made the play to win the game, but the offense blew it.

SPECIAL TEAMS

- Someone needs to explain to me what the hell our plan on kickoffs was. If Mann can't reach the end zone when it's below 40, let Jake kick it. Our terrible kickoffs and coverage cost us the game as much as anything else.

ADDED NOTE

- Spare me the Jayden Daniels slobber fest today. He threw the game away in the 4th quarter with a boneheaded interception, and with Hurts we would have scored over 50 with all those takeaways (and Washington would never have gotten that many possessions). I walked away from yesterday thinking we are going to boat race this team in the Wild Card round. Washington won their Super Bowl by beating Kenny Pickett. And that Jalen Hurts is light years better than Daniels.

Hopefully Huff remembers how to rush the passer.  No excuses for him not being fresh.

It's because the media and analysts were convinced he should convert to RB or whatever and wasn't a draft worthy QB. Then you have guys like Orlovsky who slobbered all over Wentz and just irrationally hate Hurts because he took Carson's job. But in truth -- they see any struggle by Jalen as validating their draft take and triple down instead of admitting they were wrong.

There is a lot of dialog about Hurts being kind of a mid-tier QB.  There are some QB type gurus who still rate Lawrence as a better QB.  He is seen as a product of his surroundings and that the team has to have tremendous talent around him to be successful.  To some extent, there is that same narrative for Goff and Purdy.  I don't think anyone thinks Murray is an elite talent. Lamar does escape the criticism Hurts gets.  Lamar, however, has been more proficient as a passer with lesser talent at WR.

Speaking of moronic "analysts."

It is even worse given that one of the first TDs was the short drive starting in the red zone after the Kenny pick. Wash had one drive with CJGJ on the field.

Why activate the FB and then not use him when it was painfully obvious that that's what was needed for the running game to be successful?

And... this is what happens when you run your QB by design as much as the Eagles do.  It's not a question of 'IF' he gets hurt, but "WHEN" he gets hurt, and you need to have a plan in place for that eventuality.  Unless you have a backup QB in the same basic mold as the starter, then you need to have a Plan B to go to in that eventuality.  You can't expect that it will all just work out, or that the opponent will defend you the same way as they do with the starter.  The team put up 33 points... but... the first 14 were set up with Hurts at QB.   The first TD was with Hurts, the second they were in FG range already and the Washington D didn't have a chance to adjust to Pickett coming in.  Good for him being hot to start, after coming in cold.   And the last TD was a 2 play drive with back to back handoffs to Barkley.  From that point on, the offense really stagnated.  They managed only 4 FGs.  That can't happen.  Teams lose when they kick FGs that many times.  12 points in the second half wasn't nearly good enough.   They needed a TD on that possession where they went Wildcat on 3rd down.   That play made no sense.   Don't get cute.  Ram the ball at them, and you still have 4th down if you get stopped.  They needed to impose their will on that drive... AND, they were up until that 3rd down play where they went with the Wildcat.

But, this all goes back to the philosophy of using your QB as a major component of the running game.  If that's the way you build your team, then you need to commit 100% to it, and have a backup that fits that mold as well.  They didn't, and went with a completely different style QB as the backup (McKee would be just as different, if not even MORE different, as Pickett has a little movement to his game).   So, here we are... again.  Our QB is banged up... again, because they continue to use him as a major part of the running game, and don't have an appropriate plan B that they can turn to when the inevitable happens.  Shame on Howie and the coaching staff.

Anyone still rating Trevor Lawrence above Hurts is basically representing what I posted about -- guys are married to their pre draft evaluations. There's no way to look at Lawrence as anything as a bust at this point.

1st round picks, and #1 overall picks, will just get the benefit of the doubt forever because guys don't want to admit they were wrong. Mel Kiper was saying Fields would be traded for the #8 overall pick this offseason FFS.

The Daniels fellating is going to be insufferable for years. I don't know why the national media has chosen this dude as their new golden boy, but it's pure propaganda. He threw 2 picks yesterday. What in the F is Orlovsky talking about? All the media does is push propaganda these days in every sport, they're all bought and paid for. I basically don't watch or listen to any national sports related content at all anymore because of it. They will spend the entire time drooling over NY, LA, Boston teams/players or pick out their select few golden boys and have one big circle jerk over them. No objectivity. It's so so bad, the media has never been worse.
