I hope so but I mean we wanted this team to respond and get angry a lot last year and they didn’t. I want this defense to be real angry and come out with a point to prove. Can they? Absolutely yes! But I’m also not going to be hopeful about it.

I get that. This week will tell us a lot about who they are.

It will. And look every week they’ve had these questions they’ve responded well to them. After the heavy Tampa loss. After the awful Atlanta loss. After a disappointing win against Cleveland and Carolina. After the Jalen AJ stuff last week. This team has responded to adversity so hopefully they do again.

Do we honestly still feel the defense has more to prove? They've pretty much been the reason for the win streak and I feel like that's only been proven more true today. It's true they could collapse though, since anything can.

The defense was fine.  The Commanders had 13 possessions:  5 ended in a turnover, 1 on downs, 2 punts, and 5 TDs.

With a functioning QB the Eagles score 50 points and it's a laugher.  The only reason the game was competitive is because the Eagles settled for 4 FGs, and had the injuries and a random ejection.

I pray we play them in the first round just to smash them and make up for that total horse ish.  The Commanders are media frauds.

Good lord it's 7am Eastern and the D riding for Jayden Daniels is already out of control.

The dude threw a f'ing interception on what should have been their last possession.  If Devonta catches the easiest pass of his life no one is talking about what a "special talent" Daniels is.   F'ing vomit.   Can we just fast forward to the playoffs please.

He was well below "fine”. He sucked

He is what he is and that's a very very mediocre backup who, yep, sucks.  He did just fine in that role and hit Smitty right in the hands to win the game.  In a nutshell, he did his damn job overall despite the one terrible mistake.  Hopefully we don't see him again or at least not until a meaningless Giants game.

Overall, my only significant concern is Hurts' health.  The other item is the way Fangio dealt with Daniels and not using a spy which he really needed to do a lot more of.

In any case, with Hurts we win this game going away and still had it if Smitty had caught the ball.  We won't remember this one once we get to the playoffs.

I never remember an offense where they only threw it to 2 players

Three different players dropped catchable balls, Saquon, AJ, and Smitty.

I get your point though.  The thing we normally have is Hurts' running and a few passes to the TEs but the O is really Saquon running, Hurts running, and AJ/Smitty receiving.

Calcaterra missed three of four really key blocks again yesterday.  I also noticed one really nice downfield block when he pulled in front of Saquon.

@just relax  If you get time, please check out his performance in this game.  I'm good moving on from Goedert but we need a TE who can block if we are going to be a running team.  I agree he seemed to have improved some over the year but I'm not sure he sustained that yesterday.

My issue is more with Pickett you have to know he hasn’t had a week of prep and can’t run the same offense you do with hurts. They are different players and it’s not going to be effective. I don’t disagree our backup not being in the mold of jalen is an issue. He should

Then again hurts has missed weeks/games/knocked out of a game in 3 out of 4 seasons. so coaches should have some knowledge of what your backup does well and doesn’t in case Jalen misses a game or gets knocked out. I don’t think it’s hard to sit there and say we probably should run more screens with how Washington from sold out against the run and blitzed at a high rate. Thats pretty common whether we have a week or not to prepare.

You keep talking about screens.  They don't know what they are.

Still standing by Washington being the best matchup for this team in round one. I would rather face them for a third time coming off week 18 rest, a healthy Hurts, and a nasty taste in their mouth from yesterday than face Green Bay.

Could we have a situation where Foles could come out or retirement just in time to take us to the Super Bowl and win it. This team is perfect for him.

Over Pickett.... I'd take it.

Yeah.  Either Hurts returns or at least Picket gets a week of reps before starting.  We won't see the offense we saw yesterday again.

The spy is one solution.  We were also hamstrung by Sweat's injury during most of the game.  This team really needs a closer rushing from the edge in the fourth quarter.

Really?  Fine?

The Falcons, Jags, Browns, and Commanders have all driven into our redzone in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.  Is anyone confident that this defense can protect a one-score lead at the end of the game?

Not having Sweat hurt a lot IMO. But yeah, they lack a true pass rush game wrecker to stop those type of drives.

For most of the game, the Eagles were down their top 3 pass-rushers from the beginning of the season (Huff, Graham, Sweat). Sweat off the ankle injury just didn't have the explosiveness, but he tried hard.

That showed up on a lot of 3rd/4th and longs. It'll correct itself once our guys get healthy.

Yeah, we certainly missed getting consistent pressure from the edge rushers in the 2nd half.  It feels like this might end up being our achilles heal unless Huff can do something or unless Smith can take another step forward.  Losing BG was always going to be an issue at some point.

Stupid football day yesterday.   All the teams I wanted to lose, won.  The team I wanted to win, lost.

We would 100% see that offense again because that's who Pickett is, he's a terrible QB with no exceptional talent.

Yes, fine

It's the NFL, it's extremely rare to completely shut down a decent offense.  Especially with the Commanders having 13 possessions which, without looking, is probably the most any opponent has had against us this year.

The worst thing you could say yesterday is that the red zone defense sucked.

But the defense got the ball back FIVE times, and every one of them was forced, and they also had a turnover on downs.  The offense needed to score more than 13 points off five turnovers.

On top of that, the kick coverage was God awful and Washington consistently had good field position.  Their last drive started at, what, the 45?

This isn't even mentioning the injuries or asinine ejection

I agree with you. Yesterday he blew several run blocks on our counters, and his pass protection against a blitzing LB was, well, nonexistent.
