And... this is what happens when you run your QB by design as much as the Eagles do.  It's not a question of 'IF' he gets hurt, but "WHEN" he gets hurt, and you need to have a plan in place for that eventuality.  Unless you have a backup QB in the same basic mold as the starter, then you need to have a Plan B to go to in that eventuality.  You can't expect that it will all just work out, or that the opponent will defend you the same way as they do with the starter.  The team put up 33 points... but... the first 14 were set up with Hurts at QB.   The first TD was with Hurts, the second they were in FG range already and the Washington D didn't have a chance to adjust to Pickett coming in.  Good for him being hot to start, after coming in cold.   And the last TD was a 2 play drive with back to back handoffs to Barkley.  From that point on, the offense really stagnated.  They managed only 4 FGs.  That can't happen.  Teams lose when they kick FGs that many times.  12 points in the second half wasn't nearly good enough.   They needed a TD on that possession where they went Wildcat on 3rd down.   That play made no sense.   Don't get cute.  Ram the ball at them, and you still have 4th down if you get stopped.  They needed to impose their will on that drive... AND, they were up until that 3rd down play where they went with the Wildcat.

But, this all goes back to the philosophy of using your QB as a major component of the running game.  If that's the way you build your team, then you need to commit 100% to it, and have a backup that fits that mold as well.  They didn't, and went with a completely different style QB as the backup (McKee would be just as different, if not even MORE different, as Pickett has a little movement to his game).   So, here we are... again.  Our QB is banged up... again, because they continue to use him as a major part of the running game, and don't have an appropriate plan B that they can turn to when the inevitable happens.  Shame on Howie and the coaching staff.

I couldn't agree more. I like having a mobile QB as a backup regardless of the starter. Someone coming in cold, with no reps, can use his legs if need be. But with our whole offense and run game built around Jalen's skill set, having a backup QB that is wildly different basically guarantees a loss if you lose Jalen during the game.

Fields for a 5th instead of Pickett for a 3rd...I get Pickett has an extra year under contract, but we win that game with Fields yesterday because the running game doesn't get stuffed.

Speaking of moronic "analysts."

Guy threw the game away FFS.

Yeah, if Smith doesn’t drop that ball, he’s not being talked about the same way.  Don’t get me wrong… The kid is a player and deserves some flowers today, but the hyperbole on those shows has gone way too far.  Every time I hear a ridiculous, exaggerated statement, I think ‘well that one will never be bested on the Scale of Stupid’… but then they prove me wrong the next day. Heck, sometimes even the next segment.

Daniels proved himself to be resilient yesterday, but he was far from the best player in the NFL.   He had some bonehead moments, but on that final drive... he put the mistakes in the rear view and made the play at the end that his team needed.  Kudos to him, but let's not make him out to be John Elway just yet.

It is even worse given that one of the first TDs was the short drive starting in the red zone after the Kenny pick. Wash had one drive with CJGJ on the field.

Losing CGJ is a contributing factor, we also lost Sweat for a bit, JD for a bit, Slay was in and out (literally on the Oz TD). Daniels running ability (90 yards?), really did a lot to keep WAS on the field and wear down our D.

Orlovsky is particularly insufferable because he chooses favorites and glosses over all their warts. 2 weeks ago it was "no one wants to play this Rams offense!!" and since then they have scored 31 points...in 2 games. Orlovosky will fellate Stafford, Love, Cousins, Daniels and Allen no matter what they do. Before the season he rated Cousins as better than Hurts and Dak, which is just objectively ridiculous.

I mean what’s hard about it? They were a DeVonta drop away from winning the game with Pickett. A Hurts led offense puts up 50 yesterday.

Or Hurts is no different than Pickett or worse.

No really has a clue how it would have went so no reason to argue a case either way.

In the end offense put up 33 and defense played their worst game since they bye week

The offense put up 33 is not doing the work you think is doing here

I’m not the biggest Hurts guy but saying his presence is no different or even worse than Pickett is comical.

At the end of the game the Eagles got an INT up 30-28, and returned it inside the WAS 30 yard line.  A TD there ends the game, and that’s where a backup QB at the controls with limited snaps through the season plays a big role.  The offense hardly moves the ball and has to settle for 3 points, opening the door for the opponent to go win the game at home.

I think with Hurts the Eagles make a better push for a TD there, or runs the clock out on their way to the end zone.

The Eagles last 4 scores were all FGs while WAS scored nothing but TDs.  TDs will always beat FGs

Come on, you can't seriously be saying you don't know if this team wins that game with Hurts. We win easily with Hurts, if for no other reason than he would have been able to run while Pickett can't. There wouldn't have been 13 Washington possessions. It literally took a hurts injury, devonta drop, a sweat injury, a missed field goal, and a CJGJ ejection for them to win. I hope we play them in the playoffs because it will be a Fing slaughterfest

Something I've been wondering this season, and especially yesterday, why not use Barkley to do tush pushes? It's not like they're running anything off of it (IP's biggest complaint about it) so it's not like he has to learn anything other than taking a snap. Takes Hurts out of harm's way and keeps it as an option if he's out.

Can't tell me the guy can't learn how to take a snap under center, so why not give it a try?

I view dropping one of their final three as a blessing in disguise. The one seed was never a guarantee even if they won out and now all of their focus can be on Dallas next week to take week 18 as a bye instead of killing themselves to win out with no guarantee that it gets home field.

Forget about the rushing record for Saquon, start to taper him off and make sure he’s a full-go for the playoffs. Take care of business against Dallas and then hit the spa the following week. You still get two home playoff games if they win wildcard week and then you have to sack up and go into Detroit for a dog fight to get to the Super Bowl. Call it a 50/50 match and roll the dice.

This. I have some issues with Hurts seeing of the field/anticipation, but that’s me viewing him as a 200 million dollar franchise player. The gap between Hurts and Kenny picket is quite massive and obvious.

The fact is we don't know and wont know how the game wouldhave went if Hurts was in the whole game. People can speculate all they want saying "they know"

No they don't

It’s infuriating to see how well the Foreskins adjusted once Pickett was in the game.  They instantly altered their gameplan and they did it perfectly by run blitzing. Meanwhile, Kellen Moore didn’t seem to change anything on offense. No short passes, no screens, no adjustments. It was like they were just totally unprepared on offense when Hurts went out.

Maybe …  but if we traded for Fields half the city would be saying he should be the starter with every Hurts incompletion. At least this way we know Pickett sucks and is the backup .

Who do you view as a better quarterback and having more of an impact on a game: Hurts or Pickett?

Do they have a gameplan on tap for Kenny, or do they expect him to run the offense? Probably the latter, which is difficult coming off the bench.

Also, Pickett really isn’t a deep ball or outside the numbers thrower (which seems to be our emphasis this season).

Uzomah basically played FB. 30 snaps. If he lined up as a TE even once I didn’t notice it. Not as good as Van Sumeran, for sure.

Not totally sure about a specific gameplan for him, but there were still little to no adjustments made once it was painfully obvious that they were going to fully sell out to stopping the run.  Maybe incorporate some trips, more motion, set up screens or quick passes to keep them honest.

I'm not saying Pickett is better the Hurts or has more of an impact. Your hearing what you want to hear.

People are saying they know for a fact we win if Hurts was in the game is the comical part. There is no fact other then you can take a good guess and speculate but nothing is certain. Chances are better yes but we still don't know and wont know

What had me worried about the game yesterday was too many drives ending up in FGs in the 2nd half.

Don't get me wrong, I like taking the points but I kept thinking that 1 or 2 of these drives getting FGs instead of TDs might end up biting us and it did, among other things.

As did another Elliott missed FG - he needs to be better.

I said it yesterday and say it again today but  Calcaterra was beyond horrible with his blocking. It definitely shows we need a young TE moving forward..

Thankfully it is a deep class this year
